  • Over the past two months, I've been creating politically intense videos. This week, I decided to switch things up and do something light-hearted. Since it's Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela's birthday tomorrow, I thought it would be fun to explore a quirky conspiracy theory that some South Africans believe: that he died in prison.

Mandela died in prison. He didn't serve 27 years there. He served 18 years and was taken away from Robben Island. That's where the "Asimbonanga" song started. For 9 years, his fellow comrades did not know where he was. It was Robert Sobukwe who spent 27 years.

I too been hearing this kind of story and the divorce with Winnie, imagine your wife waited for you for 27 years in prison when you come back you divorce? A true SAn wouldn't say "South Africa for all " after this whole tragedy of apartheid the black nation faced, that's why majority of the people are considering him as sellout they don't even participate on that "so cold " 67 minutes of the Mandela day

@@thulioctavia8868his a sellout. 😂Fw de klerk was the biggest supporter of apartheid he killed more of us than he could've helped and banned the parties who were fighting against apartheid all including the most biggest one anc, the only wsy they would of got the nation in control is by controlling anc so he frees Nelson and does exactly that to avoid resistance and rebellion of black ppl or he was afraid that all parties like communist party, PAC. And many more would have merged . I mean it's very easy they were many leaders including Winnie who fought more and were more dedicated some were killed or exiled or arrested but they were not given tribute and dedication but only the one who agreed with a apartheid supporter

People can't even comprehensively figure out that Mandela was an agent the real one of course our people forget this was a man who had multiple identities during his path of struggle. Only Agents who have multiple id's or passes due to the Agents use code names not real names... Secondly He was sentence for treason and that was punishable by death but he wasn't punished by death but life in Prision. Real Mandela visited London while he was in Prision in 1969 do we still allege he was killed still? In the 1970s there were journalists who had the impression that Mandela was not in Prison and they had to visit and saw that with their own and found the old man carrying a spade doing prison duties. Why Patrick Lekota now Mosuia Lekota said they saw Mandela far from their prision cells and stated that they were privileged more than them at the time? Real Mandela had multiple id's and passes but people can't figure out he was an agent. People are Busy with Gibson Makhanda whom was the alias of Mandela. Nothing makes sense about Mandelas history and family too but people are quick to premeditate this as he was killed in 1985 why at time but why not in 1964? Nothing makes sense about this ordeal concerning the real Mandela but people are so hypnotic about Gibson Makhanda because nothing makes sense at all about who Mandela was.

