I’ve recently started watching trucking videos because I’m interested in the profession. This video is one of the best ones I’ve seen. Your explanation of things is easy to follow, very informative, and it’s like having a chat with a mate. You’re like the Fred Dibnah of the trucking world! I’m really looking forward to watching your other videos.
I know who you’re talking about and I agree 100% with everything you’ve said I fully agree on, He’s only doing the videos “to be famous” .. He needs to focus more on the driving than creating videos Absolutley waffling on about shit for 30 minutes and trying to change the HGV world. If he wants to go home every night he needs to get a day shift role
Im going to do my class 1 in the new year im 51 in January and like you i wanted to do this job in 2010 i was a taxi driver but i had an operation which ended badley and kept me out of work untill 2019 ive been a self employed courier since then and tramping it was very uncomfortable sleeping in a van but loved it i love my own company and in 4 years ive built up a great contact book and i could do my class 1 and get some experience working for someone but thats not me im buying a lorry and going to be an owner driver so i can pick and choose how often i stay out the thought of being at someones comand is not for me.
Similar experience. At 55 years old did my test in 2019 after years in retail. Agency work on class 2 doing the "crap" but gaining experience with ideas of using my class 1 . Now in a well paid class 2 job as I realised during the first year tramping wasn't for me and I actually like the physical activity of class 2 to keep me fit from just sitting there. Of course some days it's groundhog day ( same road / same traffic / same other road users ) but then I listen to a podcast or football on the radio and think "I'm getting paid for this ". 👍
Nailed it here that is the bottom line for sure - Stay out all week and get your Deliveries done and bring the Truck and trailer back to the depot with no damage ...
The thing that makes you so sensible and grounded was your time in the army. "The habit of obedience." I think your driving is splendid. There are some truck drivers who just bully their way through traffic. It is no surprise that some car drivers hate trucks. The problem really is over-crowded roads. 😁
Just found this Vlog in recommendations. I'm a PCV driver for a large public service bus company and i've worked for this company for 26 years and 6 months. We work unsociable hours but get drivers moaning about everything about the job. We have a selection of rota's to accommodate most drivers and they still complain. I stuck with the same rota for 23 years and just fancied a change so went on a different rota. I enjoy the present rota as it suits me as a single man. I'm up at 02:30am some weeks and get paid up to 01:10am on other weeks. Yes you have bad weeks and very rarely have good days. Some drivers left to go HGV class one driving and some came back driving service buses. At least us service bus drivers get home every night and get our buses dieseled up. We get moaning passengers, road rages etc but it's a job. It's a case of managing stress and how you cope, i've made a few mistakes in the past to keep to time but now i'm much wiser and don't take any chances. If you don't like the job try and adapt or get another job "simples"
As someone who is preparing for their practical test soon, your videos are extremely helpful with your little drive commenting about mirrors, swing etc. thanks so much
I was on tramping for over 30 years ,absolutely loved it,but I wouldn’t want to do it now,to many idiots on the roads to many pathetic regulations, and I can’t stand automatic gearbox’s!
I’m a driver of 24 years and 90% tramping and yours is one of the best I’ve come across, 50grand man is a poor advert for our industry who will cause some serious damage sooner rather than later . In all my years the job of tramping has not changed he will be an old man still waiting on change if he’s still in the industry which I doubt very much. No disrespect to him but if I had to double man with him for any reason, he’d be left at the first services. You start when you start and finish when you finish is the first thing to take on board. But for all the ups and downs you know early doors if it’s for you or not, don’t come in thinking you can change it your flogging a dead horse. It takes a special breed because we all know what it entails, I Fukin love it
During the pandemic the media sold the job with a £50000 a year salary, what they didn't say was for 70 hours a week now we have a generation coming in expecting £50000 for 8 hours a day 5 days a week
True. You have to do the hours to get the top wages. Plus, it's on specialist jobs. I was in the industry 35 years. Left it now because I was sick of the road and other motorists. The roads have been busier in the last 10 years. Learn the job if you want to do the long hours.
Another great vid Barry lad, you just keep doing what you're doing because its ace. Another very good drive, competent, professional, and progressive. Yes,with your attitude, you could get into driver training. Definitely something to think about for the future.(Should you want to).
I agree with you about the UA-camrs whose main aim is to stop working and make it their full time occupation. When the thing that got people's attention was following them do their job or hobby in the first place. At that point they're no longer doing it for fun, or to be helpful or constructive, but having to create content for the sake of it, to keep the algorithm fed. You can see the change in them, then they start moaning about how much of their time this thing that they thought would be so amazing is now taking up. Not all of them obviously, but definitely some.
