Totally agree on how the drawing style shows the mangakas love for the story and the characters to the reader! For me, I know a manga is done well, when the artist can balance the line between these simplified/silly/humorous drawings with the more serious toned panels. I think they even enhance the critical and crucial moments, cause you've gotten to see the character's more "humane"/relatable side. Which is one of the reasons why I love the Trigun manga so much, because Yasuhiro Nightow did such an amazing job at balancing these styles and using them in the right moments to make the story so much more impactful. Can't wait for what you thought of vol. 2 :D (Also appreciate you adding in all the manga screencaps that you talked about, great editing !!)
thanks for the feedback on the editing, it’s super helpful! I’ll make sure to continue to add screencaps whenever i talk about visual specifics or quotations✌️
YESSSSS, it's here!! 0v0 So happy you're enjoying the manga thus far, looking forwrd to your thoughts on Vol. 3 and Maximum! What you said about Arakawa and Nightow's art styles being similar is interesting, because Arakawa's actually done fanart for Trigun. :D She is a fan! Both stories are very different, of course, but it's a cool thought to think that she may have been inspired in some small way by this series. "Vash is so cute, he's like a stickbug to me." YES, YOU GET IT. HE'S JUST A CREECHUR.
funny that you say arakawa may have been inspired by trigun 'in some small way' as if her protagonist isn't also a blond guy in a red coat with a prosthetic arm who refuses to kill (i don't know if that was her intent but that's a LOT of coincidences)
This is a great review and breakdown. I rushed too fast through this volume and you've captured the magic with your words. I think I'm gonna reread it with a better appreciation. Also I am so glad you noticed Vash's rage. We all think just like with Meryl growing into a competent badass, Vash is going to assume some real anger going forward. I certainly hope so. Thank you for sharing this! I love analyzing media like this!
So happy you liked the first volume! I love the Little Arcadia arc as well, so glad to hear it getting some love. I hope stampede finds a way to include it since Milly is finally joining the party
I totally get what you mean about the ‘fondness’ aspect you were talking about early on in the video! That really helped me focus on the manga even if I didn’t understand some of the panels/story beats right away - and in that sense, that feeling of fondness made me more willing to go back to reread the pages to actually absorb the information! Meryl getting that moment at the end of the volume to self-reflect on how she views herself and how bad she feels about being 'cold blooded' was SO nice to see so I'm happy to see someone talk about it. Something about a character being told that its okay that they walk their own path while ALSO being reminded that it's still important to remember the connections they may have with other people...that's my bread and butter. (Side note: love both the orange slice earrings and the fact that you wore Vash’s glasses to the Barbie movie because yeah that is absolutely what he would want.)
i think part of the reason i loved meryl's little arcadia arc ic because it feels so... normal. much of this manga is over-the-top action and world-ending scenarios that are fun to read but not exactly relatable, so it's nice to read about a regular woman with regular problems once in a while
If you ever do a review of the ‘98 anime I will devour it like a zoo animal that the zookeepers forgot to feed for three days because it’s my favourite iteration of trigun ever!
i probably will! i'm focusing on the manga for now, but even if i don't post a reaction series for '98 i will at the very least post a thoughts/analysis/review video
Finally you posted this! I'm so excited >_< I liked that even after I watched the Stampede, the manga was so different that I couldn't predict any of the story while I was reading. I loved the how Stampede decided to tell their own story in their own ways, instead of just repeating the manga. Can't wait to listen to your reviews!
the further i get into the manga, the more i can appreciate Stampede's delicate balancing act as an adaptation. it fills in gaps in the worldbuilding, it's similar enough that it captures the spirit of the manga, but it's different enough that it doesn't feel redundant.
Thanks for your thoughts on the Little Arcadia arc! I love how meaningful and hopeful that arc is. And for the record, in the Japanese, the kid's name is カイト. So, Kite pronounced like the flying thing works. Also in Japanese, Vash refers to the plant as 兄弟 or kyoudai. It's more of a genderless way to refer to them. Meanwhile, Knives in Tristamp refers to them as 同胞 or douhou, which has less of a familial feel, but also as 彼女たち or kanojotachi, which is definitely more feminine gendered. Edited because I forgot to mention this, but Vash in Tristamp refers to plants almost exclusively as プラント. I can rewatch to make sure, but I'm fairly certain he never uses any other term for them.
Yep as I was reading the early volumes I had to go back to the 98 anime several times to help with interpreting the action scenes(the sand steamer arc in particular)
Love the Review! There are so much I would love to coment about some of the things you said, but of course I'm keeping my mouth shut 😂 And what you mention about Manga Vash compare Stampede Vash with that confidence and determination was my exact thought!! But thats why I'm hopefull about Stampede S2. I NEED Manga Vash in Stamped!
yes! i think that stampede did an excellent job of re-imagining the main cast of characters as younger, less-capable versions of themselves so that we could watch them grow into more definitive versions of the characters that we already know and love from the manga.
Do you think you'll finish the entire manga and maybe the 98' anime before the second season of Stampede comes out? Great video btw, love seeing people's dissections of the manga
i don't know when season 2 will air, but i'd like to at least finish the manga before it comes out. ideally i would also like to watch '98 before season 2, but if i decide to make '98 reaction videos it will take me a long time to get through the whole show.
if you saw this video before i fixed the backwards thumbnail no you didn't

yeah we got the barest glimpse of vash anger in stampede episode 3 when he's dealing with e. g. mine but i need to see more
So happy you liked the first volume! I love the Little Arcadia arc as well, so glad to hear it getting some love. I hope stampede finds a way to include it since Milly is finally joining the party
YES and i would love to see green things growing on no man's land ;_;
