Not racing, yet long tacks at 30* single handing in 15-20knts. Can you guys do it again.😊 ✨ ✌️ ✨ 🌊💨⛵️🏝👙🌞✨
Thanks Richard! We actually did a race in Rockland too! It was their annual fundraiser with lots of great sailors and people over at the yacht club. Thanks for sharing your experience! Good memories 😀
Well done for getting 1st in the double handed class. An excellent video showing all the hard work and effort and tactics that goes into racing, some really great footage, best I've seen . Question...you shouted we're healing too much release the traveller.......never really understood the traveller other than bringing it right up to point higher but my question is would releasing the main sheet achieve the same effect so what's the advantage of releasing the traveller?
Hi Graham, great question. The simple answer is yes, you can adjust the traveler or mainsheet to depower. On our boat the traveler is faster, keeps the leech closed and maintains mainsheet tension (which has an effect on the forestay tension/jib). So, we ease the traveler in the small/short puffs to controll heel angle without making larger changes which affect the boats balance and headsail trim. Not all boats are the same though, some boats don't have a traveler or a backstay. Top pro's have written books on this stuff, so I would refer to them for more details :-)
Terrific to see you both working with such teamwork and looks like you had a lot of fun, im am curious however, Rule mixup or just being nice to the boat that had the white kite who was windward boat and had to give way who you takced to avoid about mid way through the video? maybe the rules are different in brazil lol but here you were both on starboard so the boat closest to the wind (or windward boat) gives way
Hi Ollie, glad you enjoyed! Same rules in Brazil, haha :-) Good eye, you are correct. We think maybe they just didn't see us under their spinnaker as they were moving at a good clip?
Good video. Your team work is just great. It is nice to have a racing video for a change and not only cruising. Did you set up the rig for racing different than cruising? Your lower shrouds where hanging loose on rhe leeward side. Is the spreaders inline in j46?
Good eye and great questions! The spreaders are slightly swept on the J46. The D1s allow for just a bit of leeward sag and let the mast bend with the backstay as our primary power control.
@@SailingSweetRuca cool stuf. I am a crusing sailor and trying to learn best sail trim in my boat, it is obvious that you know how to get the best out of your boat. Nice small tips are appreciated. Cant wait the info about you rudder.
@@topc9858 Glad to share info when we can! We are all in this boat together 🙂We have a feeling you will probably like the damage repairs when the boat comes out of the water, some interesting stuff to come!
@@SailingSweetRuca I am sure you are right. The collision that damaged the rudder a rare ocasion and there was luck that it did not destroy something vital midle of the ocean. All good to you three.
Ballpark 7 ish upwind to 10 ish knots sailing downwind. Maybe a low of 5 downspeed after a tack or in pre-start. 8 would be a good round number average.
I’m not a sailor so with that being said I have no clue what I just watched did you win? Did you lose ? I think if you had better explained what was going on I would be inclined to watch more but as it stands I just feel frustrated like I wasted 15 min

Saúde! Obrigada!
Outstanding, you guys are the best ....tm
Thanks so much Tom!
Congratulations! I bet that was a calorie burner!
Haha! Totally! Better than the gym.
Awesome epic $H!T! You guys are a great team and read each others minds. Am I correct in assuming you won? You never stated explicitly. 😅
Haha thank you for the nice comment! We did win, but the beer canoe was the real winner... haha
😀👍👍👍❤❤
🤙🏻💙🤯😁🇧🇷
@10:32 how irresponsible of you to leave one of Roxy's squeaky toys on deck 🤣
Did you win the race? You work great together ❤️
We did! It was a good team effort ☺️
What speed were you guys going?
Ballpark 7 ish upwind to 10 ish knots sailing downwind. Maybe a low of 5 downspeed after a tack or in pre-start. 8 would be a good round number average.
👍
👍🏻🤙🏻
I take it that Curtis is a bit competitive, eh?
Haha! Hi Ed! Just a little :-)
Kind of fun. But it seems a little unfair that the guy is doing the steering and the girl is doing all the hard work.😉
😁 We both got a turn at the wheel. Team effort and loads of fun. Your comment made us laugh though! Thanks!
Crikey, i think Jboats should start paying you for marketing their brand internationally!!!!
:-)
What was your average knot speed during the race?
Hi Trina, we didn't track it exactly, but likely somewhere in the ballpark of 7-8 knots.
👏👏👏
Pretty good and could probably dump #2000 lol
I’m not a sailor so with that being said I have no clue what I just watched did you win? Did you lose ? I think if you had better explained what was going on I would be inclined to watch more but as it stands I just feel frustrated like I wasted 15 min
Sorry it left you feeling that way Jason, we appreciate your feedback. Yes, we won our division. This video was just pure sailing, for sailors. Perhaps sometime we can work on some learn to sail videos, or a reaction video to this explaining what is happening. We hope you get the chance to go sailing!
You should definitely watch more of their videos. You ask if they won or lost so you know it's a race. Curtis signaled they won at the end. Kate said you win the race you win the party. Action packed and very exciting. Pretty amazing 2 cruising sailors can win a boat race in their category.
