Once you dig into the background and unstated parts a little bit, BLAME! becomes a story about "what happens when buildings don't need us anymore?" and I think that's such a delightfully terrifying concept.
Jacob Geller has a great video that expands on this concept! Two, actually; one about BLAME! And another about a house that isn’t haunted, but instead IS the haunting!
@@eriklaroi8 Specifically
"Gaming's Harshest Architecture: NaissanceE and Alienation"
and
"Control, Anatomy, and the Legacy of the Haunted House"
respectively.
@@Shatteredworld Thank you world serpent
@@eriklaroi8 Oh I'm a big fan of his too! I played NaissancE on his recommendation.
Too depressing…
YES i love that you're breaking down the architecture in a manga, I'm a manga freak so i love this sm
does it.have a movir or anime on it
@@sargera1 netflix has a small movie about a tiny part of it.
There are tons of very obscure manga with insane artwork and architecture mostly sci go stuff that has very interesting panels hopes she covers some.
@@NeostormXLMAXyeah! I hate it when people say anime and manga are for kids.
I personally don't watch or read any of them on a regular basis (just the Ghibli ones), but I know and apprechiate the hard work that went into them so much. It's insane
people underestimate that a lot
@@NeostormXLMAXany recommendations with great scifi architecture?
'a connection of feeling being insignificant, vulnerable and very lost'.
I find it funny then realising that's because I find it relatable
Just realising that's how I felt connected to the characters in the story, not by what their goals or motivations was, but just by their being almost insignificant to the sheer scale of the backgrounds haha
It's one of my favorite stories because, for me, I'm highly jealous of the main character. He doesn't really need sustenance the way we do, has a powerful body, he doesn't have people or pets, family or a home to worry about, doesn't have job or money to waste his time.
Instead he ONLY has a goal, a mission, a purpose, that is clear and non complicated, even if it's not easy. He gets to wanter vast and wondrous expanses, experience challenges and puzzles, enjoy solitude or company with absolute freedom, and only get up for one thing, without having to worry about a deadline. It's maybe the greatest existence I could ever ask for. But sadly, I will waste away and slowly die in the details
Tsutomu Nihei is so talented. I’ve always admired his creature design, particularly in Abara, but never really stopped and appreciated his skill in architecture until now.
Discovering Tsutomu Nihei during uni kept me going as an architecture student. Like you’ve explained, the way he uses intangible architectural elements in his story is truly inspirational.
Civil engineer after discovering tsutomu nihei: "either it's what not to do or you have unlimited budget"
Aight guess I should read Blame then, I need some of that juice
@@Kevin-fj5oeyou uphold the eternal truth that an engineer exists to tell the architect “No.”
I've always been interested in architecture since I was a teen, though I never got to study it. But I'm glad I've discovered the manga earlier this year, I hope to finish it someday
no you wont ........although the comick end ....the story' left in clift hanger
It’s sort of Alice in Wonderland in reverse because the protagonist doesn’t go down the rabbit hole but climbing out of it. Killy in some ways is Tsutomu Nihei as he was going through a depression. Killy is searching for hope, a better future while Nihei was searching for a light at the end of the tunnel that is an end to his depression. The evolution of his art style depicts this clearly when compare BLAME! To Aposims.
@@memesfromdeepspace1075 is not really a cliff hanger, you can also read the secuels, Blame 2 and Netsphere Engineer to know what happens after
BLAME! is genuinely my favorite manga/movie. the architecture, character design, and backstories are so interesting to look at. in the movie, instead of focusing on killy, they focus on zuru and tae (as well as the village). when you look at the bigger picture, its quite incredible. killy has been through 6000+ levels and this village is just one of possibly many more he has encountered. ive always been fascinated by robots and mechanical stuff, especially when it comes to the safeguards. god its incredible!!
