It's funny cause back in the day we always skated flat and we didn't have all the frame options we have today and wheel bite was never really a big problem, you just kinda learnt the proper technique for the skate you were running and worked it out. I find that riding flat teaches you to be a lot more precise with your grinds and in the long run a better skater.
Back in the day when I fell due to a fuck up it normally ended up with a bruise. Now more and more when I get a wheelbite and crash - it ends up in weeks or even moths without skating 🙄 healing my wrist now. That brings anxiety to try a new trick and a stall in progress. I think there is nothing wrong in exploring the gear that already has been invented :) It is a bit like saying “back in a day we were riding horses” to me 😂
@@VandKoala Yeah no doubt, if you can find a perfect flat frame (Kizer V for me) then stick with it or stay anti rocker if you prefer whatever you feel most comfortable with. I just meant that for me flat is way more fun and more rewarding.
That is so true what you say. I hate this feeling too on flat-setups that you never know while approaching a ledge if it catches or not. The Kizer fluid V-flat frame was the first flat frame which I had made good experience in an overall-view (not too bulky, not too much wheel-bite, low frame-height). But for street-skating I still prefer antirocker-setups with bigger outer wheels. The frame in your review I have never tried but in the clip it is visible that it is catching a lot on ledges. So thank you very much and greets from Switzerland! PS: I like that you make the reviews also on rough ledges and not just on completely smooth park-metal-ledges. That is for a streetskater much more helpful.👍👍👍
Thanks man, very kind of you. Exactly the feeling of unknown is preventing me from even trying many tricks :) If there is one UFS frame that works well - oysi medium frame. I do not think I got a single wheel bite on it yet. I trust it almost as much as antirocker frame. Around 99% :D but I have ordered one more German frame to try. Stay tuned :)
Love those shots in the beginning, looks like a movie intro. I can relate about trying some flat frames and then going back to my FLT3s, but I think it's nice to swap around every now and then. I'm so jealous of that skatepark you were at near the end, looks so smooth! I'm fuming cuz my local council has just announced they're removing my local skatepark.
I agree, it is fun to swap sometimes, but it is also helpful to stick to one setup for a while, especially when learning new tricks :) That skatepark is a diy street area, just built by volunteers that are very good at working with metal/wood, but this was the first time they were pouring some concrete. Behind that brick wall is the greatest indoor park in Denmark (Urban street zone Brande). It is a really great add on, especially during the covid19 when I do not go to the indoor area... :) Our local park is 10x8m with just a few little ramps... and is temporary...
@@VandKoala That's awesome that you've got people building DIY stuff and that inside stuff sounds crazy. I'm currently trying to speak to the people in charge of shutting my local park, if you have a minute could you sign this petition chng.it/gpqb7GJcSm to try and save my Skatepark. Thanks!
Ok, I see you commented here :) I was looking at the slimlines and I had the feeling that the groove is super huge - must be like oysi in terms of locking in one place. But the H block is very low - must be good for royales and other groove things. I decided to play with more frames and for my birthday I have ordered oysi medium for myself :D gonna give them a try after I heal my knee for a couple of weeks. Keep shredding mate!
@@VandKoala Cool! Also replying on your other comment; there is some wheel protection, but you would't notice when looking at it. Its because the middle of the H is a little more narrow, and close to the wheels it gets wider, meaning that on a soul-grind your front foot should be fine because of the little corner from the H-block. Hard to explain, maybe you get it ;) That corner is very small tho, I think it might wear out quickly. I can't speak much from experience since I'm so new to grinds: so far I landed 1 soul grind on a ledge and a frontside in a bowl. Will definitely update you if I have some more experience with the frames, should be the coming weeks if I have some luck with the weather :) I just picked up skating again for a month now after 13 years and am totally geeking out already on the setups haha! Curious to hear about the Oysi medium! Get well soon!
I had this setup for about a week. I had the same frames with 58mm wheels on my Seba Cj skates. I had no problem with wheel-bite. When I've tried the same frames and wheels on de SL skates I wasn't able to do a royal. Pretty frustrating. Kaltik and Razors is not a good match in my opinion.
Interesting :) I believe 58mm should work better than 60 for sure! If there is one thing I can do with these frames - that is the royale 😂 I get stuck on other grinds more.
man, you fronside grind is on the wheels cause you re not leaning at all in that grind. in a fronside grind your foot doesn t have to stay perpendicular un the ledge, it has to be bent. i got the same frames but v2 (kaltik v2) and i have no problems. even on soul or acid, your foot is in front of you and its bent for not taking wheel bite
Oh well man, can you send me a clip of a nice long frontside grind on a ledge then? Probably you are a much better skater. I did not enjoy the kaltik frame at all
Another thing. Use frames good for flat setup (Kyzer V for example). Having a very deep gap in the H block is not better for ledges as you might need to get a greater angle to grind without bite. There is one guy who was comparing the angle you need to do royale on many different frames and setups. Good luck!
I had this same issue when I first got these frames too. Getting low I have found to be the key with how they designed the h block on these at least on ledges. Seems like theyre designed in such a way so as to lock you in at a specific angle to prevent biting. However, I always wax the crap out of ledges regardless of whichever frames Im skating and wheel bite is all but eliminated anyways. These are superb on rails and round coping though, almost feels like a freestyle setup at times but has taken me the most effort to acclimate to
Great review, considered these before I got the Oysi frame. Glad I did. I love being able to flow comfortably through a skatepark. I have a antirocker frame ready so I can get more comfortable with grinds. Do you recommend the famus wheels in an antirocker setup? They seem to be your wheel of choice? I have 64's for my Oysi when the current ones wear out, and 60's for my balance frame
Arvin sanchez whenever I am at a skatepark - I prefer the famus wheels. I ride 64s Famus on FLT3s and 60 on the fluid IV. They have an amazing rounded profile so you are still maneuvrable, great grip and the speed is simply better than anything else I have ever tried. I have just been out at a park with the 64mm famus antirocker and I was not slower than with the kaltik stealth on 57mm flat for sure, probably even faster. On the street I also do ride them. But they are a bit softer and on rough surfaces wear quickly + you can damage the edges. Give them a try. In our skatepark everyone who tried famus got stuck on them :) good that they are not too expensive wheels.
dukosek I struggled for like 7 months, now I can land royales pretty consistently with antirocker setups :) I have never tried a freestyle frame, and I am not sure if they are better than antirocker frames 🙄 maybe one day :)
I think they made the H block too deep. I have Stealth with Famus wheels, get a lot of wheel bite. The V2 frame grinds better however the frame is too tall.
They are good frames :) Especially if you don't want wheelbite :) But they can't compete in speed, maneuverability and grip with something like oysi mediums 68/60 setup :)
I think in general you put your feet too close together. On soul and royal. Try to put you feet further apart and squad. (You will need flexy hamstrings)
Geerd Kuppens that might be truth 🙄 thanks for a great advice. The hamstrings part, unfortunately won’t work that easy. It is already more than a year I am trying to stretch them, but I have not much luck. My hamstrings are very tight, I can’t touch the floor when standing. But I am working on it :D
@@geerdkuppens9686 As I said mate, I am doing daily stretching for 15 months + working with physiotherapists. I am not a very flexible person, I never was. So what’s the point of these frames if you always get wheel bite? Seems like a bad design
I think they are really great frames if what you do is only grind rails. The groove is made for a pipe, nothing else in my opinion 🤷🏻♂️
Do it on rails or coping.
