hello hello lil cherubs! in today's video i talk about episode 4-5 of the new Sam Levinson and The Weeknd's HBO Max show, The Idol, starring Lily Rose Depp. While it's no surprise that it didn't exactly live up to the hype or expectation, there's a lot wrong with this show when it had room for it to go well. Where did it go wrong? and who was it really about?

Seeing those leaked fotos made my jaw drop, it really was going to be for the girls and then it was snatched away from us
my thoughts exactly! this hannah montana moment could have been SO iconic :( i guess the weekend ruined it by hiring levinson
Where did u watch the pics
It was giving me Britney vibes with the cardboard cutouts being in revealing clothing
@@user-th3ez5sj9y13:41
@@socialnoob4853 yes 100%, I was just thinking about the whole Disney star gone wild thing
Ew the thought of the Weeknd basically writing torture p*rn about his ex and then turning her character into the manipulator… this should be illegal
Ehh i think the hospital bracelet was the only thing that was inspired by selena, Britney literally net a guy in a club who took over her career and that's part of why she had the conservatorship.
Thank YOU! This show is AWFUL
I actually said where is Trevor Noah because the way that he addressed Kanye it would be nice for him to come address this
The leaked photos of the "before" embodied the Brittney Spears inspiration that the director had supposedly wanted. It was supposed to be a heavy critique on what young women in the industry went through. This new version seems more like a revenge fantasy
Yep they even had Brittany on set. There are photos of it and apparently she's mentioned in the first episode (although I've not watched, nor do I intend to) I heard reviews and saw the photos.
That was a very Y2K, Brittany-esqe photo.
Although he may have taken personal inspiration from his relationship with Selena and added it in. Either way, it's just disgusting.
They were even interviewed and asked about Brittany being the inspiration for the show and denied it, even though there is evidence that kinda proves otherwise.
Yeah, it looked so good! It’s such a waste it was scrapped
"He doesn't even die" a disappointment for all of us, yeah
I was fully on board for Da'Vine's character to take out this douchebag conman.
Okay I did NOT know about the Selena Gomez parallels at all. And while I fully support people making art about others that have been in their lives, I feel like a line should be drawn when it involves THIS much misogyny and trauma porn
@MrGriff305 That’s part of the problem, the “she actually loves the SA and it wasn’t the scummy cult dude who was bad it was the manipulative woman the whoole tiime! (cuz they’re sneaky!)” is a very manosphere dude fantasy type of twist.
So it’s not that everyone can’t understand the galaxybrain twist, it’s that the twist sucks and is indicative of the exact kind of questionable attitude the show has that it was originally supposed to comment on - before the Weeknd decided a story with a female protagonist had a “too female perspective” and had Sam (I did scenes where a minor says having sex with a 40-year old meant she was in control) Levinson reshoot 80% of it. Try to keep up :)
@@inciteprogress5471I think that person is trying to say that the Idol is a good representation of Selena Gomez and that it shows her life well. Which is backed up by many articles about Selena being very manipulative irl… if I’m way off, im sorry. A little tipsy lol and wanted to put in my own input
@MrGriff305and if they wanted to do a plot like that, they should’ve done it better. The idea is not that bad but the execution is horrible. And considering the topic of the show, that’s kinda gross bc in reality young women get prey on in the music industry, not the contrary. And nobody can just outdo a cult leader, the show is just plain stupid.
Yeaaa😅
@MrGriff305exactly I'm tired of telling this to people, she gave her consent. Once he tried to finish in her, and she pushed him away. She could have done it other times too but she didn't. Wtf is torture porn or assault it's just bdsm, it consists of control, consent and co-operation.
I almost feel like Jocelyn being manipulative was an after thought like they didn't know how to end the series and someone went out and say "you know what would he great? If Jocelyn was manipulating everyone all along". There's so little "foreshadowing" before it happend.
I think there was some foreshadowing, especially in moments when she would say things like "i've been in this business for a long time, you're new"
I think they wanted to wrap it up fast. Didn’t align with the storyline
i dont like the show but it has so much blatantly obvious in-your-face foreshadowing. for example, in the first episode, Leía and Jocelyn were watching the movie Basic Instinct, a movie about an attractive blonde woman who kills her boyfriend. it was such obvious foreshadowing of jocelyn emotionally manipulating Tedros in the end. before Tedros comes over to her house in the first episode, Jocelyn tells Leía she wants to wear high heels so she can feel taller than Tedros. And in the first shot of the first episode, Jocelyn is shown being able to quickly and seamlessly change her emotions for the camera. and when Jocelyn and Tedros were having sex in the luxury clothing store, she makes him stop despite his reluctance, showing that she’s still able to stand up for herself. she’s even amused when she’s able to get s rise out of him after calling him gay. and then literally the whole thing with Jocelyn taking sadistic pleasure in physically abusing her “friend”, Xander.
