    Tuner/Brakes really improve factory barrels. With my 223 Rem 700 my best 5 shot groups at 100 yds. use to be 5/8ths but now they are 3/8ths with my Herrell's tuner/brake.
    I would recommend buying a tuner/brake combo both for performance and looks.
    First thing to do is find a bullet and powder weight your rifle likes or stock cartridge without the tuner/brake installed then stick with it after you have found the best dial location for the tuner.

      Hi AirGunner! You'll love the Vudoo, just make sure that the magazine doesn't bind when loading into a bag on a prop. You can see my other video on the 6 month follow-up and the fixes I made. You'll also want to make sure you have the updated firing pin, so might call them and ask about it. If you don't, you might see fliers like I did and think it's the ammo. I've been happy with the Center-x I got from the testing center; they do a great job so I'd certainly send it off to them for testing...And you get to buy a ton of ammo if you do. BUT my rifle also LOVES SK Match (not 'long range match') ammo and I use that for practicing. Good luck with the new rifle and thanks for watching my friend!

      I've been round and round with a CZ 457 and Savage B22 Precision.....about 20 different kinds of ammo, good stuff budget stuff and everything in between. Can't get under 2" at 100yds no matter what I do.
      Looking forward to the Vudoo.....should be here by end of Monday. Already have some SK rifle match and standard plus to try. I'll let you know how it goes.

    Excellent job showing us all the ins and outs. of these tuners. I was going to buy Erics EC tuner until I realized I had to machine my barrels. This is what I was looking for, a self install type tuner. I may try a Harrel's as well. It looks like Harrel's has 3 different body sizes and 5 different thread sizes now. (If you don't mind buying their tuner with a brake they look excellent) They are under 100.00 so I am game to try their brake. I have a 6.5 Creedmoor and a 6.5 PRC I am using them on. I'm thinking of getting an ATS and a Harrel's and compare.

      Hi PatiotPaul! Thanks for the kind words my friend. In the end, they all do the same thing, so I think you're good with any model. I'm running the EC Tuner now and love it (did a comparison review). The build quality is just a bit better on the EC Tuner in my opinion, BUT, that's not to say the ATS was junk...It's a nice tuner as well. Get what works for you, tune it up, and you'll be good to go! Thanks for watching!

    Are you still using the tuner… also, did you buy one for your creedmore? I’m considering this tuner since I’ll be shooting with a suppressor, did you ever shoot it with a suppressor? I’m concerned that there may not be enough threads on the muzzle for the suppressor. Thanks for your videos!

      Hi 735! I use an EC Tuner on my competition 22 LR now, and no tuner, just an MPA DN5 brake on my competition 6mm BRA which has a 26" straight 1.25" barrel.

    I've found the SK ammo to be excellent. In my wife's Tikka the Standard Plus is one hole at 50 yards. My Bergara really like SK Match (both standard and long range)...excellent stuff. As for the tuner, I just put a witness mark on my barrel with a sharpie...made it simple to adjust.

    • @The4GunGuy
      @The4GunGuy  3 роки тому

      Hi Eric! Thanks for the great comment! I have some Center-X and X-Act as well, but really like how that SK Rifle Match is working out. Interesting enough, some of the guys I shoot with told me NOT to purchase the SK Long Range Match and that the regular "Match" was better. Good call on the tuner marking, I'll use that! Thanks again for watching my friend and shoot straight!

      @@The4GunGuy Will do. FYI I only use the Long Range Match for > 200 yard shooting otherwise I stick to the regular Match. I find that after I did some ballistic truing the Long Range really does want to be used only for long range as it provides no advantage at shorter distances. Based on my chrono data, for example, my dial for 300 yards with standard Match is 12.3 mil but with the Long Range it is 10.1...really helps when you start to run out of elevation on your scope.

    Great review! I'm considering one for my 6BR rifle. It's a blueprinted Rem700 with a Krieger barrel and it shoots really well with the SMK 107's, but maybe I can squeeze that extra accuracy out of with a tuner to get a little edge. I'm so far down the rabbit hole considering rifles, scopes and reloading tools so maybe I should just stop thinking about and click the checkout button! :D

      Hi Christian! Thanks for the kind words! Watch my video on the EC Tuner for my Vudoo. I've actually switched to that tuner, but honestly, either is a good buy. If you're going to run a brake or suppressor, then this is the one to get since you can't mount those if using the EC Tuner at this time. Thanks for watching my friend and remember, you can't take that money with you!

      OH, just remembered that you said you were mounting on your 6BR...Then REALLY look at the EC Tuner Brake (did a video on that one too) as that's what I'm running on my 6.5 Creedmoor and loving it. I was hesitant to take my trusty sidewinder brake off that rifle, but Erik's combo Tuner/Brake is very sweet.

