Another awesome video! Glad to see it this week after a surprise surgery landed me in the hospital (I'm doing well!). Sure improved the view from my hospital bed! Thanks guys! 😊
Amazing video. Amazing editing. Amazing couple. The drone footage was epic. Kate you really are a bad ass. Roxy and the kids were priceless. I knew you all were great ambassadors for the USA. Yall keep having fun and stay safe.
Great opening shots - hopefully Kate was left unharmed by that drone action 🙂 Such a relief to be able to gain entry to a country where you can make repairs! Outside of the larger cities, which frankly terrify me, Brazil seems a beautiful place.
Howdy from Texas! I am sure enjoying y’all. Great video and y’all are my newest favorite channel. The relationship between the two of you and Roxy really shows to be loving. May God bless you with a safe voyage.
WOW great mast climb and video. Lots of laughter with Roxy and the kids swimming. Did I miss what was wrong with the equipment or is that in a later video.🤔
Might consider installing some mast mount fold down steps in the areas you have to go up to regularly. You'll be able to flip them down and have footings for avoiding dead legs when you have to, um, hang out up there.. ;)
Good to see that things are going well for you it looks like a very nice place to be. Its always good to see Roxy getting to shore. Be safe and have fun.
Lovely vid. I subbed your channel a bit ago to see you round Cape Horn. I watch a few dozen sailing channels, each for their uniqueness of character and personalities. Yours is one of them. Good luck.
Glad to know you had a great time here in Brazil! And you ended up in one of the best places to fix boats and enjoy the scenery. Hope in the future you can spend more time with us! Meanwhile, you have the world to know :) Good winds and luck all the way to Patagonia!
Loved your reference to Maine. Spent 18 tetras sailing in Maine and most of New England. Kept our boat in Rockland as home base. Great episode guys ✌️ ✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ 🏝 👙 🌞 ✨
Hey Gary! Sorry we missed this one from two months ago! Great question! The Capes just called us I guess, it has been a goal for a long time, to follow in the footsteps of the greatest sailors.
Awesome update... I have been tracking the Chicago to mac race ...Nice to have you back after 3 weeks across the Atlantic.⛵⛵oh... I also was the lightest crew member so up the mast I went to retrieve the lost halyard and tape up the spreader boots.
The best time to sail around the Cape Horn is from December trough February. It’s only July. Unless these videos are half a year or more old, I think that you still have plenty of time before the window of time to round Cape Horn runs out.
Guess you all are around the horn Sweet Kate? Kept seeing a Red Orange looking hull in your shots & was wondering if that was "Odd Life Crafting" in your shots as Roberta & Duka are locals but well connected. Looks like you are handling everything great for walking in blind. Some of us are still concerned about the hull after your late night hit in the Atlantic, so how is that going?
Reversed seasickness - I seem to not have the seasickness gene(s) but after enough time on the waves, when back on land, my brain sometimes plays with me by still compensating a motion that is no longer there. Talk with somebody on land and see the background in motion as if you are on the waves still. And then there are the "sea legs".
Advice on fruit.. apples.. if you can spare cold storage..apples will keep for months. But you have to keep them cold preferably just above freezing..tomatoes. if you keep them wrapped tightly in a plastic bag they can last alot longer I've had them last three or four weeks don't put them in cold storage and don't bruise them.. all soft fruits need to be kept in cold storage.. to get max storage life out of them..except bananas .. can't help you there.. just buy them as green as you can find them.. at one time I was a produce buyer for a living .. hope I helped you a little.
5k miles would be less than one round trip across the US. :-) What is interesting is how big the area of Brazil is... it looks smaller on our standard mercator maps but its really just a smidge smaller than the US.
When we arrived, Brazil was closed to entry by private yacht because of the pandemic. We were the first new foreign sailboat in Ilhabela in almost 2 years. It is now open and pretty much back to normal.
Interesting that you show no concern about the water composition. Recalling "Montezuma's Revenge" about the water quality from Mexico in years passed. My brother-in-law had a reaction to the water in Chicago when they moved there. Not that the water was bad, per se, just had different make up.
A suggestion:By clipping into a rock ascender on another halyard it will give her a backup line should the main lifting line or connecting hardware fail .Being short or tall doesn't always correlate to weight ,lol . Its 3000 miles across the US ,so almost 3x crossing = 5000 ?lol . Great videography of the landscapes , curious to what month you're in Brazil during this episode ? Seems odd on the covid thing being it's 2022. Congratulations on the journey so far, great job .
Good call on the ascender, will have to try that! Also good eye on the mileage, that was totally incorrect, clearly Curtis needed more coffee that morning :-) Cheers @ Easternsun :-)
Also, we are behind in editing, so ahead in real time. You can see where we are in real time on our website and notes from events on our tracker www.sweetruca.com
You have arrived at the most expensive piece of land on the Brazilian coast - Condominio Laranjeiras. It´s where the Brazilian bilionaires have their summer houses. That place is absolutely secure, I assure you that if you had set your feet on that beach at least four armed security guards would be watching your steps :)
Thanks for the feedback Patrick we will keep this in mind. Lots of times we are covering up wind noise or many times we have the stereo on while sailing, and we have to replace the sound to prevent copyright problems. Cheers!
Another awesome video! Glad to see it this week after a surprise surgery landed me in the hospital (I'm doing well!). Sure improved the view from my hospital bed! Thanks guys! 😊
Get well soon!!!
Great video, love the music and pictures of Roxy
What a view from up top

