I won't even wear a wrap around neck tie. The last thing around my neck was a set of dog tags. (wore them for 20 years). Good video sir. I enjoy them all. Thank you.

When using a dangler, it's more secure to still attach it directly to your belt instead of the belt loop. Eventually a belt loop will fail dropping and potentially losing your knife. If your dangler clip is not large enough to clip directly onto your belt, you can make a loop around your belt out of leather or cordage and still have it be much more secure than clipping just to a pants belt loop.

I just stumbled upon your channel today, Blackie, and I have to say, your channel is quickly becoming one of my favourites.
Excellent points concerning carry. I knew about the "triangle of death," but did not apply that to sheathed knives. Also, you point about knives carried behind the hip line in case of a fall is very poignant. I am am older guy, I walk with a cane now, and I've taken a few tumbles. I was always so sure footed in my youth, its frustrating. Great info, great advice, great channel.

Great presentation. Every knife that I own, folders or fixed blades have sheaths. I get bidirectional sheaths of the folders. This allows a knife to be carried vertically or horizontally. My preferred carry position outside a pocket carry is horizontal and behind the back.
If you spend any time sitting in a car, falling down, rolling on a side, crawling on a belly, carrying a pistol in a holster strong side carry, you will understand.
If you insist on carrying a fixed blade (and I have a few of the Old Hickory in Ka-bar sheaths) for defense, look at the Spec-Ops product line - different sizes, different carry capabilities and the plastic insert can be softened and molded to your fixed blade knofe.

Yup, even folder. My edc is small enough to get lost in the grass, but i got a little cloth pouch which makes it unlikely to fall out and keeps the dirt out and much easier to find.

I learned about hard stuff on your belt hitting a hipbone the hard way. I was 12 I had a belt that I loved that had a big star on. It sat right on top of my hip bone. Playing football with some local kids when I tackled the boy with the ball I fell on it. Didn’t break anything. Thank God

I know this is an old video. I have found that I like the cross draw left side carry best for me. I carry it paralell to my belt, this allows it to be quickly acessable and not obtrusive at all. Also, if I were to injure my right arm, I can still get to it in a hurry with my left hand. Being paralell to the belt, allows it to not dig into my leg or the truck seat when seated. I also carry a side arm on my right side so it makes it difficult to right side carry a knife. Large knives are never on my belt.

Any tool would do damage to a bone if it happens to be between the ground and a bone when you fall and the weight of a grown man plus some momentum is pressing down. And if it happens in the wild then...leisure turns into survival and pain.

Say Heah Blackie, I do solo scout's, sometimes at a good clip. I like a Oiggyback but I Baldric Carry. Sometimes when I'm twisting through brambles, I hold on to a knife in my Piggyback, It's ni different then using a kitchen knife, I never cut myself and they dint have handguards. I believe I'm a little older than you and I've been doing this for a few 24's. I like to cross draw closer to my front. I usually have sine kind of coat on me to protect my skin from getting tore up, and I usually have the knife inside even my neck knives, and yeah,, I took a few spill's,, Never has NY knife ever got into a fronthal possition that I should fall on the tip. I'm not disagreeyibg with what your saying. Safety is Paramount .,,.

  • @Ninjamohawk

Interestingly that French trade pattern knife looks a lot like the snow blade my grandpa used to carry when he winter stalked but his had a hook near the point. No idea why. I just think it's interesting since you're in the woods of Alabama and he stalk hunted in our Minnesota wilds back in the 1970's

This old thread needs revisiting: my genuine Nepalese kukuri came with a carved wooden sheath that I want to replace; I want to use it, not just admire it- but its only *marginally a carry knife, and I’ve only ever packed it.
It probably would fall into your “sash” knife category- unless it was carried *inside a pack- or I’d maybe carry it on a sling(?). It’s shape requires either a *metal tip guard to guide it into place or a snap-over sheath that’s open at the throat.
I can fabricate in leather and metal, and cast in resins or thermoplastics; please advise your thoughts.

I am finding your videos to be quite helpful, however there are some questions I do have (none of them bad, just mainly asking because I'm more of a cowboy type guy who wants to do stuff like the cowboys did in the old west), they are, what would you recommend for someone to stay cool in the summer with when they have to work with horses (obviously the horses aren't in a air conditioned barn)? And another question is, I have an old butcher knife that looks like an old hickory, a Western brand fixed blade and pocket knife I got from Walmart, a knife that I made an antler handle for (the blade i ordered from ebay), and then a cheaper tanto blade from ebay, my friend has told me about Mora knives, but as I stated before, i like more of the cowboy /John Wayne type of stuff, but am wondering what would you recommend?

    • @blackoracle69
      @blackoracle69  7 років тому

the butcher is rock solid in the history dept..it was the knife of choice for processing game and live stock..thus the name butcher....the bowie had a huge following in the old west but i do not recommend it today..the mora is great in a craft /camp chores /woodscraft tasks as long as you respect the thin blade and use it as a knife and not a fro or pry bar...as to keeping cool with horses..i have very limited exp in the field....but i would recomend cotton to wear for a shirt.. blue jean pants since once damp they cool you faster than just about anything else..and give the horses as much water and shade as you can..they are tough animals and can often endure temps and situations where the rider falls before they do...thanks for the comment..safe journeys