The quote *“If you remove colonialism physically without removing it epistemically, it will not disappear”* emphasizes that merely ending the physical presence or direct political control of colonial powers is not enough to truly eradicate the effects of colonialism.
    *Breaking down the quote:*
Physically removing colonialism refers to the end of direct control or occupation by colonial powers. This can mean gaining political independence and establishing a self-governing state.
Removing colonialism epistemically involves addressing and dismantling the deeper, more ingrained influences of colonialism on knowledge, culture, beliefs, and societal structures. Epistemic colonialism refers to the dominance of colonial perspectives and ways of thinking that continue to shape the minds and worldviews of people even after physical colonization has ended.
The quote suggests that if only the physical presence of colonialism is addressed, without also tackling the enduring intellectual and cultural influences, the legacy of colonialism will persist. This includes colonial attitudes, values, and structures that continue to affect the colonized society in terms of education, culture, and social norms. True decolonization, therefore, requires a profound and comprehensive transformation that also liberates the minds and cultural frameworks of formerly colonized peoples from colonial influences.
*concepts of coloniality-coloniality of power, coloniality of knowledge, and coloniality of being*
From the books: Decolonizing the University, Knowledge Systems and Disciplines in Africa, coedited with Siphamandla Zondi (Carolina Academic Press, 2016); and Epistemic Freedom in Africa: Deprovincialization and Decolonization
breake down the quote even further in more detals in a long write up
The quote *"If you remove colonialism physically without removing it epistemically, it will not disappear"* underscores the distinction between the visible, tangible aspects of colonialism and its deeper, more pervasive influence on knowledge, power, and being. This concept is central to the work of Sabelo Ndlovu-Gatsheni, a prominent scholar on *decolonization.* To understand this quote in depth, we can break it down using Ndlovu-Gatsheni's theories on coloniality of power, coloniality of knowledge, and coloniality of being, as well as his works on decolonizing the university and epistemic freedom in Africa.
    *Coloniality of Power*
Coloniality of power refers to the lingering effects of colonialism on social, political, and economic structures. Although formal colonial rule might end, the power dynamics established during that period often persist. These dynamics manifest in various ways, such as in the continued dominance of Western countries over former colonies through economic and political means, and in the internal hierarchies within post-colonial states that were shaped by colonial rule.
*Physical Removal of Colonialism:* When a country gains independence, it typically removes the physical presence of the colonizers-such as the colonial government and military. However, if the underlying power structures remain unchanged, the essence of colonialism persists. For example, post-colonial states might still rely on former colonial powers for economic aid or governance models, thereby maintaining a form of dependency.
*Epistemic Removal of Colonialism:* To truly eradicate colonialism, it is necessary to dismantle the power structures that were imposed and sustained by colonial rule. This involves creating new systems of governance, economy, and social organization that are rooted in indigenous knowledge and practices, rather than imported colonial models.
    *Coloniality of Knowledge*
Coloniality of knowledge refers to the dominance of Western ways of knowing and understanding the world, which were imposed during the colonial era and continue to overshadow indigenous knowledge systems. This dominance is perpetuated through educational institutions, media, and other channels of knowledge production and dissemination.
*Physical Removal of Colonialism:* This might involve decolonizing the curriculum in educational institutions by removing overtly colonial content. However, if the epistemological foundations-the ways in which knowledge is created, validated, and valued-remain unchanged, the colonial influence persists.
*Epistemic Removal of Colonialism:* Genuine decolonization of knowledge requires embracing and legitimizing indigenous knowledge systems. This means not only incorporating them into curricula but also rethinking the methodologies and epistemologies that have been dominated by Western paradigms. For instance, African philosophical and scientific traditions should be recognized and valued alongside Western ones.
    *Coloniality of Being*
Coloniality of being pertains to the ways in which colonialism has shaped identities and subjectivities. It involves the internalization of colonial attitudes and beliefs by both the colonizers and the colonized, affecting their sense of self and their relationships with others.
*Physical Removal of Colonialism:* Achieving political independence or changing national symbols and language can be seen as removing the physical manifestations of colonialism. However, if people's self-perceptions and interrelations remain influenced by colonial hierarchies and racism, coloniality endures.
*Epistemic Removal of Colonialism*: True decolonization of being requires a profound transformation in how individuals and communities perceive themselves and their place in the world. This involves challenging and overcoming internalized colonial attitudes and fostering a sense of identity and community that is rooted in indigenous cultures and histories.
*Decolonizing the University, Knowledge Systems, and Disciplines in Africa*
In the book Decolonizing the University, Knowledge Systems and Disciplines in Africa, co-edited with Siphamandla Zondi, Ndlovu-Gatsheni discusses how African universities can be spaces for genuine decolonization. This involves not only diversifying the content of what is taught but also changing how knowledge is produced and validated. Universities must recognize and integrate African epistemologies, which have often been marginalized or dismissed as inferior.
*Epistemic Freedom in Africa: Deprovincialization and Decolonization*
In Epistemic Freedom in Africa: Deprovincialization and Decolonization, Ndlovu-Gatsheni explores the idea of epistemic freedom as the ability of African peoples to define their own ways of knowing and being, free from the dominance of Western epistemologies. Deprovincialization involves rejecting the notion that Western knowledge is universal and recognizing the value of diverse epistemic traditions.
    *Synthesis*
Returning to the quote, it becomes clear that Ndlovu-Gatsheni is emphasizing that decolonization must go beyond mere political independence or superficial changes. It requires a deep, systemic transformation that addresses the coloniality of power, knowledge, and being. This involves rethinking and restructuring institutions, curricula, and identities to ensure that they are free from colonial influence and reflective of indigenous ways of knowing and being. Only by addressing these epistemic dimensions can the true legacy of colonialism be dismantled.

I don't claim to have been there, but seeing the scars on the bodies of my grandparents from apartheid, hearing their stories constantly, seeing how devastated they would get just by telling us the stories, hearing stories of how our parents would get treated because of their skin colour and adding everything I was taught at school about apartheid, I'd say I and the rest of the South Africans have a very clear image of the devastation apartheid caused...

The only parties who boycotted the talks were PAC and AZAPO on the far left and on the far right the conservative party and Herstigte Nasionale Party, plus Buthelezi on his personal capacity not the entire IFP. So, whatever agreement was reached it was because of these different groups finding common ground.
