    Another scenario for the Eagle 2. F-35 strike aircraft go in 50 miles ahead of the Eagles to detect and intercept fighters sent out to knock down the more detectable Eagles, and/or knock out warning and tracking radars (SEAD). Eagle 2 weapon load of 12 ALRAAM (or AMRAAM-EX) while escorting B-1B, B-2 and B-52 bombers (the latter launching from well out of defensive missile range, or acting as diversion while showing up on EW radar much sooner than the B-1 and B2) equipped with hypersonic, cruise, and extended range anti-radiation missiles; the Eagles protecting against enemy aircraft attempting to down the bombers and AWACs with their own long-range AA missiles, if they get past the F35s AMRAAMs and the Eagle's directed ALRAAMs. F-16 SEAD and strike aircraft can then come in afterward to clean up once air dominance is assured. A very potent combination!

    Hi Tog! Great Vid! FYI- Myself and wife both worked at Hughes Aircraft Company- who designed and built the avionics and weapon systems for the F14, F15, F16, F/A18, F18, B1 & B2 programs... as well as the "blackbird" aircraft as well (A1, SR71, FY12). My dad was the original engineer (and later one of the program managers) who designed the wings and control surfaces for the AIM 54A & C (Phoenix) Missiles. The Phoenix was originally based off the AIM 47 (Falcon) which had a 100-mile range, the AIM 54a was originally designed for our 1st supersonic high-altitude interceptor (flying at 80k feet at Mach 3+) and was initially flight tested in 1961, with an airborne speed of Mach 5+. By 1968, the avionics system (missile) was converted to high-speed digital electronics and as seen on the F14, was equipped with Fire & Forget, Quiet Radar, Reply or Die, Look-Down/Shoot Down and CMAS capabilities. In the mid 1980's HAC developed the AMRAAM and was airborne (flight tested) in the mid 80's. As wonderfully reference in your vid, was in essence, the next gen Phoenix but designed to be launched from internal bays with the next gen Tech!.... The mount system was the same system developed in 1960! Due to space constraints, the original AMRAAM had a "reach" limitation of 100 miles but as rocket engine and fuel tech developed, the long-range version was born- 200 miles matching that of the Phoenix.

    • @cadennorris960
      @cadennorris960 Рік тому +1

      @skubisan To counter Chinese long range stealth fighters? The J20 is not as stealth as the F35 or F22. The F22 is smaller and carries significantly less internal fuel but still has pretty comparable range with or without external drop tanks. The F22 has more space for missiles given it carry’s 8 internally compared to 6 by the J20. That extra internal weapons bay space only takes away from internal fuel capacity.

    • @GonzoTehGreat
      @GonzoTehGreat Рік тому

      NGAD looks to be several different aircraft, including both manned and unmanned, working in tandem. This would be one way to deliver more ordnance or engage more targets as "loyal wingman" UCAVs could carry missiles/bombs for manned aircraft to launch.
      However, due to being relatively expensive, it probably won't be produced in large numbers and also won't enter service until the 2030s, so both the Eagle 2 and Raptor will continue to have an important role to play until then and for sometime afterwards.
      The Eagle 2 is also replacing the current F-15C/D, so even if/when it stops being used offensively, it will still be used by the ANG for homeland air defence.

    • @cadennorris960
      @cadennorris960 Рік тому +2

      @skubisan I was speaking relatively when I said the range is comparable. The J20 carry’s significantly more fuel and is larger than the F22. The AIM-260 will also be operational soon and out range the AIM-120 significantly as well(you nor I know the exact range and speculation is useless so you can’t say wether the PL whatever or AIM-260 will be better). The F22 can carry more missiles at the expense of range. The J20 doesn’t have that unless they’re willing to give up stealth characteristics on an already less capable stealth aircraft. It is a long range but I think the worst case scenario will be increased numbers of sorties to make up for less time on station. You know the F35 exists right? If the US can overwhelm the lackluster Chinese air defense with tons of subsonic cruise missiles then Chinese anti ship missiles won’t pose a threat thus carriers could operate as close as they need. That is just speculation about something very nuanced though.

Anti ship missiles destroyed equals no anti ship missiles to threaten the carrier. Obviously that is easier said than done but that applies to anything we speculate about on here.

