I just inquired at a local nursing home if they would accept gently used fragrances to give to the residents. They said they would! It makes me feel good to think of an elder who maybe does not get many visitors or gifts to receive the gift of fragrance.
Here's a tip I've developed through the years. You mentioned air fresheners. I use up my bottles by spraying upholstery such as sofas, cushions, curtains, and fabric chairs before company arrives. It scents the entire house not just the room and lasts for over a day. I've gone through multiple unwanted bottles this way and given them and my house a new lease of life in the process.
Watching this video is like sitting beside a sympathetic, non-judgmental, wise friend who knows your pain and how to ease it. Wonderful and moving. Thank you, Claire de lune 😥❤
Having a large collection myself, I also keep setting no-buy goals, however I always find some 'mitigating circumstances' to buy that one bottle I 'desperately' need.
I have over 300 fragrances, mostly acquired in the past 2 years. Another dumb thing I keep doing is I always go for the largest size possible - perceived value for money and I would never have to buy that fragrance again..
Great video Claire - I have definitely lost my perfume mojo. Have not bought a perfume for months and have given away quite a few bottles. I am fairly happy with what I have left. I am pretty sure this is linked to the fact that we can now travel anywhere again and my money is being used to do just that ✈️
When I am getting towards the end of a bottle and if it is not something I'm still in love with, I'll decant into samples to save for future swaps or gifts. My cousin often gets stuff off me or samples that didn't work out for me. She fell in love with a BDK that way and couldn't believe what fragheads will spend on full bottles lol
I buy too much skincare and makeup and what has worked for me is to only buy products in pale packaging and I try a no-buy for as long as poss. For instance, I buy nothing in black plastic or gold-coloured packaging or dark or bright and gaudy packaging and that has worked for me. I bought one serum and one lipstick in the April sale at Sephora this year and I was lucky there because some wanted eyeshadows had sold out by the time I got to the nearest Sephora. I wish I could use up the makeup faster so that I could buy more.
Some wonderful suggestions! I still read actual physical books, so I like to liberally spray my bookmarks with different perfumes. The only downside is the looks you get when sniffing your book.
Every time I set my self a monthly limit for buying, I end up buying even more than previous month... So I've given up on limiting myself. I try not to watch haul videos or unboxing content because subconsciously it's making me think it's normal to get new stuff all the time. Instead I watch 'what I wore last week/month' type of content, I LOVE to see what perfumes actually get used in UA-cam creators' larger collections. Also, that way I can spot fragrances that I have in my collection and I'm inspired to reach for them. Or if I don't have that particular perfume, I can think what I would wear from my collection in that same presented occasion. I have couple almost empty bottles that I'm trying to use. It's so hard! Maybe I'll start using them as room sprays, better to use them up now rather than letting them sit until they go bad!
Your so right, hauls do really normalise excessive purchasing and it’s just not sustainable or ideal for most people. I actually feel a bit sick if I’ve purchased a few things at the same time these days, even samples as to test them properly takes time.
I think these are great ideas. I've not finished a full bottle in recent memory! I give a lot of fragrances away because the U.S. changed it's tax procedures and so if you sell things and receive income of over $600/year (total) then you'd better have documentation of how much you bought the fragrance for originally. You need proof of whether you sold it for less than you bought it for, otherwise you will be taxed. 😳
I love this! Very well though out and grounding in reality. I also utilize perfumes to scent my room as a signature room scent that triggers my mind to slow down. Def can agree giving away to charity as well. A rewarding feeling. Tfs! Subbed 🌹
I’ve been doing this gradually. In the last few dregs of Philosykos (somehow don’t love it as much as I used to, so it’s taking a while to use). The smaller bottles I use as pillow spray before bed and when I make the bed in the morning. Managed to sell a few mid-priced things and an expensive niche blind buy bottle which didn’t work out for me (that’s a lesson right there for me). I don’t have a big collection but trying to really downsize to only joyful things, not necessarily expensive either. There’s a few niche things in my to-try list but in no rush to buy anything.
I don’t understand how you can use different fragrances, unless you dry clean all your clothes before using a different one I wore Paris perfume IVS for years and years and years got complemented on it every time I stopped when I felt they change the formula and still have not found a scent I truly care about still searching..
Wow girl that’s quite an achievement!! I have about 10 I want to declutter of my 36 🤦♀️it’s getting harder I actually have huge dents in some of them because my collection is quite small in comparison to others
You are our wise fragrance fairy godmother. . And your welcome to come and help me manage my collection. I declutter all the time, but i do still love finding newbies. I've currently got about 8 that I'm selling and hopefully i won't replenish that number again 🤣. . . Fart fragrance solutions 🤣👍. I do actually use a few of mine as Naughty Cat Puddle scent maskers. Rouge Trafalgar tends to work well 😅 I like the water spray idea, also giving them away to charity is always a lovely idea. X I also take a few perfumes to work, ones I'm not wearing or ones that need using up. Depends on the value, but I've got a few bottles being used there. Hope your window cleaner turned up and didn't just stare at you talking at your camera. . . Perve! 😂
For a more permanent change, I might recommend a fundamental change in perspective. 💙 Spend a week abroad in a war-torn or poverty stricken community and you might return looking at your collection in disgust. Or perhaps a couple of sessions speaking to the subconscious to elucidate the source of the compulsion to collect. Used to be that a near-death-experience would clear things right up, but there are certainly less invasive methods of gaining clarity these days. After that, material possessions become slightly more...immaterial; and after you've used up your fragrances in the great ways you mentioned, the problem is unlikely to resurface. Heartfelt gifting certainly helps. As for the fart spray idea.... 🤫🤫🤫🤣