I actually feel like they foreshadowed too obviously and then didn’t deliver, but also somehow managed to contradict Jocelyn’s character constantly too. Like they threw in all these random “clues” where it seemed like Jocelyn could be the master manipulator but then managed to make it not at all convincing with her character’s actions. Like we were supposed to believe she was in control that whole time and everything was part of her big plan??? And the “big reveal” was so vague that barely anyone understood it. It’s like they couldn’t commit to it and so threw in all these mixed messages in case they changed their mind…
It’s giving ✨and it was all a dream✨
so proud that no one is watching the show just watching reviews of it lmao NO SECOND SEASON
Basing on the ratings/reviews ( also the fact it's Sam Levinson ) i see and watch here, "The Idol" was never worth a shot to begin with lmao.
Absolutely, no one wants a second season of this flaming pile of garbage!
Good thing it’s kinda getting the heat it deserves but there’s still a large number of people (teens I think) who romanticize the show bc of how good lily rose depp looks/the soundtrack it’s so disturbing 😭
theyre claiming there was never plans for a second season but i absolutely don't believe for a second that they were going to turn down the possibility if it was as popular and beloved as euphoria. I could've seen it became an anthology season with each a different perspective of hollywood from music to acting but they blew it sooo badly.
FINALLY it feels validating to hear someone else say from their own mouth that they suspect The Weeknd probably wrote all this sexual shit just to touch Lily Rose, like, I knew I couldnt be the only one who thinks that😭🙃
it’s also hiiiiighly rumored in hollywood that he makes the women he wants to work with [musically] have sex with him first
@@kvtiebug 🤮
and then you have Levinson who loves to do sex scenes for his own pleasure. what a combo of weirdos😖
This reminds me of how he said he contacted a then 18 year old Bella Hadid to be on the artwork for his album so he could meet her and work with her
I THOUGHT THE SAME
I saw someone saying that Sam Levinson's target demographic is Sam Levinson and he makes this shit just for himself, and I agree.
Yeah I heard that he takes women who look similar to his mom, makes em younger and cast people like LRD and Sydney and humiliates their characters. It's sum weird Freudian acid trip.
@@yanavav Yeah, I've seen the stuff about his mom too, Sam is all around a creep.
Right. And there’s definitely a pattern on the stuff he makes.
Why become an artist if you arent going to create the art you want to see?
the fact that this began preproduction as a story about exploitation and misogyny in the music industry and ended up being a story about *checks notes* women lying about being abused and assaulted
The Selena Gomez connections are wild, the Weeknd is disgusting...
The fact that the showrunner himself said “in the end he was the victim” tells you everything you need to know. Because let’s remember that he physically, sexually, emotionally, and mentally abused MANY people, and all that “happened to him” was an article exposes the things he did and losing his cult followers. HE IS NOT A VICTIM SAM!!!!!!
i saw a tweet that said:
"amy seimetz’s version of the idol was going to include scenes that referenced jocelyn’s past as a child star.
one of the biggest flaws in sam levinson’s version was that jocelyn being a pop star never felt real or authentic so it would’ve been nice to see that fleshed out."
if i had a nickle everytime Sam Levinson had fake rape allegations in a show I'd have two nickels - which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice
Jesus Christ I can't imagine the humiliation and betrayal you would feel to date someone and have them turn around and make a show that parallels your own life (specifically some of the worst/lowest bits) and it's literally just like trauma porn. I really hope she's got a good mental health system in place & a solid support network
Seeing Amy Seimetz's behind the scenes photos of her version of The Idol really makes me wonder if there was ANY push back from the cast. I cant imagine working on something till it was nearly complete, and then having the literal director be fired; I would be devastated. How was The Weeknd even able to do that so easily?? I hope everything Lily Rose has been saying about the show is just PR, because theres no way she came out of this feeling satisfied (given all of the criticism its getting). As a woman, I cant see another being proud of the work of two men projecting their male gaze onto everyone.
