Wanted to thank you for such top notch, well delivered instruction. So helpful. Cool thing about the internet is finding folks like you. All your tying videos are superb.

To prevent the black UV resin from running off to the sides, you can also turn the nymph upside down on your rotating vise. Thanks for sharing and best regards from Portugal!

Great looking fly. Been following you for about a year and your techniques have really helped. I’ve used the lighter trick numerous times.

Hay, Fly fiend - great site. However, I tied this pattern and it looked exactly (OK, mostly) like the one you tied. Then I coated it with resin and exposed it to UV light. The result was a fly which was almost BLACK? Am I using the wrong resin?

Hey Jim! Are you using CDL? Also what UV and resin setup are you using? knowing what your using is important for me to help you further.

@@TheFlyFiend Yes, am using CDL purchased at Orvis. Am using Solizar (sp?)and also tried Loon clear thin. In both cases the body of the fly went from the nice body, just as you showed in your video, to an almost black appearance. I asked around at the shop and this seems to happen to a lot of folks, not just me. I finally dropped using UV and went back to head cement (nail polish). Much better result. Did I use too much resin? Did I hold the UV source (light) too close? Thanks for the assistance.

Is there a reason for putting the wing pad on the bottom of fly

The number of time this debate has taken place... Feel free to tie both style and test it on your own water. Pick a good spot where you know there are a decent amount of fish and log the fish you catch, once you land 5 just switch and see if you're still catching. Repeat that test with multiple patterns until you have confidence in whatever "works" for you.
