  • Learn What Makes One 1907 Card Worth $1 and the Next Worth $100...
I had the good fortune to get a collection of Golden Age of Postcards this week, from the age when early offset lithography was used by leading artists to make beautiful examples for every holiday and novelty. Join me to see several dozen examples, and discover how these lovely mini-portraits came to be a huge worldwide mania just before WWI.
Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving and all other major holidays are illustrated by this great collection of vintage postcards, along with humor and novelty cards, postmarks, stamps and correspondence. I'll explain what I look for as a reseller, and help you know what names are important in early postcards, how they were made so elegantly and why people love them today!

I must agree. This presentation was a great opportunity to learn about the "Golden Age" of postcards. I will likely watch it a second time. The history is fascinating.

That’s so interesting about the cats not being around and the rats taking over making the plague spread. I love postcards and have a small collection of all of the Holiday ones. My favorites are when they have correspondence and postage date. Thanks for this video!

George, your knowledge is incredible. You need to be teaching history of the arts in many fields. The post cards brought back so many memories. My Aunts, Ethel and Edna, saved and shared so many of their parents and relatives collectables. They shared so many of those things with me. I am fortunate to have some of those post cards. I also have postcards from their Aunts trip around the world . I'm trying to get up to date on all of your videos, seeing I'm a new subscriber. Thanks for sharing what you know. People like you make this world a happier place!

I'm only 13 minutes in so far but I already had to stop and write. 1) your knowledge about not just the postcards, but even the little side topics you touch, is incredibly impressive and I'm fascinated by all that you share with us. 2) Just a random note about the Black Plague because I am fascinated with it so much (I even have a plague doctor tattoo on one of my arms). I always knew that rats and the fleas from the rats were the cause of the Black Plague, but I never knew it was because people were killing off all the black cats due to superstition and hence the overpopulation of rats. So neat learning! 3) as always, your editing and direct presentation of knowledge is top notch! I hope your channel continues to grow and I also enjoy the pictures you add in your videos. :)
Lastly I did sort of chuckle at the smile you gave around 12:08 when you just got done saying that a lot of homes got burned down around Christmas time due to their use of real candles on the trees. 😂 my warped humor there... your smirk was everything.
Anyhoo! You're doing awesome :) keep at it!

I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I don’t usually have a lot of one thing to share so it was a labor of love. I’ll look for that tat when I see your next video. I share your taste in black humor, I’m one of those mild mannered looking guys with a dark sense of humor and a limited tolerance for dumb behavior... my favorite card was the one where they’re holding the baby over the fireplace to throw the note into it, that’d be a call to CPS for sure these days

Hi - I have just started watching your videos, and came upon this one about postcards from 3 years ago. Thank you for all the great information as I have my great aunt’s collection from about 1909-1915. You have sparked interest for me to start looking for postcards from that era to add to my collection. I have 50 cards or more, and my favorites are the two that have fabric on the front with some beautiful embroidery. The postcards themselves became my start to genealogy back in 2005 on the family and the names on these cards helped a great deal! I really appreciate hearing more of the history of the cards in your video! Am loving all your videos so far too! LauraG

Hey George! Kaci The Vintage Collecting Lady here (I have 2 channels this is my other one)
I love collecting postcards! 😍 Just a fun fact I wanted to share with you about Washington's birthday and Lincoln's birthday.
Get this...I was born on Washington's birthday...and my son was born on Lincoln's birthday!!!! Isn't that unique!?!?
(We also had the exact same due date 30 years apart of course but both of us were due on Feb 20th. My mother didn't give birth to me until the 22nd. And with my son, I had to be induced a week early on the 12th due to high blood pressure in a very high risk pregnancy! But I am so grateful and so blessed to have my son!)
When I was a little girl I always used to say because I was born on Washington's birthday and he was the 1st President that I would be the 1st woman President lol 🙂 The things we say as kids 😂
I loved the video George! I always watch yours when I get some time! Take Care! 🙂

Oh my word, thank you! This was the information I was looking for. A decade ago, I inherited a Golden Era collection (I believe some pre-1900) that had been personally collected by a young lady and relative. There are about 300 of them - almost all addressed to her. I rescued them from a broken, crumbling album in a paper bag (the librarian in me shivered at the thought of them in all that acid!) and put them into acid-free single sleeves. They're in good condition to me, but that's an unlearned opinion. ;) The 300-odd collection is now stored in a wooden shoe box. But I recognize so many of the images you held! It's been a few years since I last flipped through them. This will motivate me to finally open storage boxes from the move and get out beloved things like this box. I can't wait to look through them anew! :)
