Draymond guards entire plays. He guards entire actions and will take away certain actions from an offense. That is MUCH harder than just being assigned to iso guard one man all night.
What Draymond does is much more valuable to a defense than being a lock down defender for one guy and being able to ignore everyone else. Something Draymond is also elite at when he's called on to go 1 v 1.
Draymond is on a short list of the greatest 1 v 1 defenders ever, but off ball, he is peerless. He's like a free safety out there coordinating an entire defensive unit. Nobody does is it like Draymond. His anticipation, timing, and overall defensive iq is second to none.
He is my ultimate litmus test to see if someone understands ball. He's been the second most important player to the Warriors dynasty, and if you can't see how insanely good at basketball he is, then you have some learning to do. When you know what you're watching, he's an absolute blast to watch.

Fact is Marion played in a era where defensive rules made it easier to play defense, with less shooters to spread the floor, and Draymond has succeeded and done more defensively when everything is aimed for the offense.

As an older head I don't recall the "Matrix" being known for his defense but most important the system/eras are completely different. Their skillsets are completely different. Their responsibilities are completely different. Their impact to stat lines is completely different. TBH "Matrix" was having one of those awkward "Paul PIERCE" moments... "PP" thinks he's in the convo with the likes of Wade & Kobe smfh! Matrix sounds like he thinks he's better than Draymond & I'm sure even old heads would disagree with that. Bottomline, this is one of those things that "RETIRED" players do, especially in basketball for some reason!

To be honest your team can clamp down any team if you really want it. You just have to be relentless on defense. You did that yesterday vs Dallas in the Second quarter and in the 3rd quarter of that game. If you amp up your defense you can shut down any team. Please do that collectively now. That's all you need because your offense will always be there.

Is a rebuttal needed when Draymond repeatedly said Marion was a great defender? Dray just pointed out that what Marion said was wrong and he's not the only one to defend a player for a whole game. I think the fact that Draymonds career numbers are a triple single mess with his head. He’s a football player playing basketball that’s won a lot and contributed because of his defense. Very similar to Rodman but way less athletic and charismatic. A lot of me’s and I’s in his response and seems to be a very insecure person. Shows in his on court outbursts and flagrant disrespect towards guys like KD and other natural born ball players.
Marion was a better defender but he also was super athletic. Draymond uses his Basketball IQ to make up for the difference. Marion also had to play in a more physical era. Draymond deserve his respect but, I would take Marion over Draymond anytime