I have always thought that the super structure witch is what the city in city’s thing is called was an architectural spiders web and the safeguards as the spiders and Killy as the spiderhawk with all the other mechanical and bio mechanical creatures like the builders as unique members of the artificial food chain of the superstructure
Can you tell where i can find the manga
Blame! Is one of my FAVORITE Manga! It is one of the most revisitable stories because of how it tells its story
It needs a decent anime adaptation
Dunno why but i could listen to her for hours. It's calming and informative and the accent and voice fit so well.
OMG, COULDNT AGREE MORE!! SAME!!!
i don't like how she moves so much. i also like her voice
hmm i wonder why….maybe its that really nice stunning background wall
Also, the lady has a unique classy vibe
@@olderalt.4066 thanks. Now I can't unsee it. Still like her voice though. But it's kinda oddly mixed. Notice how the audio shifts left and right and duplicates
You should totally do one of these on Girls Last Tour. I always found the world they were surviving in and the structure of it and how it plays into the story to be fascinating. I would love to know the potential reasoning behind some of these designs!
Girl, I ❤ ur brain, the combination of knowledge and emotion in ur stories is amazing. 🎉
Oh wow. I already loved the shorts and content but seeing some on BLAME! Is AWESOME 😍. My absolute favorite manga. Thanks for the dive. ♥️
Seeing architecture in our favorite media properties being covered by an architect is great.
@@Power_Cosmic27 also, Dami has this vibe that's just absolutely captivating. Almost like a character of Blame! I could just stand in awe for hours on end.
@@NicolasEmbleton a captivating vibe? Nah bro you're just being a simpy mcsimpleton bc she's pretty

I’d LOVE to see a full in depth video on this now.
I love Tsutomu Nihei's work. Blame! and Abara are my all time favorite manga.
Your voice really is unintentional ASMR. Your tone and cadence are amazing and the topics are perfectly encapsulated!
Your analysis of Blame! is excellent. That’s one of the things about this manga that makes it unique
yh
Glad you covered my favorite manga! This mamga actually the reason of me currently studying architecture
I love the architecture in this manga. I read all volumes in a few days during COVID lockdown. I would spend long moments staring at panels, just examining the buildings and backgrounds which were characters in themselves. You could imply so much of the history of that world with the environment details. So foreboding and beautiful despite nothing really happening in the image. I wish there was more media from this IP. Netflix never continued the OVA CG series (I know it isn't good, but I will take it over nothing). And the shorts are cool and abstract but I want more.
Yea, it really captures how Brutalism at its best is merely an apathetic blight upon societies but at its worst it has an almost malicious ability to suck the joy out of everything around it.
One of my first introductions to manga and one of my absolute favorites! Would love to see you dive deeper into this subject a lot more 😊
I cannot express how much I love you for talking about this, totally out of left field, Blame always felt like a niece manga, amazing to see you talk about this masterpiece
I think it’s also good for nephews and even other relatives too
@@jankel4452only nieces
I have been trying to remember the name of this manga for what feels like forever... Crazy beautiful and unique even amongst it's peers
J’avoue être fasciné et surpris par cette façon de voir l’architecture au travers d’œuvres d’art. Très bon travail.
I love that someone's finally talking about Nihei's worlds!!!!
He is hands down the best artist. Not just blame, but all the smaller works he's done are just phenomenal
YOOOOO BLAME ARCHITECTURE ANALYSIS I'VE WAITED SO LONG FOR THIS ILY TSUTOMU NIHEI
god....she is beautiful!

You're really just added a whole new dimension to Blame. Congrats, you've won new subs. Keept it up!
It's awesome how powerful these designs could be! Really evocative and fully convitative of an interior travel through the consciousness!
In scfi Literature we have two terms to classify scifi stories , which are : Hard Scifi and Soft scifi .
Soft scifi : focuses more on the characters, character interactions, emotional development and soft sciences such as Psychology and are mostly character driven , though they can still have complex system of Scifi concepts. They can range from fast action paced stories such as Star Wars and more slow paced pshychological stories such as Blade Runner and Star Trek the Motion picture .
Hard scifi : It focuses more on the complex system of Scifi Ideas, concepts and philosophies .
