Where Is Golgotha: Holy Sepulchre or Garden Tomb?

  • The Holy Sepulcher and the Garden Tomb are the two locations which have archeological evidence that suggests these could be the Burial Caves of Jesus Christ.
** Correction** : The narration mistakenly says "Eusebius of Caesarea, writes that in the 1st century, the Roman emperor Hadrian..." Hadrian lived in the 2nd Century.

I visit Israel every year, 1-3 months. I have been to both locations. The church f the holy sepulcher is one big pagan tradition, people from Eastern Europe pushing and acting so unholy in what's suppose to be a holy place. Now the Garden Tomb, the first time I wandered up the street to this unassuming place with no big fancy signs, no long lines of pushy people with candles and cameras, I walked through the doors past the visitors reception room and into the garden. The feeling of peace and love overwhelmed me. I sat down on a bench and cried like a baby. The garden is quiet, respectful, people talking in low voices not wanting to disturb the peace. The viewing place where you can actually see the hill which is right there. The whole place is a beautiful place of prayer and meditation. Trees, birds, flowers, benches, alcoves where small groups of people have quick bible study, communion , and song. Registering the groups at the center will give the groups a designated alcove and the center provides the wafer & wine/juice. You never want to leave, never are in a hurry, come back every day if time permits. For me, this is where Jesus was buried and rose from the dead. This is not a place where catholic groups go, it's mostly a protestant place, that's why the argument. Go see for yourself, and experience the beauty, peace, love and joy at the Garden Tomb.

When I visited Jerusalem what was important to me was to be able to possibly be walking on ground that Jesus May have walked on. To be able to to see areas that He may have gazed upon during His short time here. Sure, seeing this place where He may have been buried, or not, is somewhat inspirational but it is a man made attraction. Knowing He is risen is the really important thing. I love your videos and am so glad to have found them. Shalom!!

Once again an extremely wonderful job. I visited this church and saw long lines of tourists trying to get in. Inside i saw people kneeling and kissing the concrete slab. Others were wiping it with scarfs to take back to their home land. I thank God for taking us out of darkness into His marvellous light. The sign at the garden tomb `He is not here, He is risen` was a sobering and humbling yet exciting announcement to me. People were just weeping in appreciation for what our Lord did for us. You have brought back wonderful memories. Your country is the most beautiful in the world. Thank you for your hard work and faithfulness. Toda raba.

I am sorry but that is you hallucinating he does NOT come from the heart crucifixion justifies Jesus other wise the kingdom of God is what you are thinking of not Jesus. The kingdom of God surrounds us and flows within us and is the same practices in witchcraft. Half the stuff Christians make Satanic is not Satanic and is the work of God to conjure half this stuff. Magic has to do with the prophecy of Moses and the staff of Noah which resembles that of a basic wizards staff.
I refuse to accept anything from the heart I do not trust fantasy Jesus is a 100% guarantee fact you do not interact enough. The Buddhist doctrine does not believe or need a God but works similar to Taoist belief which also does not believe in God but a Tao and that the universe expands its self. They got plentiful amount of people who have the image of Jesus as well to justify there is a real living breathing Jesus. You should really look into taoism it's a real interesting philosophy and science.

The Garden Tomb has been determined by archaeologists to date to 700 - 800 BC. The styling of the benches in the tomb matches the types of tombs that date to the first Temple period, in other words, iron age or 700-800 BC. The water cistern at the Garden Tomb dates to the Crusaders. When the tomb was discovered by General Gordon a century ago, there was no garden there, and the Skull rock looked different than it does today. Compare old photos with new photos of "skull rock". The face of the skull has had a little "work" done recently, if you catch my drift.

They are not "idol worshippers". They venerate icons (Greek word for image) as an icon is seen as a spiritual window into the heavenly realm. Secondly, icons are used as part of the Divine Liturgy to honour Christ and the Saints.
Typical Protestant who's reduced Christianity to "faith only" without any Holy Traditions. Take out your KJV and you'll find that "faith-only" is a doctrine that's not even taught in the Scriptures.