Always looking forward to these comments 💙👍🤩
So glad you made it there. Beautiful country, beautiful people.
Right on!
Loved seeing Roxy having fun with the kids!
Has to be one of the happiest days she's had.
Nice episode. And Roxy is a super star.
She is amazing 🤩
As always you guys do the best job of making us vicarious sailors feel like we are on board lol.....great shots....killer drone stuff.....cheers!
Wow! Thanks for the kind words! Glad you are enjoying and coming along for the ride!
Great opening shots - hopefully Kate was left unharmed by that drone action 🙂
Such a relief to be able to gain entry to a country where you can make repairs! Outside of the larger cities, which frankly terrify me, Brazil seems a beautiful place.
🤣Brazil has some magic! We won't lie! Still working on Kate's drone catching while on a moving plane 😬
Love the drone footage
Excellent Man!
Thanks man! 😁
You are such a nice, polite, decent couple. It's a pleasure to watch your channel
Wow thanks for the kind words Keith 🙏😀
Howdy from Texas! I am sure enjoying y’all. Great video and y’all are my newest favorite channel. The relationship between the two of you and Roxy really shows to be loving. May God bless you with a safe voyage.
Wow such awesome words! That really means a lot. Roxy has the biggest heart. Cheers and fair winds!
Nice to see you both happy! And the neded repairs to be solved
Thanks!
WOW great mast climb and video. Lots of laughter with Roxy and the kids swimming. Did I miss what was wrong with the equipment or is that in a later video.🤔
Thanks Mike :-) Lots more boat work to come!
Might consider installing some mast mount fold down steps in the areas you have to go up to regularly. You'll be able to flip them down and have footings for avoiding dead legs when you have to, um, hang out up there.. ;)
Dead legs after time aloft are no fun!
Amazing video!!! The doggy was so happy! Loved It
Thanks for sharing!
That was beautiful
Thank you :-)
Hello from Missouri. You all are great! Karl
A big shout out to @Karl and all our friends in Missouri! :-)
Good to see that things are going well for you it looks like a very nice place to be. Its always good to see Roxy getting to shore. Be safe and have fun.
Counting our blessings. A happy accident we suppose!
What an awesome boat you have! That is my kind of cruiser, that is, speedy.
Thanks Jon. Not everyone agrees but nice to hear when they do 😁
I spent a week on a farr designed Beneteau 461. It would reach at 9 knots all day. I love that!
Well done folks ! So happy for you !
👍😁 many thanks
Viva Brazil! Bravo Sweet Ruca, you guys are the best.
Viva Brazil! Thanks Al!
Fabulous ‼️ Brazil is on my bucket list. Great episode guys.✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ 🏝 👙 🌞 ✨
Thanks Richard!!! A good place to have on the the list for sure!
Yay! So happy you get to get your land legs back and to watch your adventures in Brazil. What a team you two make. Thanks for taking us along.
Hey Gerald!!! Yayy, thanks so much!
Lovely vid. I subbed your channel a bit ago to see you round Cape Horn. I watch a few dozen sailing channels, each for their uniqueness of character and personalities. Yours is one of them. Good luck.

