I have been fishing the Mutant for a year and enjoy using it.

I have been so close to pulling the trigger on this. I have been disappointed with zoom rods in the past.

Zoom rods can definitely be hit or miss, and often have very different characteristics at the different lengths. A few of us on the Tenkara Angler team fish the Mutant fairly regularly and think it's a nice rod. Although we understand some people can't get past the color or name.
