Yes, I felt like I lost my Uncle. Why is it when we get back on track when Life seems to suddenly end? I did watch Camp Candy, Vacation, Home Alone, and Great Outdoors. In 2018 I sunddely started watching Uncle Buck. I guess I never understood it until I had four kids. I’ve seen it over 20 times this year. Very poetic.
I did not see the ending of this film coming at all. Totally blind sided me and a credit to Hughes for hiding it so well. I went from laughing my ass off to suddenly feeling tears well up in my eyes. It cemented the film as a classic. Its one of the Holiday Essentials. Out side of the silly GREAT comedy it is a beautiful film. John Candy oh the humanity
That was the reason I bought a video of the movie for my brother after watching it the first time. My brother was driving my mother and myself around Eugene Oregon showing us around. A hippy on a bike came along toward us yelling. We got closer and heard him yelling, "You're going the wrong way !!!" Then my brother says, " Uh oh, we're going the wrong way on a oneway street." Then on the way out of Eugene, my mom got lost and couldn't figure out how to get on the freeway. I spotted a cop at a service station that was giving someone a ticket. When he was done he told us to follow him on his motorcycle. Also when we were there my brother drove us on this washboard road that made it feel like his pickup was going to fall apart. He wanted to show us where he thought he lost his springer spaniel one day. The poor dog Buddy was in the pickup with us. When we got back to his apartment poor Buddy had an attack of diarrhea on the lawn out front from some stuff my brother had fed him before. I'm surprised Buddy didn't have an accident in the truck.
Watched this for the first time when I was like 8 with my nan and grandad all of us laughing our asses off together one of my favourite memories and that's why I bloody love this movie

I think the only reference to the affair subplot in the final cut is when Neal's wife is watching TV, and if you listen closely, you hear a wife accusing a husband of cheating (a scene from "She's Having A Baby" as the video mentions).

Man, a couple of years ago, our local library in a small German village with 3000 inhabitants sold their old video tapes which were being replaced with DVDs, and I picked up Planes, Trains and Automobiles (or, "Ein Ticket für zwei", so "A ticket for two" as it's called in German) for 50 cents. Thank you I, 99% of the time, hate anything done by critics or fandom related to movies. Especially if it's a personal favorite or a movie I might yet see. This caught my eye because Hughes is such a enigma. Great Job. You answered my question, and didn't judge or babble inanely.
Another thing they don’t mention in here. It’s an Easter egg. The Green Rental car used in the movie (a 1983 Chrysler LeBaron Town and Country Woody Convertible) is a reference to another film John Hugh’s worked on, Vacation. Which the car they drove was a Green Woody Station Wagon
A terrific comedy , mixed with pathos that almost breaks your heart at the sight of a man witnessing a moment he will never know again , the embrace of his loving wife . A beautifully told tale of life’s struggles , combined with belly laughs
Oh my word. I just realized the Monsters Inc. short about Mike and Sully in Mike's new car is based on the car seat adjustment scene!!! My mind is blown.
One of the best ever. I watched it in the movie theater when it came out, and almost every year since at Thanksgiving time. I love the trucks scene. "He says we're going the wrong way. Oh, he's drunk. How would HE know where we're going? Yeah, how would HE know?" Gets me every time. RIP John Candy, and RIP John Hughes...
@ad I grew up three hours from where hughes did. It's not over the top. It's a frustration that pours out of you in a majorly sardonic way. I've done it. Are you saying you haven't been so frustratingly mad in a conversation that you realeased all the steam in one go? It's a conversation stopper. It fits this scene. It was also refreshing to see. Her comeback was great, as well.
I wish they would give us a choice to watch the movies with or without the foul language. I only watched this one once on video because of that. I'm watching it today on AMC though.
One of my favorite movies. He missed the “Canadian mounted” book candy was reading at the airport. He was Canadian and his last movie was Canadian bacon.
He didn't get to finish it if I remember correctly so Mpowers is right. They used stand ins and special effects to complete the shots for the movie, Wagons East.

I, 99% of the time, hate anything done by critics or fandom related to movies.
It was a 1986
A terrific comedy , mixed with pathos that almost breaks your heart at the sight of a man witnessing a moment he will never know again , the embrace of his loving wife . A beautifully told tale of life’s struggles , combined with belly laughs
how awesome would it be to see the 3 hour 40 min version?
Oh my word. I just realized the Monsters Inc. short about Mike and Sully in Mike's new car is based on the car seat adjustment scene!!! My mind is blown.
one of my all time favorites of all time...
Brian Scott Fucking one of your fucking all time fucking favorites of all fucking time?
Absolutely one of the best movies. Very underrated.
Still miss John Candy.
Re-watched this with the folks on Thanksgiving. My all-time favorite Thanksgiving movie, closely followed by Dutch.
Yep, Dutch is another forgotten gem
I love Dutch too!!! Run these two movies back to back every Thanksgiving please, some network, somewhere?
This was a special film for me and my mother we always loved it ,,,,when we got together we watched it again and again every time finding new things
They actually filmed a second version of the car rental return scene without the swear words for when it would be shown on TV. Those were the days!
@ad i think its mine too. Every scene seems to have something great.
@ad although, the leadup where hes naming crappy cars is hugely funny. A toyota, a datsun. hahah
Giant Sparkplug yes. It was not nearly as funny as the R rated version
I wish they would give us a choice to watch the movies with or without the foul language. I only watched this one once on video because of that.
I'm watching it today on AMC though.
I love the Chatty Cathie scene - this movie is Classic! I miss John Candy too.
One of my favorite movies. He missed the “Canadian mounted” book candy was reading at the airport. He was Canadian and his last movie was Canadian bacon.
One of the funniest and subtlest jokes I've ever seen in a movie. It just seems so "John Candy", I laugh at that every time!
Last movie was wagons east!
He didn't get to finish it if I remember correctly so Mpowers is right. They used stand ins and special effects to complete the shots for the movie, Wagons East.
Shifty77 I forgot about that movie. He was great in nothing but trouble too.
I’m saving this movie to watch it with my long lost friend, who is a fan of both Steve Martin and John Candy.
John Hughes cinematic universe
the king of cool Hughes, Fogarty, and Springsteen have defined my landscape
One of my all time faves.
I have a John Hughes theory that all of his movies are in fact one massively long Epic, chopped up into many films
I love this movie and miss John Candy a lot! There will never be a another John Hughes!
Fantastic movie..... one of my all time favorites. Warm, funny and deep...... human connection can be so beautiful when walls come down
Wow, Hughes' writing is fast...really fast.
fucking fast fuck like give me a fucking script right fucking now
Cocaine
He also wrote Ferris buellers day off in like 6 days I believe
And his movies are timeless!
yeaap that's what the clip said
Fun fact: after the credits, Neal's boss is still at his desk analyzing the ads, his Thanksgiving dinner sitting on his desk.
Great movie.
Sure is.
I saw this on the theater, apparently 30 years ago...i told people for at least 20 years this movie and spaceballs were my favorite movies of all time... now that I'm an old fucker spaceballs hasn't stayed at the top of my list but I still like this one... You can't beat a John candy film. Always classics. RIP
The part where Neal washes his face with Dels underwear. 😆
One of my favorite movies ever. RIP John candy
THANK YOU!! This is one of my favorite movies, even saw it in the theater when I was 12, thanks you for making this!!

Breen Machine - It’s not underrated. It’s a great movie, but not underrated buddy. It’s... rated
