I love that you can tell right away something's wrong. Whether it's 2D opening the door without a key, breathing underwater, or Murdoc trying to kill him, it makes the twist at the end heartbreaking, but not really unexpected

THIS IS SO WELL MADE AND THOUGHT OUT LIKE OH MY GOD. The whales eye in rhinestone eyes, cyborg noodles eye from rhinestone eyes, his fear of said whale, super fast jellyfish callback, the debris/garbage at the bottom of the sea, Russell swimming towards him, although it turned out to be a whale, 2-D hugging his legs on the bed like in the old Gorillaz game on their website, like oh my god. This took a lot of background knowledge and a tremendous amount of creativity. Props to you bc this is amazing
I like how Murdoc has a miniachal smile when he orders Cyborg to gun 2-d down. Like he should be pissed at the mild inconveniance of his singer escaping but instead views it as sport. "The game is afoot!"
The fact that this actually fits into the plastic beach lore because there is a plastic beach game we’re 2d escapes on a bout a you (Murdoc) have to shoot him down but I don’t actually know what happens next
In all seriousness, this is really deep. Like the plastic beach project was focused on pollution. This however is interesting because it brings us back to the actual characters instead of what the characters would be creating music about. I often think about how Murdoc is really abusive to 2D. Like Murdoc is funny and all (ref of THE BATH), but he's in reality a really terrible person. He controls literally both 2D and Noodle, and Russel already is being controlled by Del. I love Gorillaz, but I hope they decide to develop either Murdoc into a nicer person or 2D into a more independent person. It'd be super fucking cool to see an album based on this as well. Like everyone kind of breaking free from Murdoc and Murdoc is left with his radio show and he slowly realizes without 2D, Noodle, and Russel, he's literally nothing. I believe they'd still be able to keep Murdoc's edginess and grouchiness and allow him to still be a dynamic character, if they decide to have him undergo some sort of positive character development. Actually, the more I think about it, the more vivid the music and visuals for that story line become. When it comes to conveying a message to the viewer, I can understand why they chose these really tense relationships. It, at least for me, makes me feel like I can connect to them more, specifically 2D because I know what it's like to undergo abuse. Though I also think that it's time for everyone to develop, and in a sense, if 2D can move on, since I connect with his character so much, I'd feel a bit of relief as well. Then when Murdoc decides to get his shit together and put away his plastic leis, they can create and even more bomb-ass album, creating songs like "We Got The Power." Maybe if they even wanted, Gorillaz could produce this "album" when the band is already back together, and the album would be a reflection of that recent past. That way its not like 3/4 Gorillaz. Damn, to be honest, if Murdoc went under some serious character development from abusive asshole to realizing-his-mistakes-laid-back-edgy-big-brother to 2D, I think it'd make him an even cooler more dynamic character than he is now. EDIT: Would that actually be the first album Gorillaz would've created where the music would be about their own characters??? Damn. That was a lot. Yeah your video was pretty thought-provoking. - p.s. I like the whale bc it's like 2D should go and it was all just a dream but also like he can't go and russel is gone and life is sad. (Or does the whale represent something 2D knows he'll have to face, like Murdoc?? Idk I'm getting 2 d33p)
Thing is, a guy like Murdoc, with his own past experiences with every single type of abuse imaginable, wont ever really confront what his issue is. In Phase 4, we've seen that things have become more easy going between the other and members and Murdoc, but it's like that because Murdoc has shifted from punishing his band members to punishing himself. What we have learned about Phase 4 Murdoc so far: 1. He is now regularly seeing a domiatrix. 2. He doesn't hit 2D anymore. 3. Murdoc has "episodes" where either Noodle or 2D have to chill him out. 4. Noodle has forgiven Murdoc for the El Manana incident, but he's been "groveling" at her feet for like 4 years now, doing whatever she wants him to do. 5. 2D says things are better between them because "Murdoc tortures himself now instead of me, so we're doing better!" 5. The reason the band got back together was because Murdoc sent a seriously embarrassing Snapchat, cry-singing "If I Couldn't Turn Back Time", begging them to come back to him. 6. Murdoc wishes he treated women better growing up. So we've ow entered a Phrase where while Murdoc is still acting like the big sexy rock star he tots himself to be, he's obviously become more depressed and self-harming. Murdoc has realized that his life revolves around the band and not the other way around and it's making him self destructive. It makes sense, Murdoc is the oldest member of the group and his demons have reached a head. Phase 4 Murdoc is probably the most developed character in terms of the Gorillaz rivaling only Noodle.

I think though he knows a lot about what he has done wrong, and might not say it in words, but is trying to possibly express it through actions. This is my favorite fan animatic ever. The visuals just go so well with the music, especially when 2D first got in the boat and the song fully kicked in. I just love the whole story being told here, it all flows together really nice. and I absolutely adore your art style!!
This is absolute quality, definitely the best fan animatic I’ve seen as far as concept and visuals. The pacing and references are perfect, the expressions and character interactions felt as real as any canonical content- the idea is so realistic and makes so much sense. I would not doubt this would be something to happen in the Plastic Beach phase. 2D was being held hostage, as much as he cares for the band and I can see every struggle I imagine him feeling in this animatic. This is just amazing, thank you so much. I’ll stop gushing now Q.Q

I’m going to be honest, it didn’t look good at first, but I could tell over time it really improved- but not just with the sketches, but also the more creative ideas there were. I think this was just stunning and also shows how much you’ve improved. 10/10
