Oh man thanks for telling me about this well known popular Ridge Racer bad GTA clone game in Japan that I forgotten that I've forgotten 3 years ago! We Japanese like to keep our stuff under the radar because we fear this video essay will happen but alas you discovered this game. :)
never heard about this game until watching a longplay and this video etc. would love to try this game if anyone made a fan translation mod for this game (if PCSX2 can fix the epileptic cutscenes if played on the emulator). Critical Velocity is surely a Namco's hidden gem and this should have more attention to any other content creators.
Never even heard of this game before, but I love the ambition of the Ridgd Racer team just throwing every "car-thing" the can think of in here. Car-chases! Taxi-driving! Crime and racing drama with flashy anime-character designs! Races! Driving along very bizarre winding stages like it's Mario Kart! It feels like they tried, even if it doesn't stick the landing, and I want to be very generous with it because it does so much, from an era when a game like this COULD be an "in-between" game... even if I probably also would just rate it 6/10 if I was a contemporary reviewer. Alas, what hindsight does to us.
Loved the PS2 era when teams could make in-between games.
Some of them turned out to be gems.
And racing around movie sets, guided by giant green holographic chevrons? Stuntman!!!

I didn't know about this game but ridge racer is soooo good. I don't even like driving games that much but ridge racer type 4 is love ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

If I had this game, I’d put on my Offspring CDs and go crazy on the taxi missions.