They Tend focuse more on Hard sciences such as Physics, chemistry, Biology , Mathematics,
They are mostly plot Driven and most of the Hard scifi Stories are mostly very Cold and Dark and they never focus character instead focus on the Hard Sciences.
Examples such as BLAME, Dune, Foundation and 2001 The Space Odessey.
BLAME even standsouts from all the scifi Stories as Hard scifi stories have tone of Exposition but BLAME on the other hand can explain everything by Background art, Enviroments and Architecture.
BLAME without out any Doubt is the Greatest Hard Scifi Manga of all time.
Ngl this is the best description of the difference between hard and soft scifi I've read so far.
@@craftedteens Thank you
Dune could not be more soft sci fi lol it’s more like science fantasy. You are confusing space opera for hard sci fi
Shit like dune is more comparable to lord of the rings than any hard sci fi story. I would argue something like. The third body problem would fit far better since it goes so far into the mathematics and scientific concepts of aliens and life.
Also most hard sci fi don’t include much fantasy at all. For example “the Martian” is very hard sci fi since every thing is based on real technology and it’s unfinished evolutions
@@NeostormXLMAX Dune is a hard scifi as it explores the bounds of Technology and the harm it can do to us by exploring the Beni Thelix inventions such as biological experiments and and technological inventions.
Even the Golden path is a set a of Stratergies that leads humanity to become an infinite species with continuous evolution.
Unlike Lord of the rings which focuses on Emotional development of Characters such as Frodo and Bilbo Dune on the other hand focuses on the technological development without computers, biosphere of Planet Arakis and the ramifications of Technology and is plot driven as Dune Messiah focuses on the falling action of Dune and most of the characters including the protagonist Paul are very Cold and calculative.
In the Children of Dune we find that Paul is killed but there is not a emotional impact unlike Lord of the rings.
Holy shit I always wanted someone to do architecture analysis for anime and this by far is the most interesting one I have seen Thank-you so much
Ey do you recognise this anime, it was a top tier😆😆
So happy when anyone brings up BLAME! Also so cool to hear about it through the lens of your expertise.
Why is everything you talk about AMAZING? AHHHH
UA-cam ALGORYTHM is serving me GOLD 24k lately. Thank god I found you
Damnn i want more architecture and manga
This woman has it all. Amazing.
Oh so your UA-cam shorts are fire too!? Super cool! Not seeing much people talking bout how the buildings in Blame tell the deepest story 🥰
Im slowly getting the vibe that you fell in love with cyberpunk at an early age and its showing after you became an architect. I love your videos because of it. Tsutomu Nihei is a beast. One of my favorite works of his is Biomega
Hopefully you like the idea of making a longer video about Blame! I definitely enjoy it.
You have an uncanny ability to verbalize intangible concepts and feelings better than even any therapist or psychologist I've met in my entire life.
Wow. 1 year ago. I am just now seeing this. I was fascinated by the aesthetic and practical implications of the architecture in Blame! Nice video. Thank you.
This just unlocked a part of my memories, it's been so long since I've last read BLAME!. Welp, time for a reread
We can all tell that you are fully engaged with whatever sparks your interest through your pronunciations and micro facial expressions.
Excellence in one minute
So glad BLAME! Is getting more recognition. The whole series is so unique and amazing.
I used to have a tradition where I would read the entirety of Blame! every time I got seriously ill. My memories of the story are a bit like a dream-state as a result.
Very interesting. I wanna add that you are an excellent narrator. The pacing that you set is truly captivating! I’m not exactly an authority in content creation, but as a viewer, you keep me wanting more. Great work as always.
I bought Blame! today on your recommendation. I’ve got to say, I never would’ve thought I’d be so into a channel about a subject (architecture) I gave so little attention to. I really hope you’re proud of the work you are doing, it’s truly great.
Pls cover the Architecture in Neon Genesis Evangelion ❣️
She actually shows a few second clip in a video of hers names MEGACITIES. But, she doesnt talk about it tho. Hopefully in the future.
