Theon might see it that way, but he was not given away by his father. He was taken as a hostage to keep his father from rebelling again. It was not by choice.
Theon is a typical self-made victim with entitlement complex. He thinks he was given away when he was taken by force then he thinks he is rejected when his father rightly says he was not educated as one of them. He wants to be given everything without earning it or even acquiring the ability to use it. He has never commanded a ship but wants a whole fleet of them.
@@Leo_ofRedKeep All that is still no good reason for his father to be so openly hostile towards his son who finally got home from spending most of his life as a hostage. Also, Theon's plan of allying with the Starks so they could both become independent kingdoms was ultimately a good one, and better than Balon's plan of attacking the North which completely fell apart once the North was able to put up a coordinated resistance. It was only Balon's stupid pride and dream of going back to the Ironmen's old pirate ways that stood in the way of Theon's plan.
How can tree ppl read this scene this wrong. Theon wants to help Starks, and his father rejects this with argument, that they are iron born they TAKE what they want. And Theon's logical response is, that last time they tried to ''take what is theirs'' ,Stark's took Theon. Theon is sayin '' Yea take what is your , because it worked so well for you last time, right? Did you took than what was yours?. And his father knows Theon is right , that's why he punches him and abandons the argument. The whole point of this scene is that Theon's father is mad at Theon, as is it was his fault Starks took him, but it was his fathers fault. And he is doing same mistake again. I mean come on.
