@Malchik Blue Don't think he od'ed. It was a pretty fishy situation when he was found dead. He'd been robbed of lots of cash and his methadone. NOPD never investigated, assuming he was junky trash who had od'ed. His leukemia would have killed him anyway but be deserved better....in life and death.
I am telling you people Johnny was never punk Johnny was straight up throwback kickass rock and roll. Way underrated. Alot of people got caught up in judging him because of his well documented drug usage But the man could flat out play
Thank you, thank you so much for putting this up on yt, Bjarnarr. He was, in the late 1970s/early 1980s, one of my old knock-about acquaintances & compradres in crime. Stupid, stupid death. God, he was a pain, but he was worth it!!
Johnny Thunders was a true guitar hero. Many try to imitate his style but he was the original. It's a tragedy that we lost him to heroin addiction and his eventual death.
Because the media never liked Johnny Thunders. They don't give a fck about that he's one of the most influential guitarists off all time, but they focus on him as a junkie/boozer. Which the majority of th guitarists you will find on those lists also was. They just don't care about his music and influence, only his personal life. - Twats indeed.
I think the Dolls were considered a novelty act and never taken seriously. May glam guitarists like Slade's Dave Hill or Marc Bolan are true rock'n'roll players, playing with soul and minimal technique. Oh yeah, Johnny also should top any list of best guitar player dress sense. Who else could out cool Keith Richards at his own game?
When my mother first put this out it was Thunders Nolen Kane that was the original name of the DVD Barbara Kane knew that Johnny had a stalker to come on as a guest and Jerry was going to be there of course that's Barry Jones from Jerry's group The London Cowboys also from Johnny's group. He was very happy he had just found out he was going to have a daughter even though he was struggling he did the best damn show he could possibly do I'll never forget him for that I miss you Uncle John rest in peace
All the toxins sweated out by Keith Richards in his first rehab were put into a petri dish to make Johnny Thunders, the very distillation of rock n roll.
Duh ... just slightly. "Keef" was his major role model, and it's clear to see. Unfortunately, JT couldn't afford the medics & facilities which've kept the old Rolling Stone alive-ish. He was "Born Too Loose", not to lose, and his guitar-playing - no, he didn't care to be a virtuoso, he kept it simple - was absolutely iconic, I can still hear it all over the place in the very many, clued-up guitarists influenced by him & his unique sound ... thunderous!!
I'm not a very big fan of listing and ranking guitarplayers, singers, bands etc, since its all in the end individually. I guess what pisses me the most of with those lists, and the fact that NONE of them show Johnny Thunders, is the lack of recognition towards him.. But if I were to say who I like the most, It'd be Keith Richards, Slash, Johnny Thunders and maybe Jimmy Page.
My list is Link Wray, Dick Dale ,Roy Clark (that's right, I said "ROY CLARK" ,the banjo picker from the 1960s and 1970s country music variety show "HEE HAW"), Billy Idol's guitarist Steve Stevens, JOHNNY THUNDERS, Eddie Angel, Angus Young, Malcolm Young, Johnny Cash and this list isn't in any particular order ,because it'll probably keep getting longer. And about Roy Clark, you should check out some of the stuff he's done in his career! He was lightning fast with the guitar. And he didn't just play country music either. He also played rockabilly, blues, and Flamenco. He passed back in 2018 I believe...
This is a great disk. John was sober and in great form. Crowd was a little subdued but maybe they were just in awe... RIP Thunders, Nolan and Kane LAMF DTK
@Bjarnarr .. he was very influential to many of us who play but he's not a real technical player, like a micheal schenker or steve vai. more a blues based punk grinder, and i absolutley LOVED his playing !!! screw those clowns that make those lists up anyhow. they dont speak for all of us... thunders rocked hard !!!
