  • David Brown 885 Been on the farm since new in 1975 c/w power loader since then the tractor has done an incredible amount of loader work cleaning out rearing and laying sheds believed to of had 2 clocks all changed at 5000 hours with the current one showing 5500, bucket was widened to 6ft shortly after purchase to take the full width of the tractor, up until the last ten years or so it was common for it to have a new clutch every year, now it lasts around 18 months as there is a little less work for her but she still has a lot of muck to move! and i don't think there is anything out there on the market currently that could do it any better! the 990 Selectamatic is my latest purchase which is to be restored in the nearer future but i just thought i would see what she was capable of on the warrick trailer. Please comment! :)

If you want to stop having to put in a new clutch every 12/18 months, you need to drive the 885 in low gear when using the power loader. It'll take a little longer to clean out the chicken sheds, but you'll save a small fortune in new clutches. You have a bucket load of compacted chicken waste plus a concrete counter balance on the back of the 885, then driving it in forward/reverse in high gear - it's no wonder you're burning out clutches.

I believe part of the old Meltham tractor assembly plant in South Yorkshire still houses a company called " Meltham Mill Engineering " , they,re all guys that used to work in the same factory , & now make parts for these sturdy old tractors . Find them either by google or contact a spares guy here in England called Barclay Williams . I once did a tour of this factory , skilled , knowledgeable people , & ready starting , economic engines , but , best of all , HYDRASHIFT ! what a gearbox , I,ve driven one , my mate,s , & loved it . Pity the factory got shut .

That's it boy give it the beans let it av it .ideal tractor to put a student on for the summer whizzing around flat out marvellous. I'd like to see a bigger trailer on that .it can get interesting when you have a sticky load that won't come out on a hi tip.david brown shorts time as you get lifted up by the trailer drawbar and tractor dangling on its nose.fun times!

I own a 1976 885. Do you know where a guy could find a axle spindle, steering lever and p/s pump? Thanks

One of the best little farm tractors ever built period....there's a lot of guys in my area who still use quite a few out in the apple orchards. Hydraulics are a little different and finicky but other than that they were some absolutely fine machines that were made to work and hold up as well!