      @rpeltier2621 Рік тому

      @@pyronuke4768 Several points: 1) EX stands for Extended (as in Range, etc…), and eXperimental; though usually these are prefixes, not suffixes. Once the aircraft is officially redesigned, the EX should go away as it will no longer be experimental. 2) Super Hornet designation belongs to the US Navy, not US Air Force, and USN designates they see fit, especially with the word Super as the USN always considered itself Super(ior) to the other services (tongue in cheek humor). 3) There is already an F15-E model. The new model is a completely upgraded aircraft with new internal frame, electronics, flight systems, fuel capacity and much more. Only the outward appearance resembles the original F15 aircraft, thus I can understand giving it an Eagle II designation, though I would have preferred something more akin to the F16 Viper or F15 Strike Eagle, such as Golden Eagle or Harpy as I mentioned in a separate reply.

    12 missiles is hardly a missile truck but if the US is serious about the missile truck concept they need to really develop a stealth bomber that can carry a massive amount of long range missiles.
    At the end of the day, if you’re air dominance strategy is about BVR and not dogfighting then you need the equipment for long range engagements which usually boils down to the size of the platform and then it needs to be hidden it at least obscured from radar so enemy fighters can’t take it out and then it needs capacity.
    In BVR whoever can fire first and then continue to fire usually wins.
    This is why the Eagle 2 carries 12 AIM-120s.
    That capacity means that it can keep multiple enemies defensive and if missiles are fired back and forth it will outlast anything.
    Probably, they are using it for a limited missile truck role because that long range means they have first look, first kill capabilities and with the F-35 you can quite possibly hand control of those missiles over to it until they can get in close enough to activate their own radar.
    The next step is to put AESA radar aboard the missiles like the Japanese do which means they can activate much quicker and are more sticky meaning harder to defeat

I know they're just rumours, but with the recent advancements in weapons systems such as laser systems and new hypersonic missiles along with new sensors and radar equipment, paired with global tensions with many advisory countries... I see it as a very serious possibility that is appearing on the horizon.

Not even many needed (maybe 1 per 4 Eagle 2's), they could fulfill the TWS guidance of the Eagle 2's missiles and leave the 35's to do their own thing and act as a backup to the 22's should they have to break.

    I think the reverse makes more sense. Instead of just a missile truck, the more advanced fighters plow ahead and take out targets that can be a threat to the f-15 flight. This would break apart the networked defenses allowing the f-15 into the area to bomb and send long-range air-to-air missiles deeper into enemy territory. Being a twin seat makes the Eagle prime for loyal wingman and drone control as well. Imagine not even needing an f-35. The f-15 gets linked to a couple of LO drones that fly ahead, and ID targets await orders from the f-15 WIZO to execute. I would really like to see an f-15 with the next-generation jamming pods. With those, they'd be able to keep the enemy from locking on long enough to prosecute the target, just like the EA-18 growler but with way more range, speed, and payload.