Same here.
I do the same
@@rouzellecoetzee4890 Twinsies! Haha. I forgot to add that I also occasionally perfume my rugs. Does wonders.
@@-HRHyes I do that too! I also spray my car’s carpet and seats🤗☺️
Spraying perfume on the curtains while the window behind them is open, spreads the scent through the whole room. 🌹
Lovely idea! 🌸

I know that feeling!

I get that, the price per ml is so much better even though we know we won’t use that much fume, it’s so funny!
Maybe split bottles with a perfume buddy
I use cheaper unwanted perfume to clean my wash basin. Doesn’t do any harm and makes the bathroom smell good.
Great ideas.
Ooh good idea!
Brilliant idea, thank you!

That’s brilliant!
I love using up perfume and I also use the ones I don’t love in the bathroom ,or on my curtains and cushions
Yes always a bottle in the bathroom, soft furnishings is a good one, I forgot to add bed linen too 💖
Project use it up or Perfume trays, I find is helpful for me. I like seeing empty bottles and get excited when I use up anything even a sample😂
Glad I’m not the only one!
Yes that's helpful, good ideas, I do have a lot of excess air in my house 🤣.
I've tended to just give stuff away. My nephews smell fab 🤣

I don't know when you changed your profile picture. It's a nice update to your photo. Looks great! 💛

Sounds very complicated and intrusive.

I’m totally of the cuff with a
Lot of my videos also LOL
I like the idea of putting it with hair products ! You have great ideas
Life gets in the way doesn’t it? Thanks Frances good to hear from you ❤️
Your hair is absolutely magnificent! It fits your unconditionally gorgeous beauty.
Awwww thank you so much ☺️
Great video. I always include my 10ml sizes as well being that they last a longtime, especially when you have a collection your size.
I drink my unwanted perfume to help with the loneliness. 😅
😂😂 love this, best smelling burps EVER!!
Tbf the Killian perfume bottles look like whisky glasses! Easy confusion can be made😅😅
I have about 15 bottles, plus an obscene number of samples/decants! 😅 And a handful of cute miniatures. 👍
That’s a nice collection amount ❤️

Love your ideas!!! Having a little more control of your collection is not only smart, but I think you enjoy your perfumes more. Thanks for sharing 🥰💞🌸
Thanks Marybeth I definitely feel much better about a smaller collection 💜
Thanks for sharing 😇
Thanks for watching!

Keeping a few at work is a great idea 💡
The window cleaner turned up later, he’s a lovely chap, nothing like the cliche image thankfully 😅

Yes a change of perspective will probably dramatically help, otherwise eat more beans and spray away! #beansprayer 😂
😹😹😹
You look so pretty, Claire.❤
Oh thanks Christie ❤️
May I suggest treatment centers for a donation, some ladies need a special treat
Yes good idea 👍🏼
I would like to know how to sell perfume on-line. I just don't have a clue. I have a couple of better perfumes that have just not worked out for me.
I use EBay, it’s fairly easy to set up an account. Some people use Vinted you can also sell on Fragrance Facebook groups from your country
I thought my chest was wheezing but I think it's Aniela snoring, love that! 😸
Yes the noisy little mare was snoring away as usual!
@@Smurfygurly love her 🥰
I’ve just used my Aldi Dupes to clean my sinks 😅
Love it!
I heard someone pour a little fragrance in their bath.
Oh yes! Sometimes I spray the bath water, good one.
This video is needed as I just received my 100th bottle.
Oops!
I hear an animal snoring in the background lmfao. Beats by dre high def audio
Yup that’s my little Aniela 😺
Be like Karl Largerfeld who scented his curtains with Mitsouko
Oooh yes!
I’m here!
✅
Using perfume to clean the insides of windows is a great idea for home scenting! 😁👍 🪟
😂 some people might think we’re crazy but such is life as a frag head
I loved this idea too because it gives an incentive to clean those dang windows.
great video, claire 🥰i'm on a low buy month at the moment ☺❤
Thanks and good luck, stay strong you can do it!
