One thing you didnt mention was that Peter Thiel is the largest shareholder. I dont think USG will just "pull out" of giving a company like blacksky contracts. USG needs these types of businesses to stay alive and innovating to stay ahead for military purposes. I agree it is a risky play. But how risky is it really now at a $170m valuation? Easy 10x from these levels
Without telling people what percentage of Peter Thiel's wealth is tied up in this tiny company, that information is useless. We delete "easy 10X" comments around here btw, and you need to differentiate between size and valuation. The smaller a company, the more risky it becomes. Valuation is different, and yes, this is cheaply valued with a simple valuation ratio of 2. Still, wouldn't touch it for reasons mentioned in this video. Also, keep an eye on their cash.
Excellent analysis. I have been looking at BKSY and a few other PLTR invested companies. This does give me some pause. I see why it's always best to have a bull and bear case for every stock.
Thank you very much for the kind words. The ratio of bull cases to bear cases seems abnormally high when you consider how risky the market is these days.
We previously published a piece on Planet Lab you may find of interest here: ua-cam.com/video/bent-aln-QQ/v-deo.html After watching that piece, you'll see why we prefer Planet Labs over BlackSky for any number of reasons. At some point in the future we may look to compare all geospatial intelligence providers in a single presentation. Thank you for the comment!
Their cash was depleted due to the fact that they added 8 new satellites to their original constellation of 6, not their normal burn rate. It’s trading near book value, which is unheard of for saas
From our research piece: Unlike other geospatial intelligence companies we’ve looked at, BlackSky does not operate as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform should. Firstly, they say a majority of customer contracts may be terminated by the customer at any time for convenience. Proper SaaS companies use fixed-term contracts measured in years which result in a steady stream of predictable recurring revenues. 83% of the space company’s revenues are derived from the U.S. government and various federal agencies. That’s a big red flag for us due to the nature of doing business with the federal government. They’re not structured like a typical SaaS company, and the U.S. government has them by the cojones. Too small, too risky for our liking.
@Nanalyze I am a investor bksy is just one of my trades I know it is speculative and risky overall I like the idea and business and yes I went overboard 25% of my portfolio and looking to keep adding on the way down even today at 2.26 I know the market is focused on other things right now so I'll keep getting this at a discount
@@ramseyrosario3126 We would suggest never investing more than 10% of your portfolio in any single stock. And most financial advisors (we're not financial advisors) would suggest that the optimal percentage be far lower than that. It's all about mitigating company-specific risk.
Thank you for the video. Just to share, I have a speculative deep in the money call option ending in Jan 2024 which I paid 450 dollars..now worth 50 dollars..I'd just like to take the opportunity to say..TO THE MOON 🚀
You'll have more fun speculating with your money at a casino. Or you can just get two high-class hookers and a gram of coke instead. At least then you'll have an interesting story to tell after blowing $450 ;) Hopefully your pot of gold is at the end of the rainbow mate!
Keep your eye on the horizon which should be a decade down the road. Tech stocks are extremely volatile and you'll drive yourself nuts focusing on short-term movements.

Maaaan I'm all in all bksy 🤣🤣 looking for a ROI in the short team,, let's see how 2022 does
Sounds like you're speculating. Be an investor, not a speculator. Have a long-term horizon and you'll fare much better.
