Very informative demo, thanks. I was curious about this amp when I first heard about it and your demo made me go out and try one - and I eventually bought one, too. I've been playing through a PJB Suitcase for the last 5 years and was looking for something with similar "transparency", but lighter and with more "oomph" for a louder band I joined. It is the most natural sounding Class D amp I tried, the other offerings were either trying too hard to emulate vintage tube heads (too dark, too gritty and scooped mids by default) , or had somewhat "artificial" sounding highs and mids. This one sounds just like my bass. The "non-traditional" EQ probably scares a few customers away, but it's the most intuitive and efficient one I've seen so far.

Will do, as I bought the Quilter as my new main amp. Currently I'm using it with just a PJB 4B cab, but the plan is to get a 2x12 built for it in early 2018. With the right cab(s), some have reportedly been using this amp successfully with upright too, and if this works out for me I'll be putting up my PJB rig for sale - it sounds fantastic, but it is heavy and somewhat underpowered for electric bass gigs with a loud drummer and a horn section!

@@BassMusicianMagazine A year and a couple of gigs later, I'm still a VERY happy camper with this amp. After some experimentation, it works great for upright too (actually better than the PJB, IMO). All I had to do was add a para EQ pedal in front of the amp to tame some of the mids from my piezo pickup. Got nothing but compliments on my tone from my bandmates. I paired it with an AudioKinesis Changeling 1x12 - my whole rig is now about 40 lbs : Less than half the weight of my previous rig, much more power AND a single-trip load-in / load-out !

I got rid of my Peavey 450 Tour series for one these, light weight, loud & powerful. I have it running through the Bassliner 2x10W cab & it can keep with the drums without breaking a sweat. For extra low end, I have it paired with a Peavy TNT 115 cab as a speaker extension. Depth set to 1 o'clock & contour all the way down counter clock wise, gains at 6 & master set to 160W out no more, It sounds insane!

Hey BMM Guy, since you asked for input, I'll offer mine.
I bought this amp 8 months ago, and have been using it exclusively for rehearsals and gigs. If the knuckleheads are scared off by the innovative EQ system, then I guess it's their right to be mentally constipated. I HATE complicated, over-designed heads (because I'm a gentleman who doesn't cast aspersions I won't name the brand, but I bet you know which one I'm thinking of). When I read reviews and heard demos of the Quilter 800, I (sorta) forced a local music store to order one for me--they first had to be certified by Quilter as a dealer, and what a pain that must have been for those nice folks. Patience is indeed a virtue, since it took around 3-4 weeks for the store to gain approval and for Quilter to ship it.
Why I love it so: 1. Don't know if it's a power output-augmenting volume knob or a full-power limiter, but I've rarely taken it past 400w; 2. The most responsive gain circuitry I've ever experienced (except gritty guitar amps); 3. The EQ section is so doggone beautiful to one's ears, even with minor adjustments to each knob, it delivers subtly yet distinctly different tones; 4. Love its weight and shape; 5. It can easily drive two 2x10 500W-rated bass cabinets--good God, the beastly power radiating from those bass drivers with both knobs dimed is nearly alarming!; 6. It's really easy to find a space on stage to stack it atop my two 2x10s; 7. The price was VERY reasonable considering the innovative circuitry design. The ONLY issue I have with the amp is that I prefer Speakon connectors, and it has but one; however, since I have my cabs in series, it doesn't make a diff.
While I took a risk buying the Quilter 800 head without first trying it, it paid off. If you can help people get off the mark if they're considering this amp, feel free to use my summary as a means to allay any fears or hesitation on the part of potential buyers.

There are so few reviews of this amp on UA-cam, so thanks for doing it. I really wish someone would do one with some of the popular stomp pedals going through it. I would have liked to hear depth and contour dimed (I'm into dub, so yeah). Finally, I would have liked to get a sense of it's power when a drummer is present. I'm already sold on it. Until I can scratch the funds together, I'm hungry for more reviews. Thanks again.

(5-member) Band rehearsals, gigs, I use one exclusively. Even with a 2x10 cab it can EASILY keep up with a drummer. For fun--well at least for me--I've outputted two 2x10 cabs (not parallel) just to get a sample of how well it can drive four spkrs. NO. SWEAT.

Quilter is the Q in QSC which makes the greatest professional power amplifiers in the world, Patrick Quilter is one of the founding members of QSC, ive ownd a rmx 1850hd for over 10 years and have never had an issue with it even as much as i abused it over the years, im sure this bass amp is far better then anything on the market period! Especially if pat is designing it... can't wait to buy mine!! QSC reliability in a bassamp... you can't do better!

If you trip over your cable you either aren’t paying much attention to your stage space, or you drank too much. Besides, you can always route the cord so it passes thru a cabinet side handle. Or just go wireless if you’re that impaired.
As he said, it will have unfortunate results.

I had this amp in mind over the bass block.I tried out the PF800 & I didn't like the sound, it felt & sounded "dry". I had it coming through the the PF210-HE & PF112H. I then tried out the bass block with ampeg PF series & the way you can match the bass block with the speakers makes them a perfect pair, I recommend trying this out.

I had the Ampeg PF500. I ran it through two Hartke Hydrive 112 Cabs. Also ran it through the Ampeg 410hlf. Though the tone was nice, it really had no head room. Wound up selling it.

Cigar_ Cartel test them both out if you can. I find the Ampeg circuitry does not compare to quilters analog circuitry. The bass block 800 can drive hard without breaking a sweat & still keep its warm sound & bottom end.
