He's not called SHAKIN' Stevens for nothing - his songs are guaranteed to get your hips moving. He was Britain's answer to Elvis Presley 😝real name Michael Barrett, he was already 37 in this video! Check out "This Ole House" where he puts his hips swaying groove on to the old Rosemary Clooney song 😎

Shakin' Stevens was huge throughout the 1980s in the UK, in fact he was the best selling male singles artist during that decade. Not only was he big in the UK, but Europe and other territories in the world too, except the US. Check out his other Christmas hits as well, such as "The Best Christmas Of Them All" (that video gives you an impression of what kind of entertainer he was).

Think this is now a classic after disliking it back in the 80s. Freya Ridings sings a completely different sounding version which is worth checking out. She sang is at the Princess of Wales Carol Service the other week at Westminster Abbey, London.

Back in the early 80s; when MTV first started, Shankin' Stevens came out during the new surge of Rockabilly acts, like the Stray Cats. 'This Old House' and 'You Drive Me Crazy' were all played but became forgot over time. I actually have these songs in my library of music

I think Shankin' Stevens was the prison yard tribute act 😆

You should delve into his catalogue of songs - you drive me crazy, green door, this old house, give me your heart tonight, oh Julie, also a largely forgotten one, which is a rockin good way with Bonnie Tyler.

Hi Michael! This was fun. I’d never heard of Shakin’ Stevens or this song. I just looked him up and saw that he’s Welsh and apparently was huge in the UK in the ‘80s.
I think I’ve already recommended these but in case you missed it I’ll repeat the suggestions:
From The Partridge Family’s Christmas album: “Blue Christmas”- I think David Cassidy sings it better than anyone else I’ve heard. He sounds like he actually means what he’s saying. Also, “My Christmas Card to You”. It was an original for the album. I don’t know if it ever was played on radio and I don’t think anyone else covered it but I always loved it. It’s got an upbeat sound and a feel good message.
The Monkees did a traditional Spanish song , “Riu Chiu”, a cappella. There’s a Christmas tree behind them, which is why I know it’s a Christmas song. It’s a beautiful song.
Andy Williams’ “Happy Holiday/The Holiday Season”. This takes me back to my childhood. During the Christmas season my parents would play a lot of great albums from artists such as Perry Como, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Julie Andrews, and of course Nat King Cole (“The Christmas Song”). There were others too but I can’t remember them all.

I love all the Christmas choices, Michael, especially those more obscure. I discovered Shaken Stevens just a few years ago while on my own search for unusual or lesser known carols. I'm with you 100% on the fun, joy, and merriment of Christmas songs! I have another suggestion: Annie Lennox of the Eurthymics singing "The Holly and The Ivy". It is a very old traditional English holiday hymn and she sings it so beautifully. You can find the studio recording from her Christmas album some 10+ years ago, but better is the live version just under 3minutes, which is here on UA-cam.

I’m from the UK and remember this when it came out, sorry I just thought it too cheesy for my liking then and now, well without the video it’s okay. To be honest I never was a fan of Shakin Stevens anyway 😂. I preferred the Xmas hit Jona Lewis - Stop the Cavalry
