- In this video our Anthony Pecora sits down with TWO P Basses to see which one rules all (not really, they both are great and have their merits). We take a 1966 (2024) and an Empire '58 to compare their similarities, differences, and the nuances that provide ere-specific details. Call Anthony directly at 412-343-5299 with any questions about these or ANY Fender Custom Shop basses.

Nice basses.BTW, CBS ended hand winding pickups in 1965 and started machine winding straight away- along with implementing many other cost-cutting measures unfortunately.
Both sound great. The 58 is a bit brighter. Between these two, I'd choose the 66. 👍🏻😎
Got to go with the black and gold
I have a 2013 Custom Shop 59 P and a Custom Shop LTD P-Special I bought from you guys about a month ago. The P-Special has the same 65-70 pickup as the 1966 in the video. I find the 59 has a very clear, articulate tone. While the 65-70 has a thicker, meatier tone.
Both are beauties! Are the necks the same width/profile as the American Original 50"s P? Just curious...
I would be happy with either one 😝
'58 😍
58 all the way!
The '58 is the one. Some day.
The '58 by a mile. A no contest.
The 58 sounds better to my ears
