My boss is starting to teach me how to screen print next week(I do embroidery, digital printing and some office stuff right now) so this video was super nice. I know bits and pieces of the process so it was nice seeing it all put together! Thanks!:)

Thank you for the instructional videos. I just bought all of my parents neighbors screen printing equipment including all of his sublimation equipment. He ran his business out of his home for 35 years. Anyways I worked with him for a few weeks plus he is going to help me for the next year at my shop. Channels like yours are a huge help to me as I learn the basics. I hope that this coming summer to open up my own shop. Thanks again, excuse me as I go watch the rest of your videos

Great video, thanks for taking the time to help us understand the process. The spot color was something new to me. I'll definitely do that going forward when I send creative to our vendor. Some feedback for you, the level on your background music track is a bit high so at times it's difficult to hear the instruction. All in all, a great video, thank you.

We had the films already printed and i just brushed over how to send us files. This was more for our clients who didn't know anything about the screen printing process. Once colors are in spot, they separate out pretty easily in Indesign printer settings. And to answer your other question, Vastex 2000hd 6/6 and we have a 4/4

Do most screen print shops retain the screen of their design or is it washed and discarded for the next design? Once the screens are created, that is the hard part right? From my inexperience it looks so...

@rochelle Renee, This was just as short video to show people who don't screen print what the process is like. We have a dark room we store screens squeegee side up. There's so many variables with what kind of exposure unit, mesh count, type of emulsion etc. Best way to know your exposure time is use a test strip. Flash drying is just so wet ink doesn't stick to back of screen, about 5 secs. Hope that answers some of your questions.

Can someone tell me the quality difference between this method and using a printer with full range color printing and a heat press? Is this for bulk order processing? I feel like these 8-12 screen printing presses are too limited on color. I'm thinking about getting a home unit to make some swag for my channel and am confused as to what I should be considering.

curious is the water proof film a special type of printer paper or can you uses regular multipurpose paper. And is there a solution for laser printers if you don't have an inkjet? Also for the vaccum developing press what is it can you uses a regular uv lamp or florescence lamp? As i have the photoresist chemicals and screen printing ink but i am just trying to figure out how to print and develop the design on my mesh. I can develop the graphics design in software fine the issue is printing out the design and developing it. At the point of washing it down is the part i can do and beyond.

We've never had a screen expose by leaving out prior the exposing. Granted, they are never out longer than a minute because im pretty quick about getting them lined up and in the exposure unit. May depend on type of emulsion you use but ours has to have that UV black light to properly expose

    Hi,
Thank for the tips... Didn't see the emulsion step, how to know the exposure time, the light source step or how to store screens to dry emulsion.
Do you have to use a darkroom to apply the emulsion... ?
    What type of light bulb...?
How do you know how long to flash dry ...?
How do you know how long to expose...?
    Love,
    Rochelle

  • @youreinvitedTV
    @youreinvitedTV 9 років тому +3

I noticed after you did the emulsion you washed the screen off in the light, a lot of other sites/videos say that you should do this while still in a dark room... is that not the case? I am new at this and want to make sure I don't ruin a screen or make any mistakes. Thanks!

It seems the screens you used where already prepared with photoresist and you just used the machine and washed them. I do have to say i like your tricks on lineing everything up and the washing part seems to be a regular nozzle no special pressure washer need.

can i get a 4 color 2 station (one station) press for less than a grand? is that too much in the hobbyist realm for your experience. just doing small run band shirts. was also thinking of ,maybe making a press with hinge claps as most of the work will only be 2 color. thoughts. all the shirts will be soft hand H2O soluble inks if that matters.
additional question ... do you have much experience with H2O inks ... would you still flash 'em? seems i should though i haven't in the past.
also what printer and film do you use? i really doubt i will print out like you do but i may investigate.

    • @fourambition
      @fourambition  10 років тому

yes, anything is doable! We started on a homemade press years ago. Flashing all depends on the ink and shirt color if its required but you can get a soft vintage feel without flashing. Our film printer is an epson 1200 from silkscreeningsupplies.com

This might be a stupid question, but what type of PPI is the best for this type of screen printing? Also, do you know of a good way to print the image out if you don't have the printer that you have (not the silk screen but the printer used to print out the illustrator image)?

    • @fourambition

You must use some kind of transparency when exposing your screens and a good quality inkjet film printer should be used. If its a diazo emulsion, you can get away with laser transparencies.

I have a couple of questions:
    1. Does the material of the shirts have to be polyester o can it be silks or cotton?
    2. what is the ink made out off?
    3. Do you have to wash the shirt when you finish the process of screen printing?
    4. How long does the screen printed design stays in the shirt?
    5. what is more economic to do screen printing or digital printing?

This video is the most helpful I've found after days of searching, few questions bro, I really don't know much of this so Im probably going to sound stupid. The screen you use, it looks like just a frame and glass, also has a green material over it or idk if thats just the color of the glass/screen. My question is where do I obtain one of those, do they sell the frame complete or I have to build it up and find the green screen. Cause I know that the green thing some sort of film right?. but how exactly is it called, also about the printer you used to print the images, can I have the name of it or how should I ask for one of those at a store?. Plz help me out. Amazing video btw.

I work in d.t.g. printing/screen printing and we are in the process of printing stadium cushions. Having problems with the ink smearing. Do you have any tips?

Is the process the same for printing on cashmere? Say I have a cashmere hoodie and I want to put my custom design on it. Do I use ink? I've seen white pattern on black cashmere and the fibers looked like they were dyed.

We haven't really ever printed on cashmere but i assume what you are referring to is water based printing. Just slightly different but same process

I don't know if this question will make sense, but I'm just starting to research this, so bare with me =]
Do you store your screens with the emulsion already on it? The other videos that I've seen (Which weren't nearly as informative, so thank you) weren't clear about that part of the process

we coat many screens at a time and store in a dark room so we can use as needed. The coating process was not explained in this video but that is a good question and should be a video we should do in the future.
