I've been saying this for years. If you come into money, don't talk about it in front of your car! It will start making noises, the check engine light will come on, something!
Eh, everyone's been there, including me. I've missed checking the oil here and there, and checking the tire pressure as well. On another note, did I miss something? I swear the Dodge truck was white, not red. Good to hear that Mrs. Wrenching is doing well.
Oil expands when hot and will go over the safe mark if filled to the line cold ! this will cause the crank to drag. and the oil to foam up and burn off ! I always go 3/4 on the dipstick ! Also its still in the safe zone !
Kenny, thanks for reminding me! I saw your video about just checking your oil....i'm glad i did it a couple of days ago. Because of you, i have a reminder now!
I've gotten to the habit of popping the hood every time I fill up with gas. While the tank is being filled I check the oil, coolant, belts and hoses, and just give the engine a good look over. I've got a 1996 Ford Explorer 5L and a 2001 Hyundai Accent 1.6L (with 68,000 miles on it.
We have Volvos that use 2-3 qts in 3000 miles, usually they set timing codes, i top off the oil and advise to check oil more often. They never learn.......
I found that it doesn't matter if the oil is cold or hot because whenever I have added 1 litre (1 quart) of oil to the engine at the 5000 kilometre or 3000 mile mark when the oil was down to the add mark on the dipstick then the same deal at 9000 kilometres or at 5,600 miles,I had to add another litre 1000 kilometres (600 miles) before the 10,000 kilometre (6000 mile) oil change the amount of oil that came out of the engine filled up most of a 6 litre (5.7 quart or 1.6 gallon) oil bottle which I poured the old oil from the engine into. I recently repaired a valve rocker cover oil leak by replacing the grommets because it was making a bit of a mess on the bell housing near the starter motor,it wasn't a big mess but I am yet to find out if any oil was blowing back onto the road or not. They say 2 litres or 2 quarts of oil is a normal amount of oil l for a Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine to burn & Holden who fitted the engine at the factory in 2002 says that's normal. In 1999 they had to rebuild a few of them because a bad batch of pistons were fitted into them in Canada where they were built, the Teflon coating prematurely wore off any engine which burned more than 2.5 litres ( a bit over 2 quarts) within 10,000 kilometre or 6000 mile service interval qualified for the rebuild under warranty. The engine was rebuilt with 0.010" oversized pistons and rings under warranty, one person from Victoria in Australia, his burned 4 litres (1 gallon) of oil within the service interval & it certainly got the rebuild under warranty which fixed the oil burning problem. Mine has done about 400,000 kilometres (248,550 miles) but !
Not really sure about the check the oil when hot concept. I have a Pentastar engine and hot or cold the oil level is the same, but it does take about 15 minutes for all the oil to drain back into the pan after the engine is run; probably has something to do with the oil cooler on top the engine.
The only thing about the 4.7 is the coolant system...better utilize the bleed plug on the outlet elbow and let that baby bubble out the air pockets ir she will get hot. It takes a while...surprised me just how much it will slowly bubble.
In the old days, when gas stations had full service, they'd "short-stick" the customer to sell a quart of oil. If you were a pretty girl, they wash your window too! lol
Most good mechanics are too busy at work and then keeping a couple relatives cars going to even work on your own personal vehicle unless you really have to. Just an unwritten rule plus your tired!!LOL🙃
I change mine every 5K, 2008 Ody, 2011 CRV; my personal vehciles then my siser in law's 2008 Fusion, my brother's 2012 Civic and mother's 2015 CRV. Never had any engine problems and all of the vehicles execpt the 2015 are 150,000+ miles.
I'd forget my head if it wasn't screwed on. Hello Mr Kenny hope y'all have a wonderful day and tell Mrs Kenny I said hello and hope she's doing well ❤🎉😂😅
Good to hear Meg is doing better.
so glad Meg is doing better
Don't say, "It's a good motor" - when the car can hear you! You'll jinx it all up.
Right. A buddy and I were talking about a scanner subscription renewal. Within 48 hours, both of our trucks had check engine lights come on.
I've been saying this for years. If you come into money, don't talk about it in front of your car! It will start making noises, the check engine light will come on, something!
I have a 2004 Toyota Tundra with a 4.7 in it I bought new. 130,000 plus mile on it. Changed oil every 3,000 miles. No leaks and never use oil.
Eh, everyone's been there, including me. I've missed checking the oil here and there, and checking the tire pressure as well. On another note, did I miss something? I swear the Dodge truck was white, not red. Good to hear that Mrs. Wrenching is doing well.
My wife's Nissan Rogue will go from oil change to oil change and not lose a bit. My Chevy truck is another story.
The Chevy must have DOD lol
Mid 90s Chevy Trailblazer was the first GM that I experienced the 1qt/1k mi. oil is ok excuse... never bought another GM after that.
Glad Mrs. Wrenching is on the mend.
Check the oil in the minivan too!!
Good to hear the Mrs is doing better