The real Dolls reunion. Without John and Jerry there is no point to Sylvain and David's shenanigans. It is not the New York Dolls, it is the singer and a sideman with hired hands and I wish they'd see sense and just fucking let it rest.
@Bjarnarr ... right on bro, i was always a huge thunders fan. he was very infuential to me.. thanks for pointing that out, no disrespect intended for johnny, i truley loved the guy...
i was just reading up on the death of brian jones. it says he was found in the bottom of a pool. it also says he was loaded with drugs. scott jones said frank thorogood killed him in a fight. can anyone clear up what i am missing. i didn't see anything leading to mick jagger. i'm not being like lame i actually want to know haha so let me know whats up
Has anyone ever looked into his death? And look at this post from his " In Cold Blood" video (where he's beyond fucked up... you probably all know the one.) It has to be some kind of crime to admit to crime on here. See this: Johnny Thunders In Cold Blood Reply ·
In tune and in time - he must have laid of the drugs a bit that day..People are very forgiving of him . So many shows, so many fuck up's and the people still loved him.
@timjessa1 Johnny was never a technical player, like Steve vai etc, thats true. But, he was still one hell of a guitarplayer, and his influence was/is second to very, very few. And if you check most of them lists, you'll find Kurt Cobain on the top 20..
Hanoi rocks has paid tribute to johnny in many, many ways, their band name included! The Dolls/Heartbreakers were a huge influence to them, and they've never been afraid to show it either, sort of the same way with the Dolls and their relationship to the Stones. Mike Monroe played on johnnys tribute record, Sami yaffa even played with the dolls for some years!
@idontwantohurtnobody Eh. Whatever man. I don't give a shit if they killed him and raped his corpse, I still like the music. You can think as you please.
your life will never be the same after you discover Thunders. a new world of music will open up to you.
@Malchik Blue
Don't think he od'ed. It was a pretty fishy situation when he was found dead. He'd been robbed of lots of cash and his methadone. NOPD never investigated, assuming he was junky trash who had od'ed. His leukemia would have killed him anyway but be deserved better....in life and death.
JT did not invent rock and roll.
Duke Mantee Made parts of it a lot better though
@@dukemantee2978 he contributed a hell of a lot to it though.
fuk yes!
No one could cover Pipeline like Johnny!
Fuk yea
❤
That’s right!!
Such guitar greatness. Fast and loose, careening almost out of control.
Yesterday was the 28th anniversary of his death. R.I.P. Johnny
Johnny thunders and Rocky Erickson,.,, my favorite guitarists
MORE PEOPLE NEED TO THANK & LOVE THIS MAN FOR WHO HE WAS.THAT IS WHAT WE ALL WANT IN THIS WORLD.
I am telling you people Johnny was never punk
Johnny was straight up throwback kickass rock and roll. Way underrated. Alot of people got caught up in judging him because of his well documented drug usage
But the man could flat out play
He would tell everyone at his shows that “it’s just rock and roll” saw him numerous tomes and always fantastic
hell yeah
John at his absolute best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow..... Just amazing! Hands down the best version of Pipeline - ever!
This is such a great performance. Glad someone knew enough to capture JT so we could enjoy his playing and style some 30-odd years later.
Thunders was music! Thank you for this post.
i don understand why he is never mentioned when it comes too 100 greatest guitarists? hes so much better then those heavy metal twats
Exactly. Fucking metal is fucking overrated as fuck.
Thank you, thank you so much for putting this up on yt, Bjarnarr. He was, in the late 1970s/early 1980s, one of my old knock-about acquaintances & compradres in crime. Stupid, stupid death. God, he was a pain, but he was worth it!!
RIP Mr. Thunders. Nice to have 'met' you in London in '78...hope your party that I didn't attend was grand!
JT GOT SO MUCH ENERGY! HE BE BUSTING THOSE MOVES OUT MAN!
Not saying he's like "the best guitarist ever", but he's one of my favorites no matter what :)
i used to luv how he would open and close with this song
Jonny is the King of Thunder Guitar.
Dead or Alive...he will always be a R&R heavyweight.
R.I.P Johnny

