I absolutely loved this video, would definitely love it to be a regular thing! And yes, very wise words at the end - I have had a month of buying a lot and whilst I'm really pleased with everything I do really want to slow right down now so I can get to know all my new beauties (and show my older bottles some love too!) x
I really like your new format Claire, it will be interesting to see different topics. About consumption as selfcare, hmmm, not sure here really. It depends wether it is consumptions or overconsumption I guess. I can really feel good if I buy myself a nice bodylotions or a pair of jeans, and I do think this is some kind of self care. But if I then the next day I buy two more jeans and a perfume, it is more obsession than selfcare. And even if we all are different, I think that deep down inside us, even if we maybe do not want to admit it, we do know the difference between selfcare and overconsumption.
Yes context is important, a person that is frugal occasionally splashing out could be considered self care for example, mindful shopping I suppose is what I’m advocating for.
It was lovely to see what you have been loving, trying and buying, Claire, I like the round up format. You said you also like to do those first impressions videos, like when people send you samples and what not. I love it when you do those, they're really fun to watch ❤ But the hot topic idea is also fabulous. I agree with you on the topic of self care vs consumerism. For me buying whatever I want isn't self care. Nowadays its often about putting the heating on when I'm cold or buying good foods to cook and eat. For non essential stuff it is self care to consider my purchases and stay within my means. I'm trying to buy better quality clothes that I love and that will last. As for perfume, I do seem to have more expensive taste so I will put ebay sales revenue and any birthday money I am gifted towards perfumes. I think I have spent about £90 out of my own pocket this year, but I have made some purchases that didn't work out in terms of sample sets and if I hadn't have bought those I would have more or less broke even. So it is a lesson learned for next year I suppose 😂
Reflets d'Ambre most definitely has patchouli in it so the sales assistant didn't realize who she was dealing with! 😄 I bought Ciel de Gum for my birthday right before they discontinued it...absolutely love it and so would love to try the new one sometime. Yes, would love to watch some testing videos. Great video and I DEFINITELY don't need more perfume so thanks for the reminder. 🙂
Great video Claire and I like the new format. No, consumerism is not self care but gee it makes you feel good, albeit for a very short time. I only work two days a week now and am trying to balance the needs and the wants with the reduced income. It is a balancing act and something I am still working on as I have a lot of travel coming up which is not cheap. I like the idea of a topic at the end of the video and I would be interested to hear how you and others balance the essentials against a want. I know a friend of mine puts away a certain amount of money each week and that is hers to spend on whatever she wants. Another friend pays all her bills, transfers money to her savings account and the remainder is hers to spend and both of these systems seem to work for my friends 😊
Hi Claire! Aquatic fragrances aren’t for me either. I’ve been reaching for No. 5 and Shalimar EdT a lot lately. You’re so right that consumerism isn’t self-care; overindulgence always causes stress. I know exactly what you’re talking about. I'm the same. Some weeks, I used to have 3 or 4 bottles arrive, and I wouldn’t even test everything properly before looking for the next exciting thing to purchase. I really don’t do that anymore. My goal is to refrain from purchasing more than maybe one or two bottles until Christmas. Self-care for me is putting myself, my health, and mental health first. It’s eating healthy, exercising, going outdoors, putting my phone down for a few hours…
Im on a Chanel trip.. Oh, i just bought the Chanel 5 edp, Allure sensuelle and now.. I NEED to get Allure EDP… 😅 I need som contrast to all the modern vanillas in my collection. Really enjoy it❤ (again)
I love No 22 and Comete. I wear them at home mainly though as I do with Hera. I dont want work to be associated with them . I remember Sculpture and got through a good few bottles. I have some samples from Juliet Rose and was really inpressed with how strong they are. I think a few will be full bottle worthy. Fully agree with your concept of self care. I dont like to feel overwhelmed with purchases either. I feel it can be an emotional void that people try to fill by spending. Also for some I think its just greed and materialism on repeat. 'How to smell rich", " How to smell like old money'. Some people need to give their heads a wobble. I personally have no desire to smell "rich' ( whatever that means) ,it just doesnt sound as if it appeals. Also I feel young women are so easily influenced by fragrance reviewers, like some kind of sisterhood? Its ugly behaviour and a bit of a mess I feel. There is pure joy in getting to know and love what you already have and really enjoying wearing it.
I like first impressions, though preferably on skin. There's nothing worse for me than someone reading the notes list from a brand website or Fragrantica then proceeding to pretend they smell them all, which they shouldn't necessarily, if it's a well blended, fragrance anyway.
Dear Claire, I have been following you for about a year now. Thank you for all your videos. I noticed that the balance between self-care and consumption switched towards the letter, which does not make me happy. The only thing I would like to figure out - maybe our wonderful community can help here - how to declutter 😊. Would absolutely love to see your sampling videos. I am exploring Maitre parfumeur et gantier at the moment
That Shalimar souffle is the same colour as meths! I sold 7 and bought 3 this month. It was supposed to be no buys but hey they cost less than what I made....
Consumerism isn’t selfcare❤ Word!!
Thanks for the chat Claire love to hear about people enjoying the classics & Chanels❤❤❤
I love your videos! Please don’t quit UA-cam! 😁 You are so right about it being self-sabotage. 🌹
Thanks Joanna! 🤣 I was only kidding I’ll still be posting in my 80s!!
@@Smurfygurly 😄😄😄👍

Thanks Maddie, it’s definitely a conscious effort to slow down the buying when really really feeling the passion for the hobby x
Love this format ❤
Thank you 🙏🏻

Yes to all your self care things Luke, I try to do them myself as much as I can and definitely benefit in the long term for it.
This is a great new video structure / concept:)

They are all so good and definitely a good contrast, classic and sophisticated options. Thank you! 💜
I like it!

I buy only once a month or a perfume or a discovery set. I feel ok with that, it's not too much I think. 🌹
That’s a nice way to do it 🌸

Thanks for watching, when you say how to declutter do you mean choosing what to declutter or whether to give away/ sell?
Yes! Please do more using this format 🫶
Thank you. I shall!
A great video. I've not been sniffing for ages. It's not as exicitng as it was. Yea I guess spending money is never wise.
Oo a topic 🤔 I guess indie?
Thanks Jon there’s a very samey feel from so many new releases it’s difficult to get enthusiastic. Ok cool topic, cheers!

Sounds like progress to me Tim!!
I saw the 🦢 and got excited
Minis are a fantastic way to sample vintage scents and are worth collecting in their own right, imo
Yes and they’re just so cute! So act as little ornaments too 😁
