    Thank you, I had 2 lapses this year and felt so guilty after drinking.
    I'm currently on my first day again and will try to avoid drinking alcohol for good. I just feel bad for breaking my previous records which were 187 days and 49 days.

      Congrats on coming back! 10/24 sounds like a date to keep ;) Take it day at a time, keep what worked for you those other sober stretches and identify what you didn’t do that you need to do differently this time. Rooting for you! 👏🏻💚✨

    If someone struggles with for example a porn addiction. A slip is when he/she has been doing well, then suddenly winds up in a quick session, but ends up picking themselves up and moving on. Relapse/binge is when they consistently return to their old habits on a daily basis. Basically when they go back to the same place they used to be. Slips are inevitable.

      Thanks for sharing this! Great point about how slips are defined and inevitable with process addictions (behavior- slippery slope to begin with- versus consuming a substance addiction which is so black and white!).

    I had a really bad slip with alcohol after 5 months of sobriety 2 nights ago. I drank myself into alcohol poisoning. I was throwing up till late in the afternoon the next day. It's a good thing I have time off work cause I'm still not totally outta the woods. I'm laying in bed now depressed. I hope that what I did wouldn't constitute as a relapse given the severity of it. I know I don't want to drink again. I can't handle that level of sickness and guilt anymore.

      I hope you’re feeling better now! Scary how much the drinking can progress and it’s affect on the body after some time. Congrats on those 5 months! And continuing now! Just try to identify what you can do differently going forward, based on what led to picking up 2 nights ago. The good news is you never have to feel that way again! Stay the course, day at a time. I believe in you 💚

      @@MaryVonO Thank you. I just had my last counseling session with my counselor and after that had a week off of work with nothing to do with my time. I think part of it is isolation and being sad I won't get to talk to her anymore.

      @@flatlineoptimism2600 Yes, two siginificant danger zones- isolation and grief. I hope you connect with some type of recovery community if not already, and go gentle with yourself having the loss of that counseling relationship. Feel your feelings so you can move through the grief.

    I was trying not to look a p*** but I unintentionally stumbled across an image (I wasn't even searching for it) does that count as a slip?

    • @MaryVonO
      @MaryVonO  Рік тому

      Motive is key. If it was purely accidental, unintentional, and then you didn’t spiral into compulsive behavior thereafter… then let it go and just learn from it- like if there was something you could have done differently, to avoid stumbling on the trigger in the future.
      If you did fully relapse thereafter, then get the help you need to stop and start fresh, again focusing on what was your part in leading to the relapse. Make sense?

      @@MaryVonO It's just I was tracking how long I haven't watch p*** and I don't know if I should count that or not?

    • @MaryVonO

      @@cradica If you didn’t shut it down immediately, some might consider that a slip. With alcoholism, if someone served me a mixed drink accidentally and I didn’t know and took a sip then realized it, as long as I don’t drink it beyond the truly accidental 1st sip, it doesn’t count. If I continue and drink the whole drink, that’s a different story. Consider how that concept translates to what happened with you accidentally stumbling upon p***. And regardless what’s most important is you are back on a healthy track now. 👏🏻