I know there was a child actor on the show who was very involved but her storyline was cut. It sucks, I wonder where they would have gone with it.
Plus I'm sure a lot of the actors were bamboozled because they were given a great script/story and had to ditch it.
Just to Clarify- Amy was NEVER supposed to direct the whole show. She also wasn’t fired. Idk who started the rumor but she was involved in other shows at that time such as Sweet tooth. The show was created by Able, they went with what Amy had in mind but Amy took full control of everything. She said herself that she can get “very territorial” with shows she directs. After she left (not bc she got fired bc she wasn’t) weeknd took in Sam, which is a shame. But I guess they wanted to be as polarizing as euphoria and put some “dark twist” onto it. All of them suck in film making, that’s the whole problem. They had some sort of vision but the vision sucked. That’s it.
@@yanavavWhat child actor on the show?
And this male gaze shit is dumb. Give some actual criticism.
@@Snow-xd4rv just look up child actor for the idol
honestly the whole show was just gross towards lily rose depp, always with skimpy dresses, being the only one fully naked, multiple times, multiple sex scenes. I can't wrap my head around how Lily read the script and didn't think "these guys definitely got some fantasies about me" and she feels proud of doing this show like wha-
well this wasn't the original show, it was gonna be something completely different until the weeknd decided there was too much "female perspective" and brought sam levinson on. the show was like 80% done before the director switch now we have this 😭
@@jordanne.anemone yeah and that means she had both scripts, I mean she already acted 80% of the first version, then she saw the downgrade and outright soft porn they were making instead and said hell ya 🥲
Based on the RollingStone article, a lot of the crew said that they wouldn’t even know what they were gonna film when they came into work. It was a ton of filming and refilming random stuff that Sam came up with. The Weeknd almost never wrote anything even though he’s listed as co-writter. One scene that Sam wanted to film and that Lilly Rose Depp was forced to carry an egg in her v**** and then if she dropped/cracked it The Weeknd wouldn’t r** her… and the only reason they didn’t film this scene was because the crew couldn’t figure out a way to do it without putting an egg in Lily Rose Depp. Yeah.
Basically Sam would write a lot of the scenes the night before filming. And even then, he would rewrite them constantly throughout.
@@Vicky-du6ni what the hell....
ngl i have never felt so vindicated in not liking sam levinson because of the whole "hes having people who are supposed to portray sophmores in high school getting naked and acting out sex and it just feels kinda weird and honestly not very nessecary save for maybe a few very key moments"in regards to euphoria and now everyone seeing what happens if u let him and just one other person into the writers room and everyone just MAD DUNKING ON IT
Sam did the same thing in Euphoria, he had a young woman, who was “fully in control”, accuse an older man of r*pe, i feel like in his future works he is gonna repeat that narrative and i truly believe he thinks that’s what happens in real life most of the times
i aint watched euphoria in a while- is this refering to maddie in the swimming pool or a dif scene?
@@no1inparticular487its prob maddy in pool
It was when Mandy lost her v card during a vacation with like a 40 yr old man and rue narrates that she’s in control. Like wtf!!!! SL actually needs help.
@@clatojackson5207 oh shit i had forotten about that jesus
@@clatojackson5207 yeah but rue is an unreliable narrator, I think it means that Maddy said she was in control but the full reality totally isnt that
I feel like they tried to make Jocelyn the manipulator “girlboss” at the last minute to make up for the terrible feedback they have been getting for how misogynistic the show is lol
it makes no sense because by doing this you are saying that the abuse she suffered was her fault and that men are the real victims. that's misogynistic as well.
@@michelcomenta that's the point. i think either way they're giving it a terrible message and making it look cool so it could be the show of the summer
The fact that it deviated so far from what the original was and its original director left 80% of the way in, and how it became the thing it was ultimately trying to satirize is definitely a modern television tragedy
Comparing it to Mamma Mia is making me think about if The Weeknd had his own jukebox musical and I just
The Weeknd's jukebox musical would take place in a dark, gritty strip club instead of Greece
I just hope that this shows how much female directors/writers are needed, especially when the protagonist and the plot revolves around a woman’s perspective. From the Rolling Stone article, it seems as if one of the original directors, Amy Seimetz, was basically strong armed by two highly influential and powerful men in the industry, The Weeknd and Sam Levinson, into stepping down due to the original version having “too much of a female perspective.” It seems as if people like to think that Hollywood and society as a whole does not have such a strong misogyny issue, especially after the MeToo movement, but this just proves how production companies, streaming services, and the entertainment industry continue to give men with not only a lack of technical skills for writing and directing, but also a lack of perspective, so many resources and positions of power, leading to horrific depictions of women and minority groups. The Idol is just a sad reminder of how bigotry continues to deeply permeate the entertainment industry.