    Late to the game here, but after you dialed in the 12 on the tuner, did you then make adjustments on the scope to get to dead center on bullseye? I'm thinking about getting one pretty soon.

    • @The4GunGuy
      @The4GunGuy  Рік тому +1

      Hi Kevin! Yes, after I tuned to the tight group, I then zeroed the scope. Now, to be honest, I don't run a tuner any longer because of the straight barrels I shoot on both my rimfire and centerfire rifles, both of which are tack drivers without the need of a tuner. But, many of my fellow shooters are using tuners still, so I think if it will make you feel more comfortable with your accuracy, then go for it. Thanks for watching my friend!

If you watch my review on the EC tuner, I liked it a bit better because of the "beefiness" (if that's a word) of it, but they both do the exact same thing. I'm running a bull barrel now, so no need for tuner at all! Thanks for watching my friend!

      Cool, I'll go check out your EC video. I'm shooting a T1x in an Oryx chassis as my fun starter .22 "precision" kit and thought it'd be fun to try a tuner for the heck of it. I wish Tikka would offer a version of the T1x with a bull barrel. That'd rock. Call it a T2x or something.🤷🏻‍♂️ I just ordered a Begara B14r to try and to compare to the Tikka. Once I've got the Begara, that could be the designated can gun since it's got a shorter barrel than my Tikka and get the ATS tuner while the Tikka could get the EC. We'll see how it shakes out. I've actually also replaced the heavier Butt Plate on my MDT ACC chassis with their aluminum Butt Plate and was able to take some front weight off both rifles which helps me. • @The4GunGuy
      @The4GunGuy  2 роки тому

      Hi 63! From what I read on tuners and from what Erik Cortina stated, once you find the node, that's it...Leave it alone. I went further just to demonstrate (and to see for myself) that the groups would indeed open back up and they did. This isn't like tuning a load where you want the 'node' on both sides of a good grouping with good SD's and ES's. Once you find the tuned setting, you leave it because that is the tuning point of the barrel. Hope this answers your question.

    • @The4GunGuy
      @The4GunGuy  2 роки тому

      Hi Day At the Range! My understanding is that (especially for 22lr), once you tune you don't need to adjust for range, ammo, etc... Now, that being said, we're talking about the GROUPING here, not adjusting your zero because one ammo shoots slower/faster than another. Hope this makes sense? I've shot MK Match, x-Act, Center-x (my match ammo now) and others with a tuner and they all had very tight groups in close and out at distance. Thanks for watching!

      @The4GunGuy  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Roger! I would think that if the barrel has the same threads on it then you should be able to mount this on the barrel. Not sure about the results however, but, Carbon barrels like steel barrels are still impacted by harmonics, so I would also think that the tuner would be effective.

  • @samw2768
    @samw2768 2 роки тому

    You can not tune for different lots of ammo. Once the tuner is set that's it. It's doesn't get moved again for the life of the barrel. It's not about harmonics either , you guys are so far behind br shooters it's crazy. The work has already been done a long time ago with tuners. Lmao it's sad you guys just ignore all the work before you. People have tried tuning for certain harmonics and they never work out. Here's something for you to try, get a stethoscope and tap the barrel. While tapping the barrel listen for a dead spot right behind the crown about 1 to 2 inches. The object of a tuner is to get that node to the exit of the crown. Look up Bill Calfee

    • @The4GunGuy
      @The4GunGuy  2 роки тому

      Hi Sam! I'm very intrigued with your analysis, and took your advice to review some of Bill Calfee's work and various blogs that politely debate his findings (one older blog specifically caught my eye: benchrest.com/archive/index.php/t-48716.html). Your comment is actually very timely as I'm working up some center fire rounds in the next day or two and thought about validating your statement around "once the tuner is set that's it". I'm a numbers guy, so I want to validate (or am I wrong here) that if I tune for a specific 6.5 Creedmoor hand load, I shouldn't have to change the tuning if I 1) change the powder load let's say from 41.7 to 42.2; change the projectile from a 140 ELMD to a 147 ELDM or even a 140 BTHP; 3) change the seating depth of the projectile? I'm not debating you here Sam, I really want to understand the statements people are making about tuners and which beliefs hold true. You've given me some good material for another video my friend!
      I have seen with my Vudoo V22 that using Lapua Center-x or SK Match seem to have the same results from an accuracy standpoint and actually changed from Center-x to SK Match just before my last match with very good SK Match results with the EC Tuner installed. Now, I have my Vudoo at the Lapua testing center without the tuner installed, and I'm anxious to see their results. Anyway, I know this is one of those touchy subjects that people debate, and I like seeing that healthy debate. I believe in the end it comes down to what YOU believe in and are comfortable with for YOUR shooting style. Thanks for watching and your great comment above Sam!
