  • This is the first instalment of my dev log about making a history game. Since there are not that many dev logs about history games out there I thought it might be interesting ng to go through the process of making one.
The game is a very simple story adventure. The player is an archaeologist who while studying a small replica of the famous Athena gold and ivory statue that stood inside the Parthenon is magically transported to the 5th century BC acropolis. There they discover that they have ended up in the middle of a famous incident where the great sculptor Phidias is being accused of stealing the gold for the statue of Athena. The player's job is to help Phidias demonstrate to his accusers that all the gold is in its proper place.

Super interesting video as always Lida! Enjoyed the game! Only feedback is that sometimes the text changed too quickly (I'm a bit of a slow reader! :P)

Thank you! As I mentioned in the video when I first tested the game the length of the dialogue was a very clear problem and i had to cut parts of it and reduce the time the lines stayed on scene. And it is possible that i might have overcorrected a bit. There are some other ways of dealing with this like adding a "Next" button to progress the conversation but that comes with its own problems. For now, i just have the option for people to go through the dialogue again after it ends. that is not the best solution either but I think I will find how to deal with this eventually.

This is a very cool idea! I love the research that went into making the historical scenes as accurate as possible. I hope that you can expand this more in the future with different locations and time periods. Looking forward to seeing this project progress =)

Thank you! The project still needs a lot of work to get to its next phase since it will require an almost complete overhaul of what you have seen in the video. In any case, I will try to have a new dev log on it at some point when I have enough interesting material for it.

Thank you! I don't know if the channel will ever become popular. History games are a pretty niche subject. But I do love making these videos so you will see a lot more of them.