You're completely right. The US still scores low compared to other Western countries on the Gender Equality index. Pair that with most production companies being controlled by older white men who benefit from perpetuating inequality, racism, etc, and you get piles of shit like this, with money and project opportunities given to less qualified, and often white men. Essentially this project is objectifying and punishing Jocelyn for being attractive, but sexually unavailable to the majority of straight men who only know/resonate with the male gaze.
The plot (what little there was) doesn't even matter.
Different types of inequality ensure their own survival through violence.
Women are more attractive and accessible with mental illness, and deserve abuse, rape, and violence because they're still somehow inherently bad and manipulative.
Yeah, we've never seen any of that messaging before....
Thanks, I hate it...
Or a writer who understands character development and can connect their empathy with a female character/perspective like Ari Aster has… like it’s annoying at this point that the entertainment industry is still hiring people who can’t write bearable scripts lol
@@micahcook2408 Definitely agree! Ari Aster in particular does a great job of writing complex, realistic women. More empathetic people who can actually write, please!
We truly were robbed of a good series. I wish we could have had some insight into Jocelyn's life. It would have provided a lot of context to her emotions, her feelings and her actions. The characters were stripped off of their humanity, which is why people had such a hard time empathising with any of them. The end makes it worse, because it takes such a half-baked misogynistic take on abuse, manipulation and rape. Quite the opposite of what it intended!
the sleep deprived college project mess analogy is just perfect lol
When I saw the ending scene with the “new brush” I thought that her mom did hit her, otherwise the scenes with Xander wouldn’t have made any sense. But my understanding was that she didn’t have that brush anymore so she just gave her new one to Tedros to hit her to get the motivation, etc because she just really wanted that.
tbf that makes a lot more sense
The visceral scream I let out when he got an artist pass from her. It was so silly of me to think that this show would’ve done something good for Jocelyn as a character
I actually thought that the new brush was representing Jocelyn accepting Tedros as her new abuser and new 'source of inspiration', after her mother, the old abuser, left her.
It took me watching reactions on yt to understand what the writers actually had in mind with that weird ass plot twist.. 🤦♀️
I always felt like there was something 'off' with the Weeknd and this series has solidified it in my head
The Weeknd is really TEDROS
Yeah his lyrics personify the kind of person he is. You can create a character for your music artistically but he has a career's worth of sexist, demeaning lyrics. Sure plenty of male artists call women bitches/sluts in their songs but why do we care now? I think this whole situation is just spitting our hypocrisy back at us.
Honestly they should get the first director back on the project and reshoot it according to the original vision to make up for this dumpster fire
.. and dumpster fire is putting it lightly …
I know only a handful of things about Selena Gomez because she’s been referenced in other video essays and even still knowing nearly nothing, at the end of the idol I had to slowly exhale to myself “this is bad”, with the weighty realization of knowing that underlined amongst all the reasons this was a failure of art, being another cliched creation of a bad breakup was paramount. I know that was a run-on. My bad. So utterly disappointing to see HBO and HBO money fail so spectacularly as well as a creative person like Levinson dance so close to evolving antiquated but elegant art like French new wave and allow his ego and false sense of grandeur to make him implode. These are the kinds of disappointments I find in art and also - in attempting to date men everyday. It is spectacularly foul. Bless you.
Your comment is so well-written, and I agree. Sometimes TV is not even aiming to do art, and this is what happens. Honestly is really disappointing.
ChatGPT ?
Very well said. It's almost as though corporations shouldn't just throw money at nepo fail-sons just because one kind of worked out for them... Looking at Elon Musk too...
I don’t understand the relevance to Selena? Where are you all getting this?
@@sezzyridge it’s broken down in the video and there have been articles out comparing Jocelyn to Selena and the weeknd connection
I watched The Truth Doctor’s breakdown of this show, and I agree with her take on the finale. The only way the hairbrush thing even kind of makes sense is if she just bought a new brush during the six week time jump. She was physically abused by her mother, but now she’s ready to start a new chapter.
exactly!!!

