Abel, from “Reminders”, gets a head injury while working a construction job. His lover, whom he was running from, visits him in the hospital daily. His amnesia, while frustrating, allows him a new start. With his hang ups now erased, he allows himself to fall in love with her.

Choosing a favorite Radical Face song is nearly impossible, each is so unique and distinct in theme and composition and can be considered a work of art in its own right. But if I must choose, this would be it. It may seem random and odd, compared to all the grander, more complex, imaginative, and transportive pieces (for example my close second, Wrapped In Piano Strings). But something about this piece just seems so striking. The lyrics and composition are a tender yet pained mixture of nostalgia, anxiety, hope, and love. It's down to earth and personal, painting a vivid and specific story of injury and the struggles on the road to recovery; but it also alludes to much deeper and more pervasive themes on trauma, mental and physical illness and their tolls, and what it's like trying to find meaning in life and the world and become whole again after everything is shattered.
Ultimately, the song is about hope, the idea that the answers are out there, or in us, and we need the love and support of others to figure out the puzzle - and that's okay, it's okay to be weak sometimes, to need help, we are all trying. Sometimes, it's the small pieces and messages that are most powerful. There are a lot of broken and injured people out there who can connect to this song, and it's Ben's eloquence that will make them feel as if it's speaking directly to them, by them.