I want her to cover the cities in battle Angel Alita since the author also did architecture there’s also a huge amount of architecture and world building in mars on the later series that could be very interesting to cover
This. Makes. So. Much. Sense. Wowwww. My appreciation for the manga just increased even more. Thanks for this
Woah😶 I just found your content. The first video I saw of yours was incredible. The tone, pace, editing, and subject matter was perfect.... and now you're talking about the architecture in Blame!......I think I love you
Love this. I have been a Nihei fan for ages. I’m so glad to see someone else besides me who loves interesting architecture also found Blame!
The way you enunciate the words when you speak is rare and refreshing to see from a fellow asian like me. I'm so used to us barely opening both our eyes and mouths. It's almost mesmerizing.
I feel like Dami could be talking about what groceries she bought today and I'd still be transfixed by her delivery, good editing, facial expressions and gorgeous looks. 😅
She looks like the scary business woman of an evil pharmaceutical company in K-Dramas.
@@RealNameNeverUsed For me she gives a bit of a hot school teacher vibe, especially how she speaks to the viewer as if English is their second language 🤣(she sped this video up to fit one minute, but the longer videos she speaks much slower).
I've tried watching k-dramas and movies before but they bore me to death, so I can't really comment on her looking like an evil businesswoman. I do find it scary how insanely hardworking and ambitious koreans are though, so for me they are all scary - including her 😂
This is a great video analysis of this manga! Was kinda hoping your channel focused on more manga like this but I see you’re more focused on architecture and design. Still cool, but it would be awesome to see you talk about more manga and comics you enjoy! You have a great way of summarizing things down
I read this manga almost 2-3 times now and I can't comprehend the sheer scale of things built in this manga, almost 2 years passed since I first read it and even to this day a particular panel where it is assumed that the DIAMETER OF THIS ROOM IS EQUIVALENT TO JUPITER'S DIAMETER.
Truly astounding.
The night after reading Blame made me feel so small in my room. Like a toothpick sized stick figure. Then sleep paralysis came in and I fell asleep like that. In the dream I was in a pristine office space that was endless the farthest you could see merges into a black dot. Then I woke up and went to school.
Lovely story, left wanting more...
This woman is beautiful and enjoyable to listen to. Informative and clearly expresses her love of scifi.
Blame! has been my favorite piece of art since I read it over 10 years ago. I'm so glad people still appreciate it to this day
This was really a good short! It has captured a lot of small details. Good! It is like watching pictures that brings you to other dimension or kind of travel page by page. I wish more of this in the futur if it's possible. The unspoken gives a feeling of infinity. Good work!
This manga had me so uncomfortable but staring at the pages for hours as a kid cuz it was so beautiful too.
This 🤌! I’ve been getting into Lovecraft & there is so much description of architecture that goes over my head I fail to realize the it’s importance of the setting and how it effects the story.
It's so great to see Tsutomu Nihei being mentioned here
I can't believe someone is talking about BLAME! in 2022! Thank you! This is my all time favorite Manga.
havent watch your video for awhile, and this short has drawn my attention cos I like BLAME so much. Read this manga almost 10 years ago, and found it super different from other manga, and now you have explained the reason of it !! Thank you so much Dami !
I loved watching blame on Netflix 5 years ago. Such a good film that you reminded me of.
Wow. That's quite a unique premise. And explained very well.
I’ve been wanting to read this manga for so long just because of the way the architecture is used in the manga
BLAME!! Is my favorite manga ever, thanks for talking about it's unique environmental narrative ❤
One of my favorite of your videography. It must be a wonder to see from behind your eyes Dailee. "You're cool too". wow what a catch with a caveat should any suiter even genuinely impress you Damilee, I should imagine their investment in life and themself would have quite a way to catch up to your very own. Believing us most humble made lonely for us to make our choices in our paths, Damilee. The way you so smoothly weave time while adding color to the mostly penciled in back and whites. Is no less than poetic. Wonderful accounting for your youth and the grace which God gives all children in a fast & beautiful light, Time seems to, leave me an old man. One I gratefully add feels joyfully youthful witnessing you work at play dignifying us all, adding YVO, joyful investments in these UA-cam Videos. Thank you once again, good time-space dilation please don't impoverish this dimension present. I look forward to seeing more of your video creations.
