If my mother was alive she would almost be 105 years old. I'm in my mid sixties. She told me when I was in elementary school that there would come a time that the only way to get an education without being taught evil would be either homeschooling or neighborhood schools. I didn't think then that that could ever happen. However, true to form she was right. She always was even when she said I would burn something if I cooked it that way even though that was the way I always cooked it. She was ALWAYS right. May God be with us all.

I was homeschooled until 5th grade where I then went to a private Lutheran school. I got picked on, made fun of, and harassed. School became a battle zone where in order to survive I had to listen to secular music, wear the latest clothes, and learn to be mean to others just to survive and fit in. I see it now as the beginning of my falling away with my relationship with God. Luckily, he never forgot me and drew me back 😊HalleluYah 🙌

@@BluebarnHomestead - it was a christian school and they made fun of my mom for reading her bible in the car. I also had bible class and the first few assignments they gave me an F because i used the KJV instead of the approved NIV. I look back and think none of those people were christian nor had christian values. Teachers teach there because they don’t need the credentials and parents send their kids there so the school can teach them values and morals because they don’t have the time too. I later transferred to public school which was actually a better social environment than the private school.
When I was in high school i learned I can take classes at the community college and get both high school and college credit. I recommend that to every parent now. You can actually graduate high school and have all your lower level college requirements finished and finish out your college academics at a university and graduate before you are 20 if you do it right. School Advisors never tell that to you.

When my younguns were teenagers they begged to go to public school. I told them i would no more allow them to go roll around in a garbage dump all day then attend that local high school.
Eventually I heard these words, "You were right Mama."
And now they plan to homeschool their own children when they arrive. That's a great feeling.
    It's worth every sacrifice.

I never in my life saw myself as a homeschool Mom. But as my kids got further along in public "school " I very quickly saw them both begin to fail. Yes academically, but I saw them losing their moral foundation. I fought their father for 2 solid years and, in the end, I wore him down. I took them out and began the homeschool adventure. I never regretted it. It was hard to find a way to go about it, to find a way that suited each kid, who are polar opposites. As a SINGLE MOM, I figured it out. My kids education was up to me and ONLY me. Hell yeah I figured it out. My son was done at 17. My daughter just finished up at 16. This summer she is going to start the build on her own self sufficient tiny house. My son has been self sufficient for 6 years now. Let them tell you who they are or who they want to be and teach or lead from there but let them figure that out first. Each kid is different. Each kid learns best differently. Not every day is going to go as planned, but it's going to go better than it would in grooming camp...I mean school.

I don't have much of it but if one of the grandparents in our lives asked to be able to help in that way, I would be very grateful. I often get told that children need to be able to learn from other people and "be away from Mom" but no one offers to help.

I have been homeschooling since 2002. I have seven children, two legally blind, 2 ADHD, and i have used every type of curriculum under the sun. I could never put them in school. It strikes fear in my heart!
Three have graduated already, and while college was out of the question financially, they are all on their own learning life. My son became a mechanic by apprenticing. My oldest, legally blind is working as a waitress and hostess. My second daughter is working jobs here and there.
They all knew we couldnt afford college and they needed to figure things out, save, and live wisely. When my oldest daughter graduated, she wanted to be a Marine. Took the test and she blew the majority out of the water. But they wouldnt take her because of her vision. It broke her heart. That was in 2016.
Anyway, Yah has blessed me with a husband who works hard to make it possible for me to stay home. I have not had a paying job since 1995.
Four more children left. They are in 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th years of school. I dont worry about academics as much as making sure they learn at their levels. Some kids are slower than others and that is okay! I dont force subjects they cant grasp or dont care to know, but I do make sure I cover all the bases, so to speak, and allow them to learn what they enjoy.

My wife was visiting family with some of our children recently. She said many of them commented how our children were different, specifically how they could carry on in conversations with adults. Something they are not used to since most children are not taught or experienced in having conversations with adults. A good friend once answered me when I was asking advice about raising my children. He asked "Are you raising children or young men?" That was eye opening for me. I have children but I want them to become amazing adults. Schools are a system of being raised by their peers and if the opinions of snot nosed children is what you want out of the adults you raise, then put them through the system, otherwise raise them yourself.