I've got 1 question as wasnt sure if you enjoy the job barry?🤔🤣🤣👍all serious love you're content and you're sese of humour and you being you is why you're gaining subscribers 👍
Very sensible views there. Been watching a few of your videos now and really enjoy them. I've always fancied this job, but have managed to get better money working in an office. I'm about the same age as you, so interesting the hear you only got into it recently. Do you reckon it would be too late to train to drive an HGV for someone already in their 50s? Anyway all the best, thanks for sharing your experiences.
Some people love tramping, Don't know why personally never liked sleeping in the cab on the few occasions I did I found it noisy uncomfortable cramped but the worst thing is the facilities or lack of the service areas are appalling and expensive a lot of firms don't pay for drivers overnight parking just give them a paltry £30 and expect them to park in laybys with other lorries thundering past all night no certainly not for me, trunking suits me your home every night the pay is better than tramping or just as good and you don't have the worry of where you will have to park for the night
Barry many years ago when I tooky advanced driving test the police examiner said if I need to indicate on a motorway then there isn't enough gap to come in or go out on lane.😊
Those complaining about the hours & wanting to get home. Imagine them doing european work & getting delayed on a pick up or drop off & missing their ferry/train back to the UK, or the ferry cancelled due to the weather. They should maybe read their contract before signing it & accepting the job & if they don't agree with it, should maybe look to doing some other job.
Yea fair point tbh mate, although in fairness there are people like me who decided to give it a go knowing about nights outs and then finding it's not for you. Never know til you try but yes agree that if its not for you then stop moaning or get out :)
I look at it like this, your paided to visit our beautiful country.. my favourite run is up to Scotland around Shap / Beattock😍 and the Road from Abington to Edinburgh looking at the snow capped hills….
So many these days want the money but dont want to work for it , they only thing that attracts them is making videos for 'likes / clicks and look at me and i get money sad world. You genuine say it like it is. X
About bang on the money as usual Bazza 👍. To be fair mate i reckon you'd make a cracking driving instructor should you ever fancy it. We'd have a lot better standard of incoming drivers if they were taught by folk like yourself.
Hi Just wondering how old you if you been driving class one the last 4 years. Reason i ask is that i am just trying to achoeve my class 1 and i am 44. End goal for me is to drive for the company which i have been employed with for the last 23 years driving 7.5 vehicles and then maybe move to class 1.
Those sherbet dabs are quite heavy you’ll know you’ve got them on going to Scotland . When are you getting your new super scania Barry the new retarder is better and those 10 horses do make a difference . i been looking for my £1000.00 a week take home but haven’t found it yet . Is one taking about chilly the five minute driver
I did see the video that you mentioned and I do subscribe and watch his VLOGS out of interest for the trade, but I do agree with you and I clicked off after 50% of the VLOG.
Hello everyone ! I also like to be a Long hual truck driver i dont hv any driving experience AS A TRUCKER bt i do hv normal car driving licence! Is there Any COMPANY WHO WL HIRE N BRING ME TO THEIR NATIVE COUNTRY N GIVE ME A TRUCK DRIVER JOB ? if any body hv any information plz 🙏 do share
Great video barry lad, is this utuber young, a lot of them have this attitude, they take a job and then moan like hell, I have found this attitude is common, not just in trucking, but in other jobs as well don't seem to want to serve their time to anything
Job would suit me down to the ground if didn't have my little dog. I don't have any family and I would love living on the road. Make my money for the next 7 years, retire and travel, see more of the world.
People do it because it's the easiest job you will ever get. Sitting on your arse for long hours.nice and warm. No heavy lifting anything much. And it's up to you how long you drive in a shift. Easy as ya like
Some parts of the job are easy. There are some companies that have you unloading your trailor. I did jobs where I did loads for aldi and lidl. All self tip. Plus, I did loads of wheelie bins. All self load and self tip them. So no, it's not all sitting on your arse all day. I was in the job for 35 years.
OK. Maybe not in your opion. You try pushing 60 stacks of wheelie bins on a truck. Drive 20 mins and unload them yourself. The repeat the process 3 more time. The wheelie bins were stacked 12 to 14 high. You kept fit that day. But upto you.

Great video, enjoyed riding along and the traffic commentary.
Nice chat mate .. nice to be travelling with you in the sunshine for a change 😂

That's true is that
70 hours? For me it was more like 80-90 hour weeks on a 6 day tramp and even then 50k is very optimistic for a driver in Manchester

Got to agree with you but some of the younger generation today think they shouldn't have to work and deserve every thing on a plate. Keep on trucking.
Too true, don't know what's gone wrong with this generation, don't want work, or take advise off more experienced people
