Crazy styling--one of the last Mopars of the Virgil Exner styling era--but an outstanding performance car when properly optioned, thanks to its smaller dimensions (compared to the Impala and Galaxy of that year). Sharp ride.
I had 1962 Dodge Dart Push Button Automatic when I was in college! It was such a fun car! It was popular as "the" car on campus to take out on a date for entertainment of the "push button" experience! It got taken out on more dates than I did!!!! I had it from 1972 to 1979, Great car, and lots of fun!
My pop had a 62 Dart that he raced in the early 70s. Had a 383 and ran a best of 11.7et@around115mph. I can still remember sitting on a milk crate where the passengers seat would be when he was in the pits between races. The Good Old Days!🏁😎
My first car way back in 1974 when I turned 16, was a 1962 Dodge Dart with a 225 ci Slant Six. It was a wonderful first car, and seemed very light for it's size. I could get the old bird up to 98 mph full out. I miss the car to this very day.
Back in 1962 the Dodge Dart 440 was sized like a mid sized 62 Ford Fairlane and Mercury Meteor but priced like a full sized Chevy Impala and Ford Galaxie 500.
What a great car Steve. My Dart 440 coupe looked just like that, but started life as a 6! Now a 383 with the T/flite. Love your period 5 spokes. Factory 12.8 on cheater slicks with 3.91 ...should move right out, and you're wise not to drag it. I used a 2.76 for economy. The '63 was indeed an aquired taste!
I think he means it's the better Dart model being a 440, up from the 330, 220 and just plain 'Dart'. Polara may've looked the same, but was a separate model. I wonder if Polara even had a cross-ram 413. I seem to remember this 440 being for sale with a cracked block.
I had two of 'em. One looked just like that and was a 440, but with a poly engine. The other was baby blue with a 361 hypo. I had that one up to 140 mph but backed off. It would have gone more. I sure miss those Darts... Oh, I had a 68 Dart too. Small block 4 speed. Miss that one too. :( I wonder what happened to them.....
There was a Plymouth version of this in Columbus Ohio. It was just sitting in the garage, plain white. But open the hood, BAM! There's the 413 Crossram. It was a push button TF as well. It also had an aluminum bumper. Love those 62s be they Dodge or Plymouth. Now if they just had a station wagon version of this Dodge.....
My first car, all white, which I bought in 1971 for $95 (that would be ~$600 today). Bought it from a serviceman who'd been re-stationed and couldn't take it with him. At that teenager time in life when having a car finally means freedom for both you and your girlfriend. Drive from Virginia across Maryland and Delaware on a whim to sleep out together under the stars on the beach? No problem. Last time I saw one was in 1992 I think. Damn I loved that thing.
my dad had a 62 Dodge Dart , he had put a 383 into it ,don't know the h/p but it had a high rise manifold with two quads, a 432 rear end , with push button tranny, he would take it out to Fremont Drag strip and run low 13s high 12s that thing would lift the front wheels off the ground, and if you know that car, it's heavy and not an easy thing to do, he was good for sleeping at the line, but when he took off that thing would fly! but my first car was a 65 Baracuda 273 automatic not the formula4
Funny they got an RB engine in that thing, when a few years later they had trouble shoe-horning in a 383 with the lower deck height into a 2nd generation A-body. The 383 in a Barracuda had a lower output rating than in a B-Body, b/c they had to use a more restrictive 'block hugger' exhaust.
Pretty cool ole car it’s better looking than the 63 but the 64 and 65 are the most beautiful all the Polara and Belvedere they were the best cars Chrysler built in my opinion if it was mine I’d be at the strip every weekend that’s what they were built for Chrysler led the way as far as I’m concerned in the early 60 s to me this is a muscle car and they are the.most beautiful mopar or no car
What is he talking about it being the "better" model? The 62 Dodge had the Polara that had way more features and chrome and style than the regular Dart, yes it's a Dart 440, but the Polara is the way more valuable model.
He's comparing it to the typical way a max wedge was usually ordered new which was plain Jane but there are max wedge polaras convertibles and even 4 door versions

Simply beautiful... What a treasure. Much better looking than the 63.

In 1962 and 63 it was a 409 eater.

Stunning.
My first car was also a 62 Dart 440, but mine had a 318 v8 engine . I loved it and everyone found it unique with the push button tranny1
In Aussie, it was similar. -loved that push button transmission.
I would like to have one, there are none here in eastern PA.

Yep. My dad had this and it was something . All I can say this can outstrip anything that was at that time being....
man the guy with the mic has never seen, "its a mad mad mad mad world"

I'd love to see that car and you know I got one in my backyard so I got to make it right

Perhaps this is where the new bentley mulsanne got the idea of the headlight design
I wonder how much will it cost cuz it's super rare
ESTILO 100x100+POTENCIA, que diseño por favor!!
I tried to buy one of these from the dealer in Kelso, Wash. but he wouldn't sell it to me because I was 18 years old.

Listen again!
440 engine came out in 66,,,seems like this 'owner' would know that
“Better model” more like heavier and more rattley model.