My respect for all home school families. In the past I believed all the myths about home school. The children won't get properly socialized, parents can't possibly teach as well as formally trained teachers and children will miss out on opportunities. Boy was I wrong. Every home schooled child I have met is courteous and respectful. They know how to engage well not only with other children but intelligently with adults as well. Many home schooled children who choose college can easily find those opportunities. My cousin's children were all offered full ride academic scholarships after graduating highschool early in their home school. During home schooling most children join sport teams, learn music and art in depth. Many home schooled children can learn in depth certain subject matter they are interested in. Often learning college level subject matter. If I had the opportunity for a do over I definitely would home school. Thank you to all you wise parents not only teaching academic subjects in homeschool but also life skills and a great moral foundation.

Zach, you’re 100% right! Cesspools. 😮‍💨 Last school year my son would come home from school every day telling my late fiancé and I what the other kids said or did and we would just cringe. There were kids “twerking” in class, talking about their sexuality, cursing at each other, etc. And those were 4th graders! 😩 We moved from FL to TN last summer and this year has been exponentially better (parents here seem to actually care), but I still plan on homeschooling from next year on. It will be challenging to do it by myself (lost my fiancé last July), but I know it will be worth it.

I saw the writing on the wall. I continued to work due to having the better benefits and salary. I would have loved to stay home to school my son. This is the same school system I have worked in for 28 years. I can't wait to retire from teaching in two years with 36 years of teaching experience. I'm sick and tired of the bureaucracy! • @Jshackett

@Anamericanhomestead I've found traction with parents when I bring up Luke 6:40. "A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher." The question I've asked is, "Who do you want your kids to be like? The purple haired liberal teacher who doesn't know what gender they are and thinks Jesus is a myth or do you want your kids to think biblically and have your worldview?" It's really an issue of biblical fidelity at this point because Ephesus 6:4 tells Fathers to bring their children up in the Lord and its straight up sinful to subcontract that out to a godless institution.
You're right in your assessment that even if you're single, it's not an excuse because that responsibility to bring kids up in the Lord still remains, and there is no caveat that it only applies if you're married. I do think this is a HUGE opportunity for the church to step in and help single parents by setting up cooperatives and other things because that's part of bearings each other's burdens (Gal 6:2). However, that help needs to be empowering for parents to teach their kids and not replace parental teaching. Too many times, the church either takes responsibility away from or parents' dump responsibility on the church. Its honestly why I've been hesitant to start a youth group at my church because I would rather empower Fathers to disciple their children.

The Professor of Education responded to a crack someone in the class made about the low academic bar of teachers and he stated, "It's true. Most teachers graduate in the bottom 25%, of the bottom 25% of their graduating class." I thought, WTF, and I did not pursue education as a major.

You in the USa are so blessed because you have all the homneschooling material available! We have almost none. There is 1-2 internet based homeschool curriculumns, thats it. And even one of them is very school-like curriculumn. As a Torah observing believing family we have needed to to everything by ourselves. We have picked ideas from English international material that's available online and used some public school books just to help for ex in math or something. I hope you all in English worl can appriciate the amount of material and sources you have, there's so little in our own language. But we think like Zachary, we have no other choice! This is all the truth! I started homeschooling my son right before the pandemic hit. It was because of two reasons: They said he was too hyperactive to learn (but not a behavior problem, go figure) and second, he was getting bullied. We tried for a year and a half to resolve this and to the school's credit they were suspending the kids who were doing it. It was the same two boys, but it wasn't doing anything to stop them. They'd get a week off of school and my son would get a week of peace. The whole thing would continue as soon as the boys were back in school. They would gang up and beat him up when "nobody was looking" and one time they tried to push him down the stairs. In the end the principal said that there was nothing more that she could do. Can you believe that? First, they told me that they couldn't teach him and then they said they couldn't keep him safe at school. Oh, and my son was in the third grade at the time, that's right two boys tried to push my son down a flight of stairs in the THIRD grade. So those of you who think your kids are okay if they are in elementary school, think again. After this the pandemic hit, and I took it as God telling me that I needed to just homeschool them all. It's like a switch was flipped in them. The sullen nature was gone, the negativity and aggression were gone. I had my kids back and that -more than anything- convinced me that I was right to homeschool.

