One of England's finest singer/songwriters. Saw him years ago when I was visting London and saw his show at The Cabbage Patch at Twickenham. I have followed his music for years & wish he would tour in California. So very, very talented; such a writer. I listen to the songs over & over again and am always in awe of Allan's singing, songwriting and such a talented musician! Allan, if you read this.....please come back to the U.S.A & particularly California.
Something tells me that one day Allan will remember Alex' version of "The Oggie man" - this then could be another highlight ... thanks for posting this one!
The rain is beating hard and cold on my window pane Four o'clock in the morning, I'm awake again I know the phone won't ring at this time of day Even if it did I wouldn't know what to say And I've got to get back home to you, sweet love Got to get back home to you When the music played so sweet we were dancing in time I tripped over my two left feet and I stepped out of line When I came to my senses I looked around, you were gone Dance floor was empty, I was dancing alone And I've got to get back home to you, sweet love Got to get back home to you I'm gonna buy a black guitar, I wanna sing the blues Get a snakeskin jacket, alligator shoes Maybe try a slide guitar, I just love the sound it makes When it comes down to the wire I'll do anything it takes 'Cause I've got to get back home to you, sweet love Got to get back home to you I could write you a poem but I've done that before Tokens of a poet's love I don't need any more It's got to be fundamental, I know you want it straight and true I'll give you everything I've got 'cause I owe it all to you And I've got to get back home to you, sweet love Got to get back home to you And I've got to get back home to you, sweet love Got to get back home I just got to get back home Got to get back home to you
@tman916x sometimes simple is best. No, he's not a Leo Kottke, or a Keith Urban, but his voice, guitar and words are all perfect with each other. Not everyone needs to play a blistering guitar or have the voice of Raul Malo to throughly entertain. Every listen to John Prine?
I don't know how to say this without sounding smug or like an asshole, but this guy doesn't really strike me as a great singer or guitarist, however he's a good songwriter.

He's been on of my favourite singer-songwriters during the last 35 years - let's hope he'll give us much more stuff like that during the next 35.

Simply the best.
Allan, du bist für mich einer der Größten, auch mit deinen Duetten mit Linde Nijland und Monika Drasch.

Maybe try a slide guitar, I just love the sound it makes
When it comes down to the wire I'll do anything it takes
'Cause I've got to get back home to you, sweet love
Got to get back home to you
I could write you a poem but I've done that before
Tokens of a poet's love I don't need any more
It's got to be fundamental, I know you want it straight and true
I'll give you everything I've got 'cause I owe it all to you
And I've got to get back home to you, sweet love
Got to get back home to you

Got to get back home to you