Everyone was smiling from ear to ear!
Great channel! Thank you!

Love the tunes
Smiling.

Many thanks! A happy accident in a way 🇧🇷👍💚
Your dog is just like your kid just 5 more minutes of play!
Haha, for sure :-)
Loved your reference to Maine. Spent 18 tetras sailing in Maine and most of New England. Kept our boat in Rockland as home base. Great episode guys ✌️ ✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ 🏝 👙 🌞 ✨
Great memories in Rockland! Thanks for the comment
Is there a reason other than you want to for sailing around the horn as opposed to going through the straights?
Hey Gary! Sorry we missed this one from two months ago! Great question! The Capes just called us I guess, it has been a goal for a long time, to follow in the footsteps of the greatest sailors.

Still getting the feeling back in the thighs... 🤣😬
So pretty there
Bem vindos ao meu pais, estamos em Exumas ....
Conhecam ilha Bela
Obrigado!
I just saw that relay under the stainless cover which showed rust and that seemed to be the trouble which you later found out.
Go to Ilha Grande - Big Island - in Rio de Janeiro state. The best place to the boat!!! Ask for the people about Ilha Grande. Is amazing island!!!
Thanks Fabrico! Cheers!!!! :-)
What kind of trimaran was that in the shot when you were hauling up the anchor? Was that the one you linked?
Same couple but they have a different boat that is a trimaran now, yes

We are working on getting caught up as fast as we can! Unfortunately we've come across a lot of speed bumps 😬
So happy you were allowed into Brazil after originally believing the country was closed. Try some Malasadas, its a Portuguese donut. So good.
Yes we were very lucky they helped us out!

Unfortunately I don't believe we crossed paths with the wonderful couple from Odd Life. Looking forward to sharing the progress on the boat so soon!
Brazil is a safe and beautiful country.
We agree! Brazil is awesome!
Hello!! If you need something in angra dos reis - RJ region let me know!
Thanks so much @VeLeiRo BeNZinHo! :-)

Thanks for the tips! Good fresh fruit is so great to have!
You guys are really a cute couple please be careful I'm from Royal Oak Michigan
Maryland 🇺🇸
Hello Maryland!!! :-)
5k miles would be less than one round trip across the US. :-) What is interesting is how big the area of Brazil is... it looks smaller on our standard mercator maps but its really just a smidge smaller than the US.
Got the mileage wrong for sure :-) bad math when just waking up, need more coffee!!!!
😊👍👍❤
🤙🏻💚🤩👍
Who is that guy? O it’s Curtis without the beard. :)
LOL :-)
Sorry, new to your channel. May I ask why Brazil is 'closed'? Is it covid? No quarantine?
When we arrived, Brazil was closed to entry by private yacht because of the pandemic. We were the first new foreign sailboat in Ilhabela in almost 2 years. It is now open and pretty much back to normal.
Oh, and thanks for watching and welcome aboard Keith :-)

Haha definitely something to think about. 😬
I could see myself up there on the top of the mast. NOOOOOOOT!
😅
I can’t get my wife to stand on the first step of a small step ladder.
I think Roxy is saying “I want to leave a huge dump on that beach sooooo bad!”
Hahahahahaha!
Did you although got permission for Roxy?
Glad you made it to Brazil and were welcomed there. Sad to see that you were wearing suffocating devices, though.
Glad you enjoyed the video. The masks were required by law at the time.
I think this is where Duca and Roberta of Odd Life Crafting are from.
Yes very close!
Curtis, did you make an life insurance on her 😂

Oh wow! Cool! We had no idea! We had no internet then, so at the time we could not use google, etc. It did look like a nice place from the drone.
I enjoy your series but please don't play songs with lyrics. I have a hard time listening to stupid, repeative lyrics. Sorry, had to say it.
Thanks for the feedback Patrick we will keep this in mind. Lots of times we are covering up wind noise or many times we have the stereo on while sailing, and we have to replace the sound to prevent copyright problems. Cheers!
nice vid but you fudge with clickbait...
Get out as soon as you can, beneath a wafer thin veneer of civilization lies a third world hell of crime, corruption and disease.
Thankfully we didn't see this side of things, most everyone we met was wonderful, nice, and honest.
@@SailingSweetRuca Good, count your blessings and be safe.