WELCOME TO THE COMMUNITY, you’re gonna love it here trust me
Omg literally me
Omg this is me
this is the 5th video about the idol i consumed so far and im not gonna stop
No offense to student film makers , but this has the feeling of a coke fueled independent film set where everyone thinks they’re making some deep art , but they’re just using the color red a lot
I think there’s a lot of connections to both Britney and Selena in Jocelyn’s character. I’m sure lots of others as well, but those are the two I see the most.
Personally I think The Weeknd took a lot of Inspo from not only Selena, but also Bella. Selena never was abused by her mom, but Bella was and probably still is. I don’t think Yolanda ever hit Bella, but she definitely manipulated her so she would be more successful. For example Yolanda allowed Bella to have a nose job at 14. And there are multiple clips of Yolanda showing unhealthy eating habits and dieting and also forcing that upon her daughters Also a lil side note: Bella and Abel started dating when Bella was 19 and he was 25/26.
The leaked photos of what we could have got is literally what everyone wanted like by the pics I can already tell it would have been a good storyline and would have had everyone positivity speaking about the series like we really got our Hannah Montana Britney Spears y2k show ripped away from us all for the weekend and Sam to make there Wattpad fantasies come to life
I saw a therapist review this & she offered the idea that the hairbrush beating did happen, but she didn’t keep the old brush specifically. As she didn’t need the memory tied to it, so same as your thinking! I think they’re trying to imply she lied cuz for her wicked smile moment. But I concur, it had no buildup, it’s kinda forced.
That aside, Jocelyn is seen frantically brushing her hair with this new brush throughout the episode, it seems to be a pacifying repetitive action to relieve her stress over her upcoming show. So it’s still something she needs, she just uses it on herself in her own (less violent) way.
It’s ultimately extremely confusing, and I think this show is a great example of abuse. It’s abuse of the audience by its creators, Sam & Abel. A pretty picture with a boring yet confusing yet shocking yet one-dimensional storyline & directorial style. A wasted opportunity with $75M that could have been used for far better things.
Fun fact: it’s not only filled with Abel’s music, but filmed in his house. Yeah, he’s taking it personally, given it’s a universally panned performance by him.
Too bad, but move on. Music is your best direction, Tesfaye. We can’t be good at everything. 🤷🏻♀️ or get acting lessons. You have the money.
I started hating Sam Levinson when he butchered Season 2 of Euphoria, then rewatching season 1 you realize how much he sexualizes everything and doesn't know how to WRITE so well. His ego is so big he refuses to get a writers room it seems. You can just see they thought they could come together and make something, without really thinking things through as a team, in a room, and consistently on the actual set. It's like when I have a good idea for a movie or show, and have some themes and ideas, but then I know I have to put in all my effort and brain power to really intricately put it all together to create a rich world and story that MAKES SENSE.
yes yes YES! omg i can relate to this so much!!! I loved Euphoria s1, I even defended when people said it was "too much" because the portrayal of drug addiction was so well done and the photography blah blah blah... but with that terrible second season and this terrible show I can see a lot of problematic things now, like Sydney Sweeney being naked all the time for *no reason* 😖
omfg YES i love S1 to this day and always will but imo it seemed like it was actually planned out before they started working on it vs, like you said, just coming together and hoping to make something good for S2. atp the idol is just euphoria s3 in disguise
i also heard that the cult aspect was meant to be a bigger part of it, like make more sense, like there was a scene where jecelyn gets inducted into the cult, because the way it's done here, it feels like the cult parts of the show are just a bunch of disconnected random things that happen, idk
i HATE how the idol is trying to be satire. like do you even know what satire is? like no, its not saterical, its just stupid 😭😭
well, it is known, that the Weeknd had this idea a long time ago, also it is known, that he struggled after their break up. So, my theory is that in the beginning he actually had some empathy for her (while he was still in love), but then all that he wanted was a revenge and to show everyone, that she just act like a victim (Selena is being accused in it multiple times on internet), but in reality a manipulator by herself. Seems like HBO spent 75 millions just for the Weeknd to show how offended he is (just like a little boy)
i thought the last episode was the most comedic and pathetic piece of television ever but i really want to know (especially after this whole press junket and marketing for the idol goes away) lily's, troye's, rachel's, moses' etc true feelings and experiences about this show especially as queer actors/singers working on a very cis heteronormative set/environment, like i low key just want to know if they felt safe cause i certainly didn't as a queer viewer
This whole entire comment is dumb, not even defending the show. And not all of them are queer. You just assumed that. Sexuality has nothing to do with this, and stop finding excuses to have hate boners for straight people.