It made me sad that it was over so fast, cause this Video was a beautiful showcase of beautiful art.
love blame! so much. the architecture in it blows my mind.
That's fascinating! I've loved Tsutomu Nihei's works for ages now, but didn't know anything about the man himself. Makes sense he went to architecture school though! The environments in Blame are such a critical part of its world.
She’s really drop dead gorgeous!
i just started reading blame yesterday and im almost gonna finish it, when i started it i already noticed the lack of dialogue but when i continued the way the story flows to me is so interesting and i found it growing on me so no matter how lost i am reading it or if the manga artstyle is old as hell i really love it
Love the graphics. His drawing skill is stunning.
Nihei is a visionary. His city landscapes are gorgeous.
I love love love Blame! I grew up reading it. Amazing stuff
This youtube short introduced me to Blame! And is now my favorite manga 😃
Blame is just so good, there is a page where some interconnect bridge arcs suggest the shape of the heart
I was looking to offer a manga to a friend who has never read one before. He studied architecture, Blame seems perfect for him as a starter. 😊
Never did i think i would see Blame in youtube shorts. Absolutely loved the 2017 adaptation. My heart skipped a beat :D
No idea why i see this short, but I've learned so much in this short video. thanks, good quality!
Wow, i cannot believe you know BLAME and breaking things down. Thank you!! This is one of the best anime
Incredible content, personally I've never seen architecture content being so nice
BLAME and Knight of Sidonia is so ... amazing ! City is organique, a real character !
I really believe this is her best episode yet. I’ve enjoyed this so much and I’ve learned so much in these last few moments just digging into these different visuals and perspectives! Brilliant!!
Blame is one of my absolute favorite manga. It still gives me shivers.
i love your production team, just with how your videos are made is a master piece
You blow my mind every time I see one of your videos or shorts. Gotta be my favorite.
Eloquently explained!!!! Really shows that you have actually read the material. Good job.
Whaaaat!? Tsutomu Nihei went to Parsons!? I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time THINKING about his work even when I’m not reading it or watching it. The scale of his worlds and stories is mindblowing.
THAT'S WHY THOSE BUILDING IN THE BACKGROUND IS SO SATISFIYING!!!! I read BLAME since Junior High, and those buildings & cities he built are extremely precise, like really architectural! No wonder why...
Ive read BLAME! , I couldnt breath cause how huge the art is
BLAME! for me has the most memorable chapter 1
It just slaps you hard with mystery, no detailed explanation, just a surge of geometric overload
I love this detail about time in comics/manga/visual story telling overall. The first sipderman comic had dialog on every single page except one, which give the idea that the image takes place over the amount of time it takes to read. When there's no words it stretches the time frame out to as long as it takes to take in the art and contextualize it, which is much longer without the information dialogue provides. Dialogue can be key in development, but being able to stand freely as a visual is especially amazing in my mind.
If you read this whole thing, thanks 👍 i just love story telling
I don't know if you've done one on star wars andor. The art direction and achetecture of the different planets and structures are really striking and well thought out. Recently discovered your channel, and am enjoying it. Nice to see a fellow Canadian with interesting and well produced content.
Thank you, this video is the first time I had ever heard of Blame and boy was it a fun rabbit hole to jump down.
It's so interesting to listen the take of an architect on a manga.
That really shows we all see the world differently and interpret it in our own ways from our own experiences.
Tale Foundry also did an amazing video on the architecture of blame and how it's used to tell the story. One of my favorite videos of theirs.
Definitely found my favorite UA-cam page of this year!
You are Brilliant at what you do, your content strategy should be celebrated for being so fresh yet so deeply layered in what you want to say. Imagine if every professional decided to show their expertise this way!
People really need to read more of Blame! Shits phenomenal. Also love the megastructure the size of jupiters or was it Saturns, orbit around the sun where everything takes place.
need a long form video on this and other architecture heavy entertainment material please!!!!
