I have seen Sun Ra and his Arkestra every time they played here in Pittsburgh. I had the pleasure of talking extensively with Sun Ra, June Allison, John Gilmore, and this brother Marshall Allen. They had a plethora of knowledge outside of music, which shaped their musical approach, and the love and humility was beyond comprehension. I drove a Taxi in Pittsburgh for over 35 years, which allowed me to meet hundreds of professionals from athletes to musicians. The people who were prideful or out right jerks were few and far in between. Sun Ra and every musician in his Arkestea are superstars, they were like Carlos Santana, and McCoy Tyner extremely humble and giving of their time and knowledge.