Johnny Thunders was a true guitar hero. Many try to imitate his style but he was the original. It's a tragedy that we lost him to heroin addiction and his eventual death.

JT had the best charm at playing guitar and his lil swagger and guys like Slash,Izzy, and Via etc etc dug his stuff thanks .

Love you Johnny Thunders. You`ve really had the attityde! Long live and remaine.
All the toxins sweated out by Keith Richards in his first rehab were put into a petri dish to make Johnny Thunders, the very distillation of rock n roll.

He doesn't need a dam surfboard
to rule out on his guitar!
:P
Come back Johnny
He’s never going anywhere ❤❤
Classic JT🎸
LISTEN TO THAT GUITAR!!! WOOHOO!
I love Johnny Thunders and this is one of my favorites. Funny, tho-he's not the surfing type.
awesome footage!
The fabulous!
Great version of the surf classic Pipeline. Johnny does a fine job, although I doubt he ever touched a surf board.

not to mention walture lure, compleatly overlooked.
I learned about Johnny from a list. He is on mine now.
My list is Link Wray, Dick Dale ,Roy Clark (that's right, I said "ROY CLARK" ,the banjo picker from the 1960s and 1970s country music variety show "HEE HAW"), Billy Idol's guitarist Steve Stevens, JOHNNY THUNDERS, Eddie Angel, Angus Young, Malcolm Young, Johnny Cash and this list isn't in any particular order ,because it'll probably keep getting longer. saw him support Hanoi Rocks years ago ..amazing

Never paid much attention to Thunders, but always loved the Pistols. Now, I realize the Pistols were just noise.
The Leyend Thunders!
fotonica versione,,,,,,,,, !!!
they don't get any cooler than that
I was 1 year old in 1987
Johnny Thunders not dead
The real Dolls reunion. Without John and Jerry there is no point to Sylvain and David's shenanigans. It is not the New York Dolls, it is the singer and a sideman with hired hands and I wish they'd see sense and just fucking let it rest.
I like it better than the original !
@Bjarnarr I agree with you. Keith Richards comes to mind too.
Can you imagine Thunders doing a solo six inches from your face and your staring at the wall? Some lame audience members.
WALTER LURE
@Bjarnarr Your right. Keith Richards comes to mind.
I'm shocked. Shocked, I say.
God is good
@Bjarnarr ... right on bro, i was always a huge thunders fan. he was very infuential to me.. thanks for pointing that out, no disrespect intended for johnny, i truley loved the guy...

The sole reason why I bought a Gibson Les Paul Junior. Cant buy the attitude or the style though!
In tune and in time - he must have laid of the drugs a bit that day..People are very forgiving of him . So many shows, so many fuck up's and the people still loved him.
The original Jack Sparrow!
Bonnie full offense; but no. Thats keith richards, 110%!
That would be Keith Richards, JT's idol so you're not far off.
@timjessa1

wait .. SLASH? (really dawg?)
Hanoi Rocks was stolen this for their gig starter...

Bonnie Hanoi is Finnish band.Sorry.
I stand corrected.
he was good when he wasn't too high
Yup. No rocker has ever died from drugs, booze or plane crashes. There's always a conspiracy.
リチャードヘルよりこっちだよなぁ…
sex&drug&Rock'nrollを地で行った男
Clapton??? Here's the real deal...
Oh fuck that. So they aren't your kinda thing. They still have plenty of talent.
@idontwantohurtnobody Eh. Whatever man. I don't give a shit if they killed him and raped his corpse, I still like the music. You can think as you please.
The drugs made him what he is a legend
stone roses ripped off this riff
This was a cover in the first place
Why wouldn't they? Johnny Thunders was awesome!
ok, a little less reverb'y but RULED!!!
@Bjarnarr Your right. Keith Richards comes to mind.
