WE FINALLY TRIED DURIAN!!!!!
In this video we went to two different fruit festivals in Bangkok! We started at the fruit parade by Siam Paragon, then we continued on to the Fruit Festival by Central World Mall in Bangkok. We decided to try not only durian, but also Lychee, Rambutan, Long Kong, and Mangosteen!
Durian is known as the world's smelliest fruit! But it's also known as the King of Fruits for it's health benefits and it's unique taste.. Durian smells so strongly that you aren't allowed to take it onto the BTS or MRT subway systems!!! Durian is also banned from many buildings, including some apartment buildings! For this reason we decided to take our durian on a tuktuk ride from Central World to Lumphini Park where we could try the fruit outside.
While Durian is the King of Fruit, Mangosteen is known as the Queen of Fruits.

You should try durian "Morn-Thong" for your first time. Choose the half-ripe one which is crunchy outside but soft inside. Do not choose the overriped one like you did cause it has a very bad smell and taste. Most of Thai people do not like to eat the overriped durian except for the Malaysian or Indonesian. Hope you give it a second try and choose the right one next time. Btw don't worry about the giant lizard, they're not dangerous and never attack any humans in the park.😊
A less soft Morn-Thong durian sounds a lot better than the one we tried!!! Maybe next time... 😬🤣
Yes malaysians Do Not eat unripe durians. We let it fall ,then we eat or sell it. It can last 3 days only, after harvesting. So we use technology like deep freeze to export to china. It is better than eating rotting durians in asian supermarkets in the west which they left it outside then put it back again into store.

Eat Durian first and then follow with mangosteen. They are like yin and yang (heat and cool) to balance out the heat in the body 😊

We read a lot of comments saying the piece we tried wasn't good and was too ripe.. Should we try durian again with a better, less ripe piece? Who wants to help us pick one out?! 😇
Most of the sellers try to sell all the pieces they have even it shouldn’t be sold.
I can recommend a good one if you want. You will need to pick which one you want by yourself or you can tell the seller what you need eg. texture, taste, etc. and let them pick for you. There are lot of details to try the King of fruit !!

The best is buy whole fruit (small one, open it yourself) but it will be wasteful if you do not like it(again)...unless you do some charity and pass it to someone else to consume it. There are many varieties(durians are found in vietnam, philippines, thailand, indonesia and malaysia)..some you like some you don't. Some are sweet, some are bitter(taste like liquor). Some stronger smell than others. It is an acquired taste. Those that are opened partially or put into packaging may not taste as good as from the whole fruit. This is my opinion.
Your durion It's overrip and this kind of durion i don't like too. you must eat Mohn Thong and choose not very ripe and not very raw. Mohn Thong is the best bcause it doesn't have strong smell and have a good texture.

One of the reasons for durian being the king of fruit is that its spike looks like king's crown and it has some uniqueness the other fruits don't have.
For mangosteen, it is the queen of fruit because it has cap that looks like queen's crown.
Some thai people eat mangosteen after eating durian, why? they believe that durian has "Hot" effect and mangosteen has "Cold" effect.
Scientifically they have some nutrients and minerals that cancel each other's effects out and can prevent some symptoms from eating too much durian.
I suggest you to choose durian the right way, do not eat too ripe durian, it has bad smell and bad taste even some Thai people cannot eat it.
And durian has many breeds, the most popular breed is "Mon Thong" (หมอนทอง - literally translated to Golden Pillow"), choose the one that is not too ripe, you can tell by touching its meat, it is soft when it is ripe, so try the one that is a bit soft.
And durian being the "Hot" fruite, DO NOT eat it with alcoholic beverages as it will cause some serious illness and can be lethal in some extrene cases.
It's so crazy that durian is so complicated!!! This was definitely the best durian we tried yet. The other two were wayy too soft!! Also we wish our parents tried mangosteen!! We really like it! But we didn't see any for sale when they were here 🥺

First time I try durian when I was young. I think its smell is really good for me. I can eat every kind of durian but the most one I love is Monthong Durian and I love to eat it when its outer skin is quite hard but inside is quite soft.
It’s so funny that here kids eat durian yet it was our parents first time! 🤣 we definitely preferred the hard durian over the softer ones!
The best durian is firm to the touch and creamy inside. Monthong specie is easy to eat as it is sweet, custardy and meaty. It is the most popular one.
The soft and mushy ones smell strong and taste kind of bitter. Even most Thais don’t like the soft ones and we usually preserve them into another kind of snack.
Wish you will get a chance to try the good one (not too ripened or not too young). You will love it!!!

