In this lesson I show you a few different ways to use bass lines in your accompaniment. The PDF is now available here www.timlerch.c... All the best Tim
I really like the laid back feeling you bring to the lessons. Easy to understand and most helpful. I will send compensation for lessons when I can. They are well worth the directions that I receive. Thanks again Tim and stay safe Paul
Very sweet reminds me of a player I worked with for more than 15 years. The man amazed me every night. Any song any key no chart. Something new, he had to hear it one time. Im 70 and he was an old timer I miss the guy. Love you and miss you Eddie.
Many years ago I saw Don Mock doing a lesson which just opened my eyes. Finding Tims videos has been like someone opening a musical door. These are the best lessons and ideas I've found on the net. Thanks Tim you really have a gift.
Tim, This music lesson has been very helpful as I am trying to learn to understand walking bass lines and melody that work together and you are bringing clarity!!! Thank you 🙏!!!!🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Outstanding tone, fantastic teacher, no need for 100 of cut´s, special editing..."just" knowledge and GREAT playing! Thank you so much for that channel! Greetings from a cellist and "tele" jazz fan!
I am very grateful to you, if you want to play slowly, so that the finger positions, chords and freds are clear, I really give you a high appreciation for really good guitar playing like what you play
Tim your lesson here is simply wonderfull.. Not only a magic song, but the way you play it and the way you explain it is a real gift .. I cannott find other words
Approachable! Yes your instructions are just great - while a great guitar master you remain simple and approachable to us who are trying to learn this stuff - your communications skills are superb and I must admit that each time I watch your videos, I learn new things, artistic perspectives and I just love it. Thank you Tim!
Oh good she’s got a pair… of eyes. Careful Tim! 😅 Another great vid. Thanks for all the content. Looking forward to receiving the book later this week 🤟😎🙏
Finally! Someone who explains this in a way that I can understand. Pitfalls and all. Good to see that Ted Greene lives on. (Bought the two tone lesson from Jazz Guitar Society -- hope that's as good as a tip!)
Thank you I really got a lot out of this lesson... I have always enjoyed a smooth feeling in jazz chords... looking for a sense of moving on moving on... sometimes I feel like my playing is too choppy... I like your feel for the long note in the baseline and also in the cords... I am a singer who plays the guitar not a virtuoso guitar player so I am still learning... thank you so much and I really like hearing you sing keep it that too thank you thank you
excuse me for not knowing it, but that is one beautiful song , I loved your rendition , man . . . and thank you for sharing the lesson , much appreciated
Great video, Tim! Glad you a) taught this in the context of a tune ("Sweet Lorraine") and b) sang the tune! I'm not a great singer but I love so many of those great old songs and can do some of them, er "rough justice" (-at least enough for friends of family) Anyway, that's exactly what I wanted to learn. Thanks so much!
For anyone that couldn’t access the PDF Sweet Lorraine is on page 369 in the Sher Real book Vol 3, at least in my 1991 edition, and that was a replacement of the Original big blue folder full of Xeroxs; the naughty edition One lol. But I had to have it 😳Oh yes, I had to have it.
You’ve got the Chord Chemist body twitch down Pat Tim; I had to look twice lol. Dont Teles make the nuts Jazz Axe for light touch Solo Jazz. The first “guitar” not a lap steel deluxe that Leo had a shot at and he kicked it out of the park. They’re just perfect; I’ve got an Arch top too but out the solid choppers the Tele is peerless CC pickupified or not ( I got an American Standard with the Shop pups and through Tone pot and I’m not touching a thing; not reversing the control plate for my usual cheapskates volume and wah wah lol, they’ve got those near perfect out of the box in my opinion now) you cannot beat them. They stay in tune better. They are an uncanny format.
Hey Tim, Mike Thomas from the East Coast here. I just wanted to say that I really dig your playing. Have you happened to ever hear the John Pizzarelli and/or Father Bucky Pizzarelli seven string version of this tune? Anyhow, I also have my own Grez model. Barry is a cool cat! Great chops and right on with your playing! Dig it! Mike Thomas 🎼
Hi Tim! This has been so helpful to me. I am very glad to have found you on here. Also, you have the Tele sound I have been looking for. Is that CC pickup a Lollar or a Seymour Duncan? Did you use 250 or 500 pots? And what value cap? If you don't mind giving up your secrets, that is. I am currently working on a Tele build and would LOVE to capture the tone you have there. I have some Don Mare pups that I am very fond of, but they have the more traditional telecaster spank. Thank you very much!
Tim, I am so blessed that I found your site! You are a guitar/jazz ‘ Superman / teacher ‘ As a ‘ Beginner ‘ who has been trying to Play guitar for approximately 40+ years, and has a simple understanding of music, can I learn and progress from Skype lessons with you ? The reason I ask this, an apparently silly question, is that when you keep calling those chord qualities in rapid succession, I got lost! Is there realistically speaking, any hope for me as an older man in my mid-sixties, to really make progress as I desire ? Thanks for posting these wonderful videos!
Hi Tim, very special this great Bass Lines from the song. Many years ago i hear the "For Freshmen" in a LP with a absolutely humoristic Bird-Voice. You remember? Oh, your voice is with feeling! Continue. Is it possible, that you give me the direct E-Mail, because with this i can take the Google Translation. It`s eaysier for me. Bye the way, maybe you have a basic chord part from this lovely Tune (pdf). Only for me, you can trust me. Thank you very much for your mail. Keep swinging. Dolf
Completely unrelated - how on Earth did you find time to train and ordain as a Zen monk, AND develop these incredible musical abilities!!?? Yes, Tim Lerch is an ordained Zen monk. No small commitment, my friends. I'm guessing he doesn't have any kids...
From the age of innocence: their minds didn't automatically go on dirt alert when they heard some ambiguous phrase. Like mine did when I first heard this little intimate business... Tim is so talented, yet he doesn't project the godlike arrogance of that many beneath him adopt. Maybe he is always pushing his limits, so there is some unpracticed roughness thruout, and I wonder if he is focused on this and don't give himself credit for the charm, musicality and warmth. Simultaneously rendering the structures he is teaching w/ maximum clarity and rationale. Bravo, Bro...long may you run!
Thanks Tim. I always enjoy watching you play. Sway like Ted😀 The long format analyze/demonstrate is very enjoyable. I enjoy your "common sense" harmonic viewpoint, especially helpful, I'd think, when visualizing walking bass lines. Eg, doesn't matter much what we NAME a chord, I just need THAT note in the bass. I think that's what you're suggesting. Brings a whole new meaning to "Three chord song" when you start treating everything as either ii V or I. Mr Webb's - Up Up and Away Mr Arlen's - Lydia the Tatoo'd Lady Thanks Tim - Lumpy
For the last 3.5 years I've been coming here at least once a month just to hear this lovely tune again from you. Thank you:)
Thank you! Wonderful!

Can you make a lesson on jazzifying pop songs like this and chord vocabulary
I’m curious as to what pickups those are.?

Great tutoring style, much appreciated. (Is your real surname Lebowski?:-

I’m the guy stuck in the “good start” and “stilted” stage - for years. My excuse is that I spend most of my time not playing or learning jazz.

Yes, he does indeed
Perfectly stated
Finally uploaded my first video. "Garrett blochlinger warmups" thanks for the inspiration.
This is so helpful! Thank you Tim!
My fingers just tied themselves in knots and now I can't let go of the guitar neck 0.o
Freakin awesome m8
To untie the knot, you need to play backwards through the chord progression.
Nice singing too, thanx Man!
So good, vox and guitar too of course:)
incredble