Eastern Orthodoxy doesn't only go by the Bible, which by the way was canonised by St.Athansius of the Eastern Orthodox church. They also go by the Holy Traditions they were handed down to the Saints through the ages, by word (oral traditions) and by epistle (written), 2 THESSALONIANS 2, 15. The idolatry commandment in the Old Testament was concerned with pagan idolatry, which doesn't apply to venerating the Saints via iconagraphy. This issue was resolved in one of the Ecumenical Councils in the 8th century.

    • @Aerotyler23
      @Aerotyler23 3 роки тому

70 AD Real Christians go by what is written in the Bible. Canonical teachings are incorporated by people who wanted to introduce pagan traditions into Christianity to attract the local population. One example is Mary, the mother Goddess. That is why various Protestant groups splintered from orthodoxy and Catholicism because of the increasing paganism of these churches

nice vid - I visited in 2018. Latest archeology points to the tomb in the Holy Sepulchre as being authentic, and also the Golgotha rock (also inside the church). The stone of anointing is middle ages; no matter I knelt to pay devotion because the actual anointing is a fact. The Garden Tomb is dated 500b.c so not likely "the place". ----- However, many, mostly protestants/reformed, gather there for prayers/devotions. Sergio is right. The actual "place" is not what matters. My protestant brothers and sisters love Christ as much as Catholics/Orthodox do. And the Garden is a lovely place for reflection and prayer.

      Sergio,
The gospels actually present a remarkably confused and inconsistent account of the alleged resurrection. Compare the synoptics. They dont agree in any of the details. It's like Prof. Bart Erhman says: "Depends which gospel you read." And sorry. There weren't 500 witnesses to the "resurrection," regardless what Paul wrote.

This is food to my soul! Thanks again for all you do Sergio and Rhoda! Your vids are light but educational.
Some time ago I was brushing my teeth getting ready for work, thinking about Jesus’s time in his closed tomb and when he resurrected. I’m crying thinking about his disciples doing what they could to honor him after the fact (😔) by placing him in this tomb and wrapping him in bandages for being the Teacher he was. And I thought, “well there were no angels standing outside yet b/c he had not left the tomb. And if I know Jesus, when he resurrected, folded his bandages and put them aside to let his people know what he’d done, the tomb was still closed.” I thought, “Jesus just popped out because as the risen Son, he submitted the earth to his glorified body! Oh my God!” Next thing I know, the Holy Spirit is singing to me and I’m speechless for a few days afterward.
My favorite part of this video, besides Sergio saying “it doesn’t matter where his tomb is because he’s not there!” (🙏🏾) is the handy statistic that there is more evidence to Jesus’s life and resurrection than Caesar’s. 😂 Indeed, Caesar got what was his and the Lord got what was/is his. Amen! 🙏🏾

Thank you guys for these great videos on the Holy Land. You make it possible for those who cannot go there to see these things. We visited the Holy Land about a month after this was published. One funny thing happened. Our guide was an Israeli Arab Christian and we were supposed to be dropped off at one of the gates that he was promised was OK but it was closed so we went through a construction site with a ditch in it for maybe a hundred yards with some older men and women but we did make it to the open gate. That could have been scary and he was worried.

WE visited both places when we toured Israel last month. While the church was astonishing in it's enormity and artistic beauty, the Garden Tomb made much more sense. Given the short time between Jesus death on the cross at around 3:00, and the necessity of his burial before sun set and the Sabbath began at 5:30. the Bible says that his family needed permission from Pilate to remove the body, so had to run all the way back to his house to get a letter, then run back and give that to the guard, then remove him from the cross, carry his body and 75 pound of anointing oils, wash him anoint him, wrap him, and seal the tomb ...all in a matter of two and half hours. The Garden tomb next to Golgatha was the only place close enough to get it all done in such a short time.

