Excellent interview: Refreshing to hear him explain how his painting becomes a way of exploring and showing his thoughts on events, politics and society. Lucid thinker and talker as well as a wonderful painter. Thanks for sharing.
I really enjoyed what Daniel had to say, I think that he is such a good observer of the world. However, I really am commenting to say "Thank You" Louisiana Channel for putting some great content on youtube, here and elsewhere. Greetings from Winnipeg.
Great definition of the consciousness of his personal involvement in a work art and what keeps it being truthful art and not a museum piece. 20:00 - 21:30.
He says "the whole thing tranforms in something which is about you. Which is necerssarilly *laughs* not necessarily interesting." He was right that it is the part of the painting that is intersting not because of the subject but because human beings sense authenticity and relate to it extremely well.
Thank you for sharing this interview, not only he is a talented artist but a lucid man too. Delighted to listen to his English pronunciation, my native language is Spanish but I had no difficulty in understanding him.
To express themselves is not easy as painting your thoughts is a very personal process. He is very interesting to listen to and one feels his ideas are very deep.
I think Richter is an honest painter. No fluff here. No referencing odd philosopher's text here to sound "deep." He's a cool painter. This interviewer asked such weird questions though. "Are you a German painter?" No he's a Spanish painter.
"Are you a German painter?" is a question about how he fits in to the German art tradition and to the nation and society as a whole. Does he feel like he is representing Germany in his art? And so on. It's a very open question and a good one to ask.
Finally an honest painter who says "Art is the easiest thing to do. You only need a brain and hands". DR is not like the other Richter who keeps doing the same thing with different colors, over-and-over again.
He didn't exactly say that, he said "painting is the easiest thing to do", and in my opinion it was in terms of equipment, money, supplies. Art is really hard I think.
Mr. Daniel Richter is painter's painter who excels at inventing analogies to connect his network of ideas to describe hitherto unheard of in the Lexicon of Modern Art Manuals. Mr. Richter has won his place in the galleries of the world. It appears that Artists, Artisans, Craftsmen of the bygone eras experienced cultural resistance by way of appreciation of their style, nuances and uniqueness whose artwork fetched high prices after they departed this world. Van Gough was hard done by in his life time. Wonder if Mr. Richter has to comply with cultural norms of Germany, if any?
I like the quote at the end, but I am not sure I totally understand - "Painting is the promise of a lived life, unlived" Any guesses on what he is saying here?
Thx for interview & sharing. i 'd say : An Artist wants & enjoys sharing his/her/ free gender " Richness of Life " with the others. Some recieve those with grattitude, Some are, let´ say : Not ready for it at the time, whatever the reasons, so they simply don´t get it. Well done & keep on going strong🍻
Or, rather, the artist is the sponge! I like his realistic approach. He talks about art like Bacon or Beksinski. His work expresses a lot of self conflicting ideals in a "fun" way. Definitely wears his style on his sleeve. "Only when you do the work you find out what person you are"
Lol i could tell how his intelligence and verbal coherence is in a different sphere of the the catchphrase interviewer. How does the outside relate. What a stupid question.
The fame and mild inscrutability of German painter Gerhard Richter casts a somewhat neutralizing pall over this guy as a units-moving commodity, but he does seem like a nice person.
Seriously he is one of the most coherent and self aware paiters ive heard
in what way specifically do you mean?
I agree
Agree.
Always jealous of painters. So much time to think. :)
@@Paulcvids lol
What he says is the most realistic and understandable painter's story I've ever heard!! Finally an interview I can't skip.

I quote: 'Life cannot be just about reproduction and buying cars'. Thumbs up!!
It is certainly about one of those things!
Yes! This stood out to me too.
Great interview with a great artist, very entertaining & enlightening, thank you so much..

This channel is a gem, gracias! ... great painter
Favourite interview. No bullshit things in the air. He’s real.
I could listen to Daniel for hours...so eloquent, rational and irreverent.
To express themselves is not easy as painting your thoughts is a very personal process. He is very interesting to listen to and one feels his ideas are very deep.
A great expressionists painter and philosopher Good man Love your work
This Guy is a good one !! Nice to see true artist acknowleged !
I think Richter is an honest painter. No fluff here. No referencing odd philosopher's text here to sound "deep." He's a cool painter. This interviewer asked such weird questions though. "Are you a German painter?" No he's a Spanish painter.
Bana Nana actually that's a good question, because an artist is an international figure.
I agree!! The only fluff and drama here was sitting through the B.S. over dramatized first 50 seconds.
"Are you a German painter?" is a question about how he fits in to the German art tradition and to the nation and society as a whole. Does he feel like he is representing Germany in his art? And so on. It's a very open question and a good one to ask.
Auriflamme I agree it is a good question and Daniel R as a person is very stereotypically “German” which I thought was interesting.
Excellent interview. Really interesting.
what a fantastic interview, very coherent and aware
I appreciate the way he feels art
Very interesting seeing him talk about Fukuyamas end of history would not have thought that he that well-read.
Finally an honest painter who says "Art is the easiest thing to do. You only need a brain and hands". DR is not like the other Richter who keeps doing the same thing with different colors, over-and-over again.

This man went out to search for the truth! Thank you for the interview Lc..
Very well observed Daniel.
I love how he self analyses himself... Do German people generally say how it is? It is so refreshing...
Very well observed. That was honest to the core.
Music around 13:40 ?
I like the quote at the end, but I am not sure I totally understand - "Painting is the promise of a lived life, unlived" Any guesses on what he is saying here?
one of the best conversations without b.s. no adornment but profound honest* thinker...some people don't see the genius
Someone said: When i paint I don't need to talk, and when I cant paint I start to talk again.
Beautiful painter
13:30
what song is this?

"painting is like shoplifting" - love it
love his art, understand his art and he is on the right path. He sees clearly. And fortunately my opinion should be dismissed.
Interesting painter. He mixes colours in interesting way.

I adore Daniel Richter!. ....
Quoting 20:40, a lot. Never kept distance!!
Lol i could tell how his intelligence and verbal coherence is in a different sphere of the the catchphrase interviewer. How does the outside relate. What a stupid question.

"Life cannot only be about Reproduction and selling Cars"
Nice guy 👆
This is the most un quotable interview ever
"You cant not be an idiot if you feel that you have to say something about everything... this puts me in a hard place."
Very good painter and his facial expressions are fucking hilarious!
The begging of the interview is interesting
The fame and mild inscrutability of German painter Gerhard Richter casts a somewhat neutralizing pall over this guy as a units-moving commodity, but he does seem like a nice person.
It better had been in german his mother tongue. It is better he speaks his own language and there is a very good translation in the subtext.
Rainer Winkler brought me here.
That bell !
Life can't just be just reproduction and buying cars. :)
doig influenced?
IT DIDNT STAY BORING
eeeey mallah

He doesn’t want to look like a German painter? Physically?
... Yes.
No, he explains that..he. says i don't mean my face.. he refers to his work
That face is burning a hole into Daniel Richter's intense being.
What is this dude even talking about? He plays his own devils advocate like wtf he totally contradicts him self
SPONGE !!!
You are the sponge.
