I saw this unit performing this piece a year or so ago (along with a Dvorak piano trio I believe); at that performance the cellist really stood out the most, but all three were superb.
I didn't film this video. I found on youtube but the video and audio was out of sync so I fixed and upload again. I am an editor e videographer, so I did others in my life.
That scherzo is the most wonderful piece ever! Spooky main theme, followed by that delicious fresh air melody in the trio, then back to the sinister main theme.
Le regretté Lars Vogt et Christian Tetslaff , ensemble à Menton, je me disais qu'ils représentent la musique de chambre vu qu’ils ne font qu’un. Je suis désolé de ne pas connaître le nom de la violoncelliste.
this kind of apreciation says more about you than about those musiciens !!!!... of course, there are other ways to play that (that's always the case) , you don't have to like this but not with that kind of words, you don't have any musical argument, what does that mean "a german playing" , this is absurd (and no, i'm not German.. but Brahms, he was )
I feel like we must have experienced two different performances. I found the performance the opposite of each of your comments. I take by 'Germanic' you mean 'not deep......correct....superficial. Seriously? That's what you got from this absolutely on fire performance?
Exceptional performance
What a committed performance of this extraordinary work. Wonderful!

The variation beginning at 12:10 is unbelievably beautiful.

I think Brahms must have lifted the tune from Morris Albert's cloying ballad "Feelings". Whatever, I prefer the Brahms version, by a huge margin.
Interesting ending to the Scherzo! A very fine performance.
