@@TheHutchinsons You should, with 'Cempedak" fruit too while you in Asean countries.. Durian & Cempedak fruit can easily be found in Asean... Cempedak(in Malay, also 'Cempedak') same genus with Breadfruit(in Malay, 'Sukun') & Jackfruit(in Malay, 'Nangka')... Cempedak more sweeter than jackfruit & the flesh texture nearly similar to Durian, a bit sticky... 😊

You should have try the 101 grade after you CHILLED it in the fridge for a few hours! It will taste like a sweet, rich & thick iced cream!
Grade 101 is strongly recommended because this grade is 100% sweet! While other grade of durian may have some bittersweet or bitterness taste which might not be so appealing to many first timers.
Remember, chilled durian will taste way way better to most first timers!

Hi Bro, I want to teach you how to get rid of durian smell in your hands, or in your cars or in your fridge. To get rid of durian smell in your hands, simply take a part of the durian shell , add some drinking water onto the area where the durian pulps are holed. After removing the durian pulps to eat, simply pour some drinking water and rub on the smooth area where the pulps are and then drink the water. You will be surprised the smell of durian in your hands and your mouth will disappear. As for the durian smell in your car or fridge, (if happens you put durians in these places ) ,to remove the smell, simply leave a few "PANDAN LEAVES" which has a very fragrant smell, and this helps to kill the durian smell in your car or fridge.

Your daughters are very brave and adventurous. They failed the durian test though. Not very easy to love this fruit at first bite. Tasted durian when I was a kid and never liked it, to this day. I am a senior citizen now. I have 4 durian trees in my land in Gopeng which was purchased in 1978. Never tried eating the fruits either.

Durian… It’s a fruit whereby different ppl have different description about its taste, smell and texture, and at the end of the day, you either love it or hate it. And after some time, you may change your mind to love it or hate it after trying more. That’s the experience of durian.
There are many variety of durians, many from East Coast Peninsula Malaysia. Popular ones are Durian Kanpung, Durian XO, Durian D24, Durian Gua Musang. Btw, that’s the sequence to taste the durian variety, and depending on the durian stalls, they may recommend what other varieties to try.
Have a durian feast!! It’s gonna be a food experience!!

The only problems foreigners have with durian is the mushy texture and the stinky smell. Once you have overcome it, it can get addictive. So durian is not meant for everyone. When they grew up later in life, they will understand why Malaysian durians are the best when compared to its neighboring durians. Durians Do Not complement well with a glass brandy. Firstly, welcome to Malaysia! Hope you enjoyed the stay here.
Secondly, there's actually a method to eating durian. To start off, we would eat the sweet variants like Red Prawn first and save the bitter ones Musang King or Black Thorn last. Coz if you eat the Musang King or Black Thorn first, every durian you eat after that would be either tasteless or not as sweet.

When my foreign Western friends ask me to describe durians, I give them two extremes on flavour explanation because you either like or hate it. There's no one in-between.
So for those who like it, I tell them it is like you're tasting sweet custard with rum and vanilla that's heavily scented with brown sugar.
For my friends who dislike it, I tell them to imagine --- a night when you're smashed with lots of cheap whisky and beer, then at the end of the night, you feel like your stomach is turning; whatever that comes out from your stomach, that's the taste but sweeter.

Durians - an acquired taste - blue cheese custard .🤦‍♂️ Mangosteen & Cemoedak & Jackfruit would be more scrumptious for the kids ✅
For restaurants us locals would frequent fresh seafood 🦞 and culinary Masterchef level cooking on the island - I recommend “Penang Hai Boey Seafood” In Teluk Kumbar Bayan Lepas - fresh oysters 🦪 is a must try if available ✅👍
You missed the Butterfly farm near the cafe you stopped over. A good family stopover. If time permits - there is so much more Penang has offer - as you’ve still only scratched the surface. Must try “Ah Leng Char Kuey Teow” Jalan Dato Keramat; Go for the “Special” but be prepared to wait 30 mins to 1 hour for your plate of next level dish unlike anything on the island ✅👍😋 Take care & God Bless 🙏

Hi, sorry for the late comment. Durian actually an acquired taste. If you notice, the pungent will slowly go once you take a few bites.
After that only it will reveals its true taste. Its called King of Fruits for a reason.

good you tried durian - next time, u need to eat the flesh right off the seed - not pinch it off. or u should try a better quality durian, your experience would be better - just ask the seller if u prefer bitter, sweet, creamy, alcoholic etc. enjoy ur last experiences in penang. and hope u do come to kl
