Hi, thank you so much! Im doing my PhD thesis and I have to insert several PDFs, with several pages each, in the Appendix section. When I insert them as an object or as an image, it only inserts the first PDF page. How can I add the remaining pages? Thank you!
Great question! For all the pages to show up, you will have to insert the PDF as a file rather than an object or image. To do so, select Insert > Object menu arrow > Text from File. I wish you all the best with you thesis!
thankyou so much for this easy to understand tutorial....I have been struggling for weeks trying to insert PDF into a large word doc on my mac by screen shoting them lol, I now know the better way to go.
So...up until TODAY, I was able to insert PDF's with no problem from picture from file. Now, it is three or four steps and why? Because Microsoft and Mac actually don't want you to insert anything.
Erin - thanks so much for this. All the instructions I read online said grab the Object button but I didn't know it was hidden in the text group on the Insert ribbon. Thanks so much!
Good Stuff. For my purposes, I have a second-phase search warrant I am submitting. The word doc needs to included my first phase warrant attached as a PDF attachment. Confirming this will apply?
Thank you for watching! For your purpose, I don't recommend using the method shown in this tutorial because once the PDF is inserted into the Word document, it becomes part of the Word doc and is therefore editable.
Thank you for watching! Unfortunately, I'm not aware of a quick fix for PDFs that don't insert correctly into Word docs other than to manually correct the issues in the Word doc.
I followed the steps you said and when the PDF is inserted into my Word document, it does not appear. All that is displayed is an "embedded document." I have to click on a check box either "link" or icon" when doing this option. Help?
Thank you for watching! I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your image. If the PDF you inserted was "flattened," you won't be able to rotate the image. However, if it wasn't flattened, you should be able to move it. I have an older tutorial about working with images in Word that you may find helpful: ua-cam.com/video/Lgd2QR0ltic/v-deo.html.
Thank you for watching! Unfortunately, some earlier versions of Word aren't always able to insert a multi-page PDF. One workaround is to first convert the PDF to a Word file. I wish you all the best!
Hi Erin, I am editing a long multi file Word document. When using the Text From File feature and inserting other shorter Word docs into the longer Word doc, the files aren't being inserted in their original form. All of the text is scrunched up at the left hand side of the page and the breaks between paragraphs aren't showing. Am I doing something wrong in the insertion process? Thank you for all you do!
Hi, Kristin. I haven't encountered that issue before, so I am afraid I don't have a solution. Perhaps select the errant text, right-click it, select Paragraph, and then see if there is anything amiss with the spacing, indents, etc.? Also, have you tested the Text From File tool on another sample doc? That might help you pinpoint whether the issue is with your software or the docs themselves. I am sorry I can't provide more concrete info. 🫤
I am sorry to hear that! I can't be sure of the issue; however, it may be that the font used in the PDF isn't available in Word, so Word is using an inappropriate substitute. If possible, you may want to insert another PDF containing another font into a new Word doc to see if you can determine if the issue is with the PDF or Word. I wish you all the best!
Thank you for watching! It sounds like you may have selected "Object" instead of "Text From File" in the Object menu. I wish you all the best with your project!

Ive done this but I cannot rotate the immage rouund to the right way ie landscape

@@erinwrightwriting I managed to rotate it but the writing dissappeared. So I gave up. Thank you for replying back.
@@sarahsarah4271 Oh no, sorry to hear that! I do hope you can find a workaround. Good luck!
hey, thanks for the info. sadly, my pc couldn't handle this simple task.
I am sorry to hear about the trouble with your PC. Still, thank you for watching!
What about on Office 365?
Thank you so much for watching! These steps only apply to the desktop version of Word. The online version doesn't currently offer this function.
I am on a MacBook Pro, and when I follow the steps, it only shows the 1st page of the PDF in the Word document.
Thank you for watching! Unfortunately, some earlier versions of Word aren't always able to insert a multi-page PDF. One workaround is to first convert the PDF to a Word file. I wish you all the best!

This did not work for me; you need to go as far back as Word 2010

Thanks, but it didn't exactly work for me. It inserts the pdf text as a collection of wonky characters. :(
I am sorry to hear that! I can't be sure of the issue; however, it may be that the font used in the PDF isn't available in Word, so Word is using an inappropriate substitute. thanks, is it working with pdfs including Arabic text?
Thank you so much for watching! If the PDF and the Word document are both in Arabic, then I think it should work.
nice and useful
Thank you so much!
the pdf is image. can i still do this?
Yes, if the image is saved as a PDF, you can still insert it in a Word document. Thank you so much for watching!
informative
I am glad to hear that! Thank you for watching!
i dont have all those settings on the top its super simplified
Thank you for watching! This tutorial is for the desktop version of Microsoft Word. Are you using Word for the Web, instead?
The pdf was not inserted as an editable word document. It was inserted as a picture. So what is wrong with this?
Thank you for watching! It sounds like you may have selected "Object" instead of "Text From File" in the Object menu. I wish you all the best with your project!
I take it this doesn't apply to MS Word 2010?
Thank you for watching! It may work in Word 2010; however, Microsoft no longer supports 2010 so I no longer keep a copy of that version for testing.
It looks like this works only if you've got Adobe Acrobat installed. Which is pricey software!
Thank you so much for watching! The conversion happens in Word, so you shouldn't need to have Acrobat installed.