      Unfortunately, Canada doesn't have a good record in deciding on the advanced technologies they need. Canada is a NATO country and as such needs to be prepared to send its forces that are not only NATO compatible but comparable to NATO technology.
      Not too long ago, Canada was considering "upgrading" its fighters with used older models F-18's from Australia and eliminated the F-35 from as an option. Later Canada eventually decided for a competition between the F-35 and the Swedish Gripen. I think after Finland decided to buy the F-35, Canada was leaning toward the F-35. Canada doesn't have a large defense budget nor does it have sufficient cargo aircraft, refueler, and shipping to move major forces to Europe.
      In other words, Canada has lulled itself into thinking that it a self-defense force for Canada which doesn't really have any major threats or does it believe it will commit major Canadian forces to a major war. Instead, Canada needs to have a military that can provide significant capability to NATO in the shortest time possible.
      Currently, the RCAF only has 80 CF-18 Hornets and 18 F/A 18 Hornets and 5 C-117's and 5 aerial tankers.
      As a NATO member, Canada is obligated to spend a minimum of 2% of GDP on defense. However, Canada only spends 1.39% of GDP which is less than Greece, the US, ?Croatia, UK, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, Romania, and France to name a few. Not only that by Canada has included spending in Veterans Affairs, Public Works, and the Treasury Board in calculating its NATO defense spending obligations which is still only 1.39% of its 2% real obligation. So what contribution to defense does VA, Public Works, and the Treasury Board have to NATO defense obligations?
      When I search for "Canadian Armed Forces" I get returns on compassion, inclusivity, humanitarian missions, Habitant for Humanity, and other woke ads. The primary mission of any country's military is to overwhelm and defeat its enemies as quickly as possible to break their will to fight.
      Canada sometimes participates in the US RIMPAC exercise in Hawaii, but I don't see any Canadian ships participating in Freedom of Seas patrols with the US, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, UK, Germany, France, India, and the Philippines in the western Pacific. Why? Because Canada only operates 12 frigates, 4 submarines, 2 Arctic patrol ships, 12 costal-defense vessels, and 8 unarmed patrol/training vessels. Wow! that has everyone shaking in their boots.
      Look, I get it. Canada is not the US. But Canada should be shamed and embarrassed that Latvia spends more of it's GDP for NATO defense than Canada.
      I served 21 years in the US Marine Corps as an infantry officer with 3 years in combat. I trained with very small Canadian units on exercises. They were OK but in my opinion would not bring much to the fight. Canada sends a couple of F-18's to exercises in Europe, but they contribute almost nothing against a tier one enemy.
      I've also trained with the UK Marines and the Australians. These are first class fighters.
      The unfortunate fact is that Canada's military is pretty much a joke except for certain specialized units who are very good.
      Not sure when Canada is going to wake up to understand that we are in very dangerous environment and get serious about a professional military that can provide significant capability to the fight. Or maybe like Trudeau Canada has just gone 100% woke and gives a rat's flying potato about its obligations to NATO and helping to secure the western Pacific.
      I used to live in Canada. Great people, beautiful country, but a bat shit woke California-like government that is destroying your country as California is destroying itself and my country.

Also stealth matters when you are launching from afar aka locking with the plane radar. Well, 101 miles, but that was probably fired from high altitude supersonic to low altitude, against a non-maneuvering target drone.
    I suspect the EX will really hit it's stride with the AIM-260. The radar on the F-15 would have no problem targeting without a forward spotter with AIM-120's. AIM-260's though...
    It also can do deep strike. Obviously it's vulnerable to good air defense, but the sheer range forces the adversary to spread their air defense out over a much larger area. So even without actually 'doing' the deep strike, just the capability can force a foe to spread their AD out with much lower density.
    Also, in ground attack, it's (post SEAD) price per pound of ordinance + mile of range, is unparalleled unless you reach for something like a B-52.
    Oh and it can carry a heck of a lot more AIM-120's than 12. But 12 is a decent number to fly a sortie with if you're balancing against extreme range & loiter.
    No matter what the AF tries to name it, I'm sure it will be known as the F-1sex, kinda like the Bone.

    It would be One Hell of an Aircraft and Very Suitable as an ICBM Look Down, Shoot Down Interceptor flying at SR71 type Altitude, Maybe even Higher with Pressurised Cockpit Area Though, As a Tactical Fighter size would not be a Concern if the Concept Aircraft in it's Current Form is anything to Go By.
    The Potential is Absolutely Positive and in Retrospect Entirely Possible in the not to Distant Future.
    Also the Lockheed Martin F22N Naval Swing Wing Version of the Raptor is it was an Interesting Concept as well.
    Single Seat, Thrust Vectoring and all the Technicality that we now know if built in again it's not meant to be Stealthy in it's Format compared to the Land Based F22 Raptor.
    The Swing Wing definitely makes her a Bigger Aircraft but Capability Wise I would be inclined to say Very Much an Aircraft Not To Be Messed With.
    Her Stand Off Long Range Missiles would be Advantageous and Those for close in Air to Air Superiority Quite capable as well as Retractable Multi Barrel Canon with even Possibly Two under Structural Area of Main Fuselage Frame to Swing Wing Access Internal Pivotal area would be a Killer if it were Possible.
    The B21 Raider offers Much just like the B2 Spirit, I hope Their Right about this Bomber but we will get to see her Performance at Various Air Show's Etc.
    In terms of That said about the Darkstar ICBM Interceptor concept, In tune with Modernised Patriot Missile Batteries would Present a Deterrent in many ways but also what if that Surrounding EMP (Electo Magnetic Pulse) War Head ICBM's as a Choice of Weapon to that of all out Nuclear Warheads.