THIS
Seeing the gay man subjected to electric shock was....deeply uncomfortable to say the least
the weeknd really thought he ate 💀 bro sounds like a sixth grader cussing for the first time
Like the entire series is a dumpster fire so there's no saving it, but the plot hole with Xander could have easily been tweaked where during his torture he was saying like "I didn't know what was happening" about Jos's mom and then have Jos screaming that he's a liar. If there was ever actually any forethought to painting her to be a master manipulator (which I doubt, so).
I hope Amy Seimetz gets to make her version of the show just to stick it to Sam and the Weekend that the world really does want more media from the female gaze. Especially after the Barbie movie was such a hit, Hollywood should take inspo and focus on things made by women for women.
10-20 years down the line we'll hear of this show, levinson & the weekend on true crime podcasts.
This feels like so many ‘actors (and actresses)’ who self-write their own…’scripts’….
sam levinson needs a writers room so fucking bad omfg he used the fake assault allegations as blackmail storyline in euphoria S1 like can you come up w something else????
TLDR: it seems like the weeknd wrote "like a God" and wanted to turn it into a show, so HBO plucked The Idol from the original director to give him is "mama mia moment"
Something super freaking weird that it doesnt seem like anyone is talking about (validly bc who would want to consume any extra The Idol footage) is how Chloe sings a song she wrote (but irl THE WORLD'S SWEATIEST MAN wrote it. i think Suzanna Son added her own flair and lyrics to it though) at the showcase about someone (male) being like a god and how he hurts you to give you forgiveness or to make you better or something. big "oh shit i am in a cult and i am starting to notice it now" energy, and it is really touching coming from Chloe after the conversation she and Destiny had!!! but THEN in the post-credits vanity montage, mr. rat tail sweat man is singing the song, using SHE/HER pronouns to describe the god figure......... so in case we were unsure of the ending, he really rubs it in that he, tedros, mauricio, sweat man, is the victim here you guyssssss. women lie and manipulate too!!! joss is evillllll
edit: looked up the weeknd's lyrics and there is the chorus with a male god but then it switches to being about a boy getting manipulated by a female god so it is very much like the plot and tedros = victim narrative
NO ONE. lol cause jocelyn was just this blank slate really. she was just an idea of a person. we never got to know her the way this all played out. even if it did not make sense, they just had to make her a villain no matter what so the weeknd could be the victim at the end... the messages of this show are so messed up in every way. i cannot get over how much they screwed up with this show.

Lmao exactly, this is like a badly written coho book with major plot holes using trauma as a plot twist but uh oh turns out she has no trauma, just mommy issues and she’s still mentally unstable although no worries, she’s only borderline psychotic and manipulative lmao what
Yoooo you are so on point with this whole video. I had the same thoughts watching this show.
I'm not gonna lie, your video speaking about this show was probably my favorite by far. as someone who was sorta indifferent about the show (i enjoyed the cinematography and occasional scenes of the show while also understanding the script/plot itself had a lot of holes and was not executed as well as it could've been) it was super frustrating hearing everyones opinions on social media especially from those who never actually watched it and were simply regurgitating what they had heard from someone else online or in an article. We can all agree that the show was not as great as any of us excepted but there are so many things that can be spoken on relating to this show that no one really talked about so i appreciate this take a lot.
Also the example of half assing a project to describe The Idol in a nutshell was SPOT ON 😭 had they actually kept the original team and had a writers room/more people involved this show rather than scrapping all the previous work done, it couldve been so great but it fell short on so many levels, The weekend definitely either sabotaged this show or was simply in over his head. I love some of the Weeknd songs but WTF does he know about television?. Still somewhat entertaining nonetheless!
this is the first video I've seen from your channel and I have to say, you are SO SOO pretty!!
I’ve been waiting for this one 🗣️
Okay the irony of “the song here isn’t that bad” is that it’s a cover of “Jealous Guy” which was written by John Lennon, a real life famous abusive music guy
Fully agree that poor writing is why the hairbrush scene and many others just don’t make sense. The Selena connection is disgusting. I’m all for writing your experiences with people in your life but this show sounds more like they wrote Selena’s story. It’s not from a pop star boyfriend’s perspective watching a partner suffer from mental illness and not being equipped to help. It’s about a woman being a master manipulator and the boyfriend/cult leader is just so “indescribably cool and smart actually even if he’s a bit cruel sometimes he’s just damaged .”