I was there a few years ago. The Garden tomb has a hand carved channel that has a stop at 5:24 where the man in the green shirt is sitting according to the Bible in Mark 16:4 : They saw that the stone had already been rolled back for it was very large. Only an Angel sent from the Lord could have moved that stone under guard and would have sheered off the iron seal. The stone would have been carved from the face of the tomb and you can see that it would have been about 13 feet in diameter and more than a foot thick. The stone is no where to be found and they do not charge for admission. They accept donations to help with the maintenance of the garden.

Christian boxing match was superlative. Very inspirational, and reflective of many evangelicals as well. Been to the Garden Tomb; great place to have a moment and reflect. Evidence for the resurrection: 10 quadrillion (plus 1) to the jillionth power. More than anything else ever - He is Risen. Nice hat on the Greek guy I wonder if he would let me wear it?. Fire ceremony looks like a scam - ululululululu. Love the Kramer addition. Brilliant. Exxxcellent episode. Amazing and whopping!

Thanks for the video. However, the tomb at the Garden Tomb dates to the time of around 800 BC and wasn't a first-century tomb. Also, the channel at the front of the tomb has been recently identified as a feeding trough, not a canal for a rolling stone.

Another great one, Sergio & Rhoda!! nicely summarized on all points.
Church of the Resurrection, hands down. garden tomb is a superior place for most protestants to memorialize, for sure, but if I recall correctly the cisterns that make up the 'skull' in the rock face there are from a later time period. plus the tomb is the wrong time period also. I'll have to see what I can find on that in my notes. The ancient layout of the church is actually fascinating and the huge majority of it is gone now compared to what it once was.
that said, the true point is exactly as you say -- he is NOT there! Either place is excellent to memorialize the resurrection
and Holy Fire is amazing. one of the most incredible miracles in my opinion is how no one gets lit on fire in the streets as all those candles come back out in the narrow streets of the Old City with all the scarves & souvenirs hanging overhead, too.

YES!!!! While it would certainly be interesting to know which site was the actual tomb, it just. Doesn't. Matter. Why? Because He is not there! "Why do you look for the living among the dead?" (Luke 24:5)
A truly fascinating and spectacular episode, my dear brother & sister!
And what a Magnificent use of Kramer's shenanigans at the end!! 🤣🤣🤣

Hi Steve Kane! It really matters because Catholic Church is Cheat. Why we believe the wrong tomb to be the sacred one?
We don't want to be deceived by any one.
This may be the FAKE tomb of Jesus that Catholics built to deceive people. Original tomb is outside the city in the garden. There are several descriptions in the Bible about the place around where Jesus was buried. And those place have been found in the garden today.
Jesus was buried in the tomb build for Joseph the Arimathea in his property adjacent to The Garden. His property is been found and a tomb located there, where there is a "SIGN OF CROSS" and writing "JESUS CHRIST", "ALPHA" and "OMEGA" in Roman letter.
      This site is FAKE.

@@farwestgarohills3831 but then again Joseph was NOT allowed to touch a dead body or animal. So, the question is, did it really happen at all?. Also, Hebrews could not be buried ABOVE the earth..So, once again did it really happen? The red heifers purification had to be done. Was it?.. That wasn't written that it took place. Also, Yahshua wasn't annointed in time with the herbs and oils. So, did it really happen? Also, why is their discrepancy that the woman was so afraid..but yet in another scripture multiple women who said they seen it empty went running to tell everybody?. Which one was true?.. So, did it really happen?

