  • Here I show the painting process to create these two semi abstract watercolour paintings in my sketchbook. I am painting based on memory and photos and thinking of ways to abstract the landscape as I go. Do you have photos of a particular area you love of memories from a special place?. By not thinking too much and following a few basic ideas I think you can quickly get some ideas down which will then generate new ideas!. I talk about wet on wet work and building up later layers using aquapasto. Below I list some other tutorials using this fantastic watercolour medium.

Everything you do is quite lovely. As a beginner I wish I could see you mixing more of the colours to see how you arrive at them especially the neutrals. Very enjoyable and informative thank you

I really enjoyed this! FYI--your Etsy link wouldn’t work for me. I’m in the US, if that’s relevant.

Thank you! I will check. The Etsy link is for my clipart shop which is quite different to my art as it is watercolour flowers. I have a website and also another Etsy shop with prints of my watercolour landscapes (I might add this one). Ill check out all the links and figure out why it is not working. Thank you! 🙏

Thanks for introducing me to aquapasto, my new best friend! You have inspired me to experiment with abstraction in landscape work and I am really enjoying playing with the process.
I am a fan of the scratched marks and the way they contrast with flat planes of color enriching the texture of the surface.
Your videos are very interesting. Looking forward to the next one!

Thank you so much. I am so glad the videos have inspired you to experiment. I have recently added more texture to my work and I do feel like its a useful (if not traditional) way to add interest to the surface of the painting. The possibility for experimenting seem endless. I hope you get on well with your landscapes!

You showed me something new today! I've never heard of the aquapasto before, and quite like the texture it gave your river! Thank you, I'll see if I can find a small amount of the aquapasto and give it a try with (and without) gouache. Love your first painting, and your pronunciation of GOO-ash!

Thank you! Pretty sure I am pronunciating it wrong as lately I heard alot of people on You Tube saying it differently! I say it the same as my mother used to say it and cant seem to change it now! :)

So beautifully soft & fresh. I particularly loved the first one which ended up looking quite misty at the top

can you share the type of masking tape you use, as I have only used the blue or Orange painters tape which seems to have a stronger tack than I would like, thanks so much. I am a very representational watercolorist who wants to loosen up and your work is really inspiring me, thank you!

Thats great! The tape was from a local art shop and I can not seem to find a link. It was very low tack and almost like washi tape. If you google that something might come up. Thank you!

I liked the paintings, but I did not like the scratches, they seemed unnecessary and looked tacky to me. The brown lines you painted did a better job of conveying the lines that crossed the field. If it had not been for the scratches, I would have loved the paintings. They had a very serene and minimalistic quality, while still being a good representation of the place in the reference images. I am not a fan of most abstract art, but I can appreciate a simplified painting sans details, that presents as a beautiful representation that does not require some kind of Freudian interpretation,

Thank you for your comment and honesty. I am really glad that you liked the overall painting and the idea behind it. I too like simplified paintings. It is interesting to hear that you did not like all the marks. I do like abstract art but I know that not everyone does and I am glad there was something in these you liked.

That’s so interesting because I love the scratches! They add interest and texture for me when I look at it. They can also be fun for the painter to do as an expressive, personal touch to a painting.

Hi ! Lovely artwork ! Green is such a tricky colour. I like quasi monochromatic paintings. This is lovely with blues but it proves much more difficult with green because the painting looks rapidly overworked. I think you said it right : the trick is not to put too much . Lesson learned 😉
Ps: I have not received the aquapasto yet . Can’t wait !

    • @annamabellaedgley
      @annamabellaedgley  9 днів тому +1

Yes, its so true. I dont know why green is so hard when it is all around us in nature! Hope it arrives soon :)

Lovely, just wish you would show your source photos longer than a few seconds. I wanted to try your style but need the photos to see how I would paint the same scene. oh well
