This man is a treasure - I'm so thankful for his humble service to the arts. I just hope more people have the thrill of discovering him like I have; he deserves far more recognition.
I am an avid listener of classical and romantic music. But rarely can a player grab my soul and strengthen the grip with every perfect touch of the keys, as has mr. Sokolov.
Impossible, I would think, to play this nocturne any more beautifully-the run gossamer, the harmonic shifts both highlighted and underplayed, the amazing Chopin shifts between statements made, secrets told, tendernesses merely parenthetical but devastating, the beautiful deliberation of the departing measure. What a wonderful thing. Marc Vincenti
@@Phalces Different understanding of the melody shows different emotions. I have to say I am unable to tell which one is better. I think both of them are extremely perfect. Just my opinion.
What I love about this guy is that no note he plays is unimportant. Every note is brought to its full potential. Even within a chord, the notes he plays together are of course harmony, but the way he plays it, no note can exist without all the others written. Everything I hear him play I find just perfect.
The best possible performance of this piece. Each note is enchanted and each phrase is full of clarity and intensity without any forcing. It goes fluently and time is suspended floating into the air.
@@largolegato I wish I could, I'm not a pro and very bad at reasoning about music. I guess this interpretation is slow at times and then it speeds up a bit, so in some way it comes in waves. I've just listened to it again and I think I like it less then when I heard it for the first time but that's just me, I'm basically a man of one interpretation, as soon as I find 'mine', I tend to look down on others (sure, I don't do it on purpose it just how my brain works, I guess :)
There is something intensely personal in the playing--a man unafraid to search for how such a sublime piece of musical poetry affects him. There is no sense of show-boating, concertizing. He is alone with himself and the music, and from that unusual approach great music making comes.
I don't think most concert performers today, at least those on the way up on the ladder to international success in a highly competitive market, would dare ignore their audience, or put up with them as you do when you go to the dentist for a root canal, in the manner Grigory does. The purity of what he accomplishes in today's 'look at me' market is rare indeed, and very brave, as well. He is making music not a career.
Imafungi123 it is the desire for achievment of the musicians instead of the desire to make something beautiful. That means that there must be wonderful less popular musicians out there.
An extremely complimentary article (there are a couple good ones via Google) on Sokolov mentions that he is "obsessed with the occult." His playing -- and according to the article, his listening to music -- is so transcendent -- that I have to wonder if he incorporates some exotic spiritual beliefs into his interpretations.
A very sad nocturne but such a depth of feeling where we feel tormented soul and heart of Chopin who was probably on the eve of his final break with George Sand. Wonderful interpretation of Grigory Sokolov - Thanks for sharing -

This man somehow perceives music differently and it translates into his performances. His play is crisp, clear and toned to perfection. A profoundly poetic rendition of this most beautiful Chopin nocturne.
I don't think I have ever heard such a beautiful tone coming from a piano. Grigory Sokolov is absolutely unbelievable.
Research Henrich Neuhaus, it's unbelievable, he has a nocturne that stands out, the Opus 9 no.3.
I have a strange feeling that this man hears the music behind the music, the sounds, the notes... He grasps the soul of it...
I believe, he does. Sokolov is a very sensitive and philosofical man
It is transcendental

Everything that comes out of Maestro Sokolov's fingers is pure gold.

A perfect meshing of feeling and technique,: poignant, heartbreaking, and exquisite. Bravo Maestro!
The most poignant and heartbreaking nocturne of Fryderyk Chopin in timeless interpretation by Grigory Sokolov.
Pearls from heaven, it takes you back in time, to the orginal sound
This last tone is heartbreaker. One could write volumes about it, and wouldn't even scratch the surface. 'Cause it has nothing to do with words.
Sokolov : sublime, intemporel.

sem dúvida
G. Sokolov plays it the best
Absolutely fantastic. Never came across anything close to this interpretation