She’s backkkk
Bestie I just can't get over how cute your hair is
The analogy you made about pulling an all nighter for a presentation was absolute perfection
Refreshing your page constantly for this video 😭
The last episode made it seem like he was doing it all for love and she was using him when he literally abused her. Just another example of them turning things around on women and not owning up to men’s actions.
I will never get over how they made the weekend into the victim instead of her.
the song at the start of episode 4 is a cover, that’s probably why you liked it
Tastes don't work like that
@@Ooblivion533 what are you talking about
@@Sharletwitch musical tastes don't work like that. A song isn't good because it is a cover of a prior song. I checked the older version sung and written by John Lennon, and honestly it's not all that
I'm binge watching your videos after long gap honlisty your on my top five youtubers list 😅
omg i was just on ur channel thinking "man i wonder when shes gonna upload a new video" 😭😭
Euphoria from Coleen Hoover sounds so cursed, I want it
Side note at 13:28 I almost thought that was my cat, who is sitting directly next to me, because they have super similar colouring 🥹😻 your cat is so cute
The way I already knew this part 2 was coming after you saying you wouldn't finish the show
You are awesome nicole love your videos always interesting
Idol’s ending feels like what the Weekend wished happened with his relation with Selena Gomez. He wished she’d recognise him and his support through her bad days on stage in front of everyone. It’s his closure. The second I saw that last twist, this is what I thought of.
love your makeup, esp your blush
Omg thank you!!!! I had the same understanding of the hairbrush, thought she just got over it lmao
I"m not sure if you could watch the show in the usa but there's a show called I hate suzie which is similar show but without a lot sex scenes. it's about an actor who's phone got hacked and a photo (the photo is that she was sleeping with someone) was leaked from phone and posted online and all the news outlets are talking about the photo, and the first season is mainly about what is it like to be in that situation. it also impacts her family mainly between her husband and herself. generally all the seasons were really good (there are 3 seasons of I hate suzie).
i think leia doesn’t sleep on the floor bc she’s the outcast and she sees through tedros so he doesn’t bother trying to induct her into the cult. but troye sivan was approval seeking from tedros in the scene where they were talking outside so he’s an easier target.
leia seems naive but she’s smarter than most of the ppl on the show and more difficult to manipulate because she’s less narcissistic.
& the cult turning on him seems realistic, people like that will bow to whoever is most dominant bc they don’t think for themselves.
ya i wish hairbrush was explained better
Idk why people are going with the abuse was fake thing. It makes 0 sense as multiple characters confirm jocelyn's mom being in some way abusive. My two theories are either that she just got a new hairbrush to move on from her abuse or she just lied to tedros about the hairbrush being the exact same one her mom abused her with from the beginning and he was just too drunk to notice that it was new.
Abuse is lied about twice in this show, what the hell did they think they were doing???
No the abuse was REAL. At the moment he asks about rhe brush - and that evil smile she gives is bc she knows he's realizing that he's NOT the one who 'saved her,' She saved herself and used her experiences w him as inspiration
I think Jocelyn was in fact beaten by her mother, as both Xander and Leia corroborate, and I think that's not the original hairbrush. For me, the probability was high of trying to make a misogynistic ending that she was more manipulative, etc, on top of all the uninformed/lack of consent BDSM depicted.
She traded in her mother for another controlling abuser, and the Weeknd chose to play the character with no charisma or nuance....
wait i love this take omg. you’re literally a genius
@@assiv4k Omg, thank you!!
I DO like how kanye west is called out for who he is - never watched the show: just the reactions.. that’s the best line in the show
I HATE THIS your video got posted just as I was going to sleep and now idk what to do😭
I am such an euphoria hater but never really understood the exact reason why this show got to my nerves so much
The Idol pretty much sums up why
I despise every single thing Sam does
ive never heard or seen my name in the media and now with the idol im hearing it left and right
Ugh. Big Weeknd fan but refuse to lay eyes on this show, so thank you for the videos.
i watched the 1st ep and was like nope 🙃 gonna rely on other people's commentary vids instead lol thx nicole
Your cat is so cuuuuuute
