@David Taylor The RIFLES. They haven't been the Light Infantry since 2007. They were formed as an amalgamation of the LI, RGJ, RGBW, D&D, Rifle Volunteers (TA) and the London Regiment (TA) as part of the Future Army Structure. The old Light Infantry makes up 3 Bn (2 LI) and 5 Bn (1 LI) of the RIFLES.
How come it's mixed regiments you've got Scottish Irish Welsh and English regiments is this new because when I joined in 1988 recruits passed out in respective depots for instance I was in the Irish guards so we trained and passed out at pirbright. My brother the king' s Regiment at strensall.with was the king' s Division headquarters . But was this a regular or reserve passing out parade either way not up to 1980s standard.
The Army has shrunk so much that it's not possible to have regimental nor divisional depots to do recruit training. Even then, as you can see with an ITC, the intake and passing out numbers are small. The British Army must expand to well over 100000 personnel. Trouble is brewing in East Europe, and there may be a war in Asia. There's a need to rebuild lost capability and numbers.
@@rashidahmad7830 they won't get the recruits now if war broke out, the millennial generation don't want work or war. They would have to bring back national service.
Shoes for No.2 Dress , now known as Future Army Dress (FAD) were brought in about 10 years ago now. The FAD is horrible looking, cheap material and difficult to tailor. Glad I did my full service and got out! It’s a different army in so many ways, not necessarily bad but not for me now! But we’ll done to all those on parade, they still step forward to take the Queens shilling 😊
Does anyone know if there's any females that passed out yet as guardsman? Joining up waiting for my assessment in two weeks time then if I pass I'll get my start date.
Thank goodness there were some of Gods Chosen Few of the Royal Irish there to give a bit of flash, dash and panache to the parade. They're the ones with the rakishly suave head dress with a green hackle and the stylish black buff belts.
Well at least they still carry over some of the traditions of the old Irish Rifles regiments, hence the rifle green trousers and black belt, should have come over to the Borg. ...er I mean Rifles!😉
Different dress of the soldiers makes it appear to be not as polished.whereas the squad, troop, platoon in identical uniform gives a more articulate application
They march at 140 paces to the minute with rifles at the trail. The rest of the Army marches at 120 paces. They also March. It's a jog, actually. They were the Light Division who moved fast.
In the 1950's the Light Infantry, one of the forerunner regiments of the Rifles, had their own drill which included quick March @ 140 paces to the minute instead of the standard 120 (as illustrated on the film) and double march in lieu of slow march. As it is impossible to double March with a rifle at the slope, rifles were carried at the Trail which made fixed bayonets impractical, not least to the man in front. When I did a Guards run drill course I had to learn Fix Bayonets as a drill move as well as slope arms etc. Also to slow everything down to the ponderous "wooden top" speed!
Goes back to 1800's 60th Royal Americans & 95th Rifles - at the trail more practical when moving in skirmishing open order plus when moving through forested areas and broken ground. The early Baker rifle had a long sword bayonet and left in scabbard until needed, to this day bayonets are referred to as swords in rifle regiments.
Some regiments have different caps, and SNCOs wear a type of forage cap for SNCOs (Senior Non-Commissioned Officers) and I also saw the Rifles, a light infantry unit, which they march at a more quicker pace than the other regiments
Is a kilt the scots wear it is a Scottish tradition and the reason they all have different caps/ cap badges is because their all different Regiments, every tribe has its own cap/beret.
No matter how awful they looked everybody should be proud of them, I’m lucky to go in a couple of weeks to see the pass out, but still they and everyone should be proud
First time to see this and sad to say the Rifles were terrible. Bugler did too many poor notes. Troops out of step, the double was a disgrace, even the present arms was messed up by a couple in the front tank. Poor show down to the permanent staff.
Nice to see the Rifles carrying on the old Green Jacket tradition, in that drill was something the Guards and redcoats did well, there being more important things than ponsing around the drill square. Like being a thinking rifleman, more than a drill machine.
@@tonycooper633 the household division still holds more battle honours that another division so basically they can march properly and look good on the drill square and they get the job done in the field