You've got the overripe durian! I suggest you to try another Durian call Mon tong (หมอนทอง in Thai) (English meaning is Gold pillow) and ask seller for the impulsive one. I saw all the UA-camrs love this type of Durian.

Didn’t realize until recently that Thailand and Indonesia liked their durians differently. Indonesians love ripe, soft and creamy durians like the ones in this video. We wait for the fruit to fall off the branch naturally when it has ripened. I was surprised when watching a documentary on Mon tong durian and the farmer cut the durians from the branch.

In Thailand, we call Durian is a King of fruit and also Mangosteen is a Queen because durian thorn look like a crown and another one sepal of mangosteen look like a Queen crown. Have a good trip in Thailand!

Just like other comments below said, the durian you bought was overripe and also not the best kind. The good ones are Mon Thong (หมอนทอง) or Karn Yao (ก้านยาว) and ask for the ones that is about to ripe or just ripe. They will be less stinky, taste better and better texture. the good ones will always be more expensive so dont choose the cheap ones.

I recommend. There are many types of durian. Each type smells and tastes different. You should try the freshly ripe Mon Thong durian. The durian pulp is still slightly soft and hard. Its smell is not bad and the taste is sweet, oily. If it is soft, it has a strong and very sweet smell. But those who have never eaten it will stink. If we eat too much durian, it will cause overheating in the body. We will eat mangosteen to get rid of the heat. And the vitamins in both fruits make it the king and queen of the fruit.

I love both King & Queen of fruits. Durian is just like Marmite in my opinion, hate it or love it. Btw that one was way overripe so it gets mushy and awful smells. Next time when you try out make sure to let them know not to give you overripe ones.
omg!!! That's so true! I grew up with marmite and twiglets and LOVE both! But all my friends thought twiglets were disgusting 🤣🤣 so I guess durian is the same. Although when we try it again we will definitely get a less ripe one that is harder and less smelly! ❤️

@@NataliesPassport for durian there were old grandma legend. Not all people will luv durian coz of its smell. Only the king can taste it right. That's where all the torns secured around it. As for mangosteen, the skin is thick and darker in color coz to protect the queen inside it. Hehehe..

Those durian was too mature lol😂. Best durian is type of hard outside and a bit soft inside. But the best of the best durian is durian chips, it transforms from raw durian to other universe of durian. I highly recommend u guys trying durian chips😋 ,It will completely change your mind.

I think whether you like or dislike a durian or any kind of fruit depends on whether or not you've eaten it since you were a kid. Because I'm Asian, but I don't like eating certain fruits like mangosteen. But I really like durian. because my parents like to eat So I always followed them until I liked it too. For those who are trying durian for the first time, I recommend that you go with the firm texture. The way you choose, it is too soft. The smell is very strong.

I know we have different cultures. But as a language teacher, how do you feel when your students tell you the language you teach is so difficult? Because they have to wrap their mouths, twitch their tongues, making them unable to speak properly and look bad.
I want to say that being honest with your feelings is always good, but be careful who they might like, or take pride in what we say is bad. Think of a fruit grower. And the people who sell it, how will they feel when they hear this kind of opinion?
However, it's just my opinion. I've always liked the clips you make, unlike many UA-camrs. So I want to encourage you to continue making good clips.
Aww well thank you for normally liking our videos! I knew that making a durian video would be controversial due to what you usually hear about it - especially with foreigners trying it! Before we ate it I really thought I wouldn't hate it. So I just wanted an honest video either way....and that's how we felt 🤷♀️ we really enjoyed the other fruits tho! Trying 2-3times durian you will love it , please try the "MON THONG DURIAN" and A mango with sticky rice (Mango called "Nam Dong Mai")

We liked the hard durian a LOT more than the softer ones we tried!!
My recommendation is, try the “ almost ripe”which is perfect taste, better than the ripe one that the taste is yak… trust me, I’m a Durian lover 😊😅

She is really want to try everything especially durian. So we took her to the market and get Morn thong.
We selected the one that no durian smell, the girl who sell cut and open the durian for us and we ate straightaway. She said so good, she is really like to take one home.🥰🥰🥰😋😋😋

When you first experiment with durian, you should choose the one that is not very crispy on the outside but soft on the inside, which does not have a strong smell, and you should be impressed that durian is delicious.