    • @farwestgarohills3831
      @farwestgarohills3831 5 років тому

      Hi @Linda Beach!
You asked so many questions at a time. It is difficult to answer all in few sentences. It will take pages to make you understand somewhat satisfactory.
Here are answers for your questions, as much I know:
Q1: Joseph was NOT allowed to touch a dead body or animal. So, the question is, did it really happen at all?
A1: Yes you are right, Joseph was not allowed to touch dead body. Because, he was a noble man, a member of council. Like priest, Jews members of Council were not allowed to touch dead body; that was the practice among Jews.
Q: Why Joseph touched Jesus' body?
A: Because he considered himself very close disciple of Jesus.
According to Jews custom: priests and noble men cannot have any contact with death,
exceptions are made for their IMMIDIATE RELATIVES.
The Temple, representing perfection and the pure presence of God, is totally devoted to life. Noble men were not allowed so because they have to keep the clean; a dead body is unclean.
      UNCLEAN FOR SEVEN DAYS:
Nubers 19:11 - "He that toucheth the dead body of any man shall be UNCLEAN SEVEN DAYS."
JOSEPH TOUCHED JESUS' BODY - BIBLE REFERENCES:
Luke 23:53 - "And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid."
Matthew 27:59 - "And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth ..."
Matthew 27:60 - "And laid it (body of Jesus) in his own new tomb ..."
John 19:38 - "He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus."
      PROPHECY FULFILLED:
Isaiah 53:9 - "And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the RICH in his death ..."
Q2: About burial above the earth.
A2: The word "above the earth" means above the surface of earth. This means no burial should happen such way that the any part the body being exposed. Certainly not, any Hebrew was buried above the earth like Zoroastrians. Persians burial is "Above the earth" burial.
Q3: The red heifers purification had to be done. Was it?
A3: I am not Jews. And I had no interest on "Red Heifer" matters and never did any research on it. Sorry, I have no answer for this question.
Q4:Yahshua wasn't anointed in time with the herbs and oils. So, did it really happen?
A4: Yes, Yeshua (I only accept Yeshua, not Yahshua; although both are right) was anointed as per Jews Custom.
John 19:40 - "Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the SPICES, AS THE MANNER OF JEWS IS TO BURY."
Q5: About the discrepancy woman: Why many women seen/followed Jesus before/after burial?
A5: Jews have a belief, that is: MEN are responsible for death. And therefore, WOMEN always lead the lamentation; WOMEN weep for the dead. This you must know. This is why many women were following Jesus to Golgotha and after burial; but not the men.
      BURIED IN GARDEN:
Biblical reference to the topic were discussing
John 19:41 - "Now in the place where he was crucified there was a GARDEN; and in the GARDEN a new SEPULCHRE (tomb), wherein was never man yet laid."

Church of the Holy Sepulchre is a tourist trap established by Helena same as Mount Sinai on the Sinai peninsula; the actual site of Mount Sinai is in ancient Midian (modern day Saudi Arabia). Ron Wyatt's research should be taught in textbooks. The Garden Tomb makes sense because is it was likely Joseph of Arimathea's (a rich man) house. Also, that Roman spike used to seal the tomb was not pulled out - it was SHEARED IN HALF as the stone was rolled away at Our Lord's glorious resurrection.

This is such a well-made video and you handled the controversy in a very fair way. I used to be skeptical of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, because the atmosphere is not what we might like for the original tomb of Jesus. However, the more I have learned about it, the more I believe that the actual sites lie buried under the church. The Garden Tomb probably makes for a nicer visit, since it evokes the feelings of the story.

    Isaiah 64:1-2, NIV
Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains would tremble before you! As when fire sets twigs ablaze and causes water to boil, come down to make your name known to your enemies and cause the nations to quake before you!
    🕊️Prayer for All the Belivers🕊️
Lord our God, in our times too you hear the prayers and cries of your children. We need to cry out, for humankind has not become your own but still lives in pain and under judgment, and many thousands have to die or undergo terrible things. They should be yours, every one of them. They should all be your children. So we cry out to you: Reveal and glorify your name on earth so that a new time may come and great wonders may be done by your hand. May your name be honored, your kingdom come, and your will be done on earth as in heaven. Amen.