Nice ride! I'm glad everything is going good
1995 ford f150 5.8 motor 223k miles. Dont burn a drop between changes. I change every 5k miles.
We have Volvos that use 2-3 qts in 3000 miles, usually they set timing codes, i top off the oil and advise to check oil more often.
They never learn.......
Yeah, I don't check tire pressures as often as I should.. And I damn well know better!

That's really good especially being a Dodge and having that many miles. My 09 Silverado uses more oil than that after less than 1,000 miles.
Never heard about checking the oil when motor is warm.. didn’t know there was a difference.
Heat expands, so you get an accurate reading on your dip stick.
Not all cars are the same. Check your owners manual for the correct procedure. Otherwise, you can over or under fill the motor and have issues.
2013 Honda Fit 264K miles now 10K oil changes Never have to add oil between changes Great little car

Ya know Kenny,
Sometimes life gets in the way of all of us.
Well of you haven't had time to check oil. How do you think you have time to detail the interior.
The only thing about the 4.7 is the coolant system...better utilize the bleed plug on the outlet elbow and let that baby bubble out the air pockets ir she will get hot. It takes a while...surprised me just how much it will slowly bubble.
The most difficult to check oil on; 2020 Ford F-150.
Just curious, what's your reason for wanting to check the oil when the motor is hot?
Kenny you are forgiven the oil check as yours and megs health are more important than an oil check. Keep wrenching
I like checking mine cold no false readings when warm get false reading because oil goes up the dipstick tube
It’s a Dodge better check the oil every day.😮Nothing like the oil topic to bring the “X-Sperts” out of the woodwork.
Hi thanks for the great videos.
How long did you run tyranny fluid in to clean up motor ?
4.7 eng need oil changed every 3000 miles the oil pump pickup has a 3/4 in. oil hole it stops up easy.
I saw somewhere the new ram trucks you cant check the oil there is no dip stick it has a liw oil sensor.
I don't open the hood to check MY oil...
😏
Hey thanks looking forward to the videos
WE love you Ken even with your problems love you Brother.
In the old days, when gas stations had full service, they'd "short-stick" the customer to sell a quart of oil. If you were a pretty girl, they wash your window too! lol
Wow I remember doing that all the time 😂 alot of years ago like 74 I believe 😊
I never short sticked anyone and everyone got their windshield washed.
Dave again don't be concerned.
Why does my silverado use so much oil, its normal i hear but is it truly? Is it fine?
Most good mechanics are too busy at work and then keeping a couple relatives cars going to even work on your own personal vehicle unless you really have to. Just an unwritten rule plus your tired!!LOL🙃
at least your smart enough to change your oil in the 3000 range, screw that 5000+ range crap, no thanks oil aint that expensive
Nothing at all with checking your oil when cold! (ASE me said so!) wtf?
You really don't have to say shame on me as we know what you are going through for yourself and Meg. Yor oil level is being blessed by prayer.
I hope so
Ls in the camaro?
Praying for you and your fam family
@BennyRicker-qh2ur Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate you. Keep wrenching! Kenny
Mechanics make the worst car owners. I know. I are one.
Nice
Good news
😎👍😎
I'd forget my head if it wasn't screwed on. Hello Mr Kenny hope y'all have a wonderful day and tell Mrs Kenny I said hello and hope she's doing well ❤🎉😂😅
