Sheesh! Kev is becoming the ultimate martial arts warrior learning from Jesse, Seth, and Prof. Nic, and learnin how to use it in "da streetz" with Icy Mike!
Very interesting, thanks for sharing this Kevin. I also watched Sensei Seth's "I Tried Savate (french shoe fighting)" just some minutes before. And I do remember the vid from Jesse Enkamp about the influence of Savate in Karate. You guys rock! for sure this includes Professor Nicolas Saignac! Thank you for these insights!
According to a Jesse's video, okinawan karate high kicks were strongly influenced by french sailors arriving to the Island in early 1900's when they demonstrated Savate to natives martial artists
Bill "Superfoot" Wallace talked about using the sidekick to control distance and to make the targeting decision based on how the opponent reacts when you life the knee. (Hope I'm paraphrasing that right.) Jesse did a great interview with him. Jesse's bounce counter sidekick sort of reminds me of the way some people use the oblique kick in Wing Chun to intercept and break the posture at the knee.
Wow nice video. It’s a shame arts like Savate and Sanda don’t get that much love? I always admire them. Jesse’s low chamber kicks are fluid and strong👍🏾. Very similar to TWC chamber kicks, up rooting or breaking the foundation with chamber kicking is very effective when performed properly. Details in some of the Wooden dummy sets.
Great video Kevin 🙂. After watching yours and Seth's videos I definitely want to take a Savate class in person. Also thanks for the link I'll check it Professor Nicolas ☺️
Savate kicks with the foot, if kicking the head it’s ok, but if you are kicking the leg or body, it is stronger to flex the foot and aim with the shin.
you should do videos about kyokushin tricky kicks brazilian kick interrogation point kick, andy hug kakato and tornado kick and mawashi kaiten do gueri but great video
14 seconds in and sensie seth already said hi mom and then wiped his nose and put the booger on his shorts! Love it! Haha Honestly though great video kevin. Love the content!
As a JKdmD guy, the sport karate side kick is most like a JKD one. I like the karate one and the savate in. I admit Ive done Some little Savate training over the years especially with the chase. But I do think Inprefer it iver the Karate because uts more fluid. The Karate one is a great self defense tool though. Really like it
You WARRIOR'S are bringing all the arts back into "ONE ART". The same kicks Jessie Sensei was doing, are also done in Wing Chun. They are called Chi Gerk(Leg Sensitivity), similar to chi sau(Arm/Hand Sensitivity).
The difference between European kickboxing art and karate is the purpose of their application. The initial savate was a brutal boxing incl kicking technique, wich is an art of fencing without a weapon. The purpose of karate was self defense, avoiding a long contact with an opponent (ikken hissatsu - 1 blow, 1 kill). After karate was implemented in Japan, there was a lack of this long contact, which was not spectacular for the audience. And we have today an art of fencing where karate techniques are being used. These techniques have a light contact with the ground and use a long distance for initial fighting (the old ones used a full contact with the ground and a close combat range). So the pure karate is different from so called sports karate. And people should understand the real purpose of each martial art and not blame its techniques, what “will work on the street and what won’t”, because street fights are exaggerated in ppl minds (I can say it as a street fighter in the 90’s, based on traditional Shotokan karate and boxing) and there will work that technique, wich you can perfectly do. Yeah, and you should strike first, when you only feel, that the opponent wants to attack you.
Hold up--is Kevin Taiwanese-American? I thought he was from HK for some reason!! Man, there are not many of us out there. I can't believe there is another Taiwanese-American youtuber! Kevin is the second that I know of, the other guy has a tech/history channel.
Karate kicks come from Northen white crane, not Savate. Similar kicks but, not from each other. Same thing how Capoeria has some similar kicks, but isn't from either.
"Using your enemies weight to add to your kick" I call this "antlering" use your limb like a high speed antler to meet the charge. Or using your elbows like "bull horns" and add your body hop momentum or enemies momentum to your bulls horn elbow.
Nic has such great knowledge. I don't think that Kevin or Seth understood (at least in this video) how much Nic has to offer. They are not anywhere near his level of expertise. This was the yellow belt version of what he has to offer. Or in Savate, the Blue Glove ranking. It is a beginner level. Niolas Saignac is an expert and a full contact champion in Savate. He is extremely skilled in Savate and kickboxing. Please look him up and train with him at any opportunity.
@@KevinLeeVlog There is a english sport called Shin Kicking,or Purring, you may find interesting,at least in concept. People have wondered how Buakaw would fare such context.
with how much jesse talks historical technique and high concept martial arts, it's easy to forget that he's the real deal, when he applies it so smoothly it's always a bit shocking
Karate originally means Chinese hands the meaning has changed for obvious reasons, Karate Father It's Shaolin Kung Fu so Karate kicks come from Shaolin not Savate.
That is actually not confirmed. While Karate did take a lot of it's weapon and hand techniques from Chinese martial arts (not just Shaoling Kung Fu but some other Chinese styles as well) the high kicks (specifically the high ones) seem to come from Savate, Jesse has done a video about it. Plus the Southern Kung Fu styles didn't have high kicks either Now then, to my knowledge, Karate did have some low kicks before taking stuff from Savate, those may as well come from China. Just like the Souther Kung Fu styles. Karate was mostly about weapon fighting and close quarters combat, not a lot of high kicking in that, right? Okinawan Karate did some times use high kicks. Those probably were from China, but they weren't being taught in Japan (to my knowledge)
Thank you for your excellent content. It seems that 3 types of side kicks exist. Another version is the one of Jeet Kun Do ua-cam.com/video/Ok3sF-qd8Gg/v-deo.html

Just a friendly reminder that Jesse Enkamp has ZERO evidence to back up "Karate took kicks from Savate" claim. High kicks in Karate most likely developed at the university karate clubs since they were really into sparring.
