I know styling is subjective and all, but not sure how many people would find the VW Golf to be a better looking car over the GTR.

I agree with Daniel, looks purposeful and hey - it's a very fast car and the speed is why GT-R's are interesting to me. Definitely not a beautiful car, but who cares when it's so damn fast!

This is kinda like a grown up/modern day BMI/Hot Version American Touge battle, except they're driving the cars on the street in addition to setting a lap time.
You guys at Drive need to try and make this a thing that happens on a regular monthly/yearly basis, and cast a group of tuners/privateers to come out and have you score their care, along with the street driving/track driving impressions. I really think you guys could capture a huge audience with this sort of thing and would be very popular, just like Hot Version/ Best Motoring Intenational used to do back in the day with the American Touge Battle.

That looks like a good build from HG and it has a lot of potential for more power with it having a good chassis and being a very capable car! Maybe the looks score was a little harsh!

The liberty walk GTR is fucking HEINOUS. And when one showed up to race at the runway last year, it ran 10 mph slower than a stock GTR thanks to all that crap tacked on to it.

Edit: Also, Matt is biased towards the GT-R more than anything, he even owns an R-32, it's not like he hates them. Simple fact is that GT-Rs aren't beautiful, they're cool, but not great looking.

Tamas Bodo you're kidding right? The original skylines are really nothing in looks compared to the r35. It's boxy and big, but a total monster. They're far more lean and stylish overall, given the times they were built.

Usually for road/diif noise, but as this is a track car it would indeed make sense to take it out.
Matt really doesn't like the styling of the GT-R lol. I love the look of them but i guess I'm just more into Japanese cars in general than Matt is haha

Cosmetic should not be judge. But everyone has different taste, so it's ok in this context
matt it just occurred to me how difficult the behind the scene organization must be for something like this. i know major car magazines have done similarly but it remains to seem like a daunting task especially for a relatively smaller web based auto publication. no comparison will please everyone but this is a great effort.

That I agree with - this GTR ain't the prettiest. But the guy did specifically say "because it's a GTR"... I mean I already knew it's hard to forget Pearl Harbor, but 2/5 just because it's a GTR? Really?

Gentlemen and Matt. This car comparo gives us the winner on the first day and drops one on succeeding days. Brilliant and enjoyable. Usually the " wait for it BIG reveal style " is disappointing . It's nice being told Porsche won on the first day (Ha Ha)

That cage to roof gap is terrible. The driver looks to be sitting above the cage line.
It's a half rear cage though. The height of the top bar doesn't matter as much as it would if it was a full cage.
Um sure it matters. His head is clearly over the top of the cage. How is that safe in any way? lol
lol the gap isnt that large, the fish eye lense on the gopro just makes his head look much higher, also he said the guy who normally drives it is shorter and smaller

well stock weights over 1700 kgs, so first thing you do when you wanna tunning GTR is weight reduction ( back seats behind cage WHAT !) then you can think about "better components"

A good paintjob would change the opinion of most viewers as considering it ugly . Just change it's colour... that's all it needs.
I just don't understand the fanboys. Why pledge so much allegence to a car you most likely do not own and have never driven? I understand if you are miffed as a GTR owner, but get over yourself. Not everyone has to like your car (or for the fanboys, your favorite car). Focus on the positives in this video: it's capable, streetable, and can set a wicked lap time. This is demonstrated by Leh's time and Matt's comments.
Styling is subjective, yes. But there's no denying that it's a big and brick-like car. Just look at a profile shot of it. Matt is allowed to dislike it and voice his displeasure. I personally think the MKIV Golf is a better looking car than the GT-R. True, it looks less purposeful, but that generation of VW is a prettier car when all said and done (again, just opinion of a youtuber). Just because the GT-R is a purpose-built track eater does not mean it is pretty. The two are mutually exclusive.
If you are overlooking every other aspect of this video - the production quality, the excellent commentary/driving, and the fact that these cars are all rounded up and showcased together in the first place - just because you don't like what Matt says about the styling of this Nissan, then why are you here watching in the first place? This isn't a place to sit around and circle-jerk about "lap times, bro." This is a rigerous comparison of streetable tuner cars featuring a multitude of elements. Period.
Stock GTR is fun, but wait until you go up against a GT mustang with built motor,suspension and nitrous. That cost them (total) 57k. You will get beat (not walked) street and track. Own a sc z51 now that is pure shit (garbage overheats, no traction, complete waste that still would hang with any z06 out there) and wish I'd never bought it. The _really_ good cars cost ~ 200k and have mc before the last 5 characters.
Sure THE NSX is the most beautiful out of them all. But The GODZILLA'S are one of a kind❤️❤️❤️💯

4wd proper race cars have front overdrive so they dont understeer, I dont understand why street cars have more drive on the rear.

Leh Keen is horribly dull in front of a camera. I say this not out of malice, but in hopes of some semblance of constructive criticism.
These things are not particular pretty but they honestly look a lot better in person than in pics or videos not sure why but always noticed that.

True, but the track score is based on math, not the car's ability to handle heat (although it was excellent at that). However, my take away was that if one is building a track-ish car, make sure it can handle all temperatures, and you will have a happy car. Spend the money on cooling.

Don't think of it as a C+ on a normal grade scale, from all the cars in the world. This isn't an ABCDF grading system. We came up with numerical values for categories, and 100 is a clean number that made the calculations simpler to understand.
But, some people would give the GTR a 5 for looks, which changes things as well.
This car was fast, had excellent steering, WORKED despite the heat, and (as Leh said) is easy to drive fast. If that's what you want in a car, this is excellent. Not everyone has the same criteria for what makes a car great, and sometimes that has nothing to do with HG.
I personally find the looks of the GTR to be meh, but the performance/$ must be admired, like a C7 Corvette. I would probably spend my money on something slower, and less reliable, because I am stupid, but that doesn't mean my choice is wrong.

Logic isn't always a part of car shopping, right? If that were true, all the Porsche Turbo owners would buy a GT-R, all the F-Type/Aston owners would buy a Corvette.
What I meant was, I'm usually drawn to how a car looks as much as how it drives, so numbers aren't the deciding factor for me.
I bought an E46 M3 for daily/track use. The smart move would have been a C5 (or 6) Corvette, or a GTO, or a Mustang GT with a bunch of mods (for half the M3). But again, there's subjective categories that come into play with a car.