I feel you there. A boy who they legally could not tell me if he had an IEP or not (he did...my son told me) had "a history of violent outbursts." One day, he got upset with my asthmatic son, tackled him, sat on his chest, and put both hands around his neck. Teacher got in trouble for telling me he has a history and wasn't even supposed to tell me about the incident but her conscience wouldn't let her stay quiet. School policy. Same school policy will routinely call you 😮if your child bumps their head at recess. Riddle me that. Repeated d3a+h thr3a+s from the same students each time to the same target each time are OK but cartoon female body parts in Fantasia once in music class requires an apology letter sent home to parents the very next day. Riddle me THAT. Anyway, he didn't get punished AT. ALL. He wasn't even required to apologize. They were in second grade. Had an adult done the same to another adult, it would've been a Class G (I think?) FELONY. Oh but it's some poor little innocent baaaaaaaby so he doesn't even get a slap on the wrist. Such utter crap!! We, multiple times, requested copies of the police report we filed but never received it.
That, combined with all the horrors and other backasswards BULLSPIT in the district, had the principal turning red and speedwalking away from me as fast as he could when we crossed paths. I tore him UP. Didn't do a lick of good, but I sure tried. I also went above in the chain of command but no dice. Not even the d3a+h thr3a+s I mentioned making the news was enough to turn that ship around.
We were dealing with a LOT at the time so I didn't think I was mentally or emotionally (and, at one point, physically) capable of homeschooling. We eventually did pull them out a few years later after moving to 2 different districts and life circumstances changed. I wish we'd done it from the start but at least we have proof of how effed up it all is. There have been countless issues. I have letters, emails, notes, all kinds of stuff to prove it to people who don't believe me. .....except that police report...
      Better late than never, right?

@@katie7748 I'm so sorry you had to go through that. It's almost as if you are fighting against the school instead of working together to resolve the issue. In this I understood the principal, she can suspend but if the parents don't follow up on their end, nothing changes. I also saved all of my paperwork, emails, text messages, etc. I don't have any ill will towards the school system in general, I just wanted to protect myself in case they tried anything. I heard some states can be terrible about homeschooling. Best wishes to you and your family.

Great shirt. My favorite part of homeschooling is that we can do whatever we want to do. My kids are learning about and growing mushrooms. They’re 4 & 6 years old. My son is 2 months old. He’s still learning how to get his eyes to see shades of green. The girls are going to a co op class once a week at a local church. It’s a blast. No one is having more fun than us!

We are pulling my daughter out of private school for the reasons you listed AND because our state is now paying for tuition IN FULL for anyone who qualifies for the hand out. This is the reason we didn't put her in public school. School choice is turning private schools into public. The school is in for a huge surprise once these kids- whose parents could care less about raising their kids properly. We are done

Mmhmm the Christian high school I was blessed to have attended in the early to mid00s turned to crap right after I left, thanks to Choice program. Took 3 years tops and the strict dress code and Christian teachers were gone. Went back maybe 5 or so years later to attend a school concert and my goodness! So many tattoos!! On minors!!!
I remember politely arguing with another mom at a park playground once about it. She gently shook her head and said, "That's evangelism." Perhaps, but it looks an awful lot more like inviting the Devil into your children's lives than evangelism.

    Good words!
Life is busy, and homeschool is meant to be different than the schools to which we aren't sending them. So, God put my heart at rest with the following realization:
If my children can do reading, writing, and arithmetic well, and they have a curiosity and drive to learn, they will be well equipped to learn whatever they set their heart and mind to learn in the future. I also plan to encourage them to prioritize learning a trade before attending college (if they choose to pursue a degree).

Back in the 90s, I got a very good education from our rural public school. However, I was really messed up socially and definitely damaged goods. I wish I would’ve had the opportunity to be taught at home. There were still things I lacked from my public school education in math and chemistry, but I picked them up on the job very quickly and progressed quicker than a lot of my peers because I wanted to learn. I guess my point is, don’t feel bad that you might be “” cheating your children out of a good education. If you teach them how to learn, they will catch up literally in weeks or days.

One of the greatest visuals I have seen when discussing "Im sending my kids to be a light in dark places" was when a lady had one student stand on a chair and the other on the floor. Then, she had them demonstrate which was easier... the student on the chair lifting the student from the floor to their level or was it easier for the student on the floor to pull the student on the chair down....

Zach unfortunately lol I’m a substitute teacher in a public school system. I can say this, that there are some parents out there that shouldn’t and don’t home teach. Thank goodness. However, I wish they could but just can’t.
Like I’ve said before, I did and would definitely home teach my kids again.
I see every day what the system is doing to the kids and it’s so sad. Every year, kids are graduating and they still can’t read or write. It’s a money game. Let’s see how many kids we can enroll and how many can graduate regardless if they can read or write.

That helped a lot too. As the 2 homeschool programs we used werent very good. The first one (insight k-12) was basically public school done at home with teachers that seemed to be the weirdest of the weird. Then the 2nd one Discovery K-12 gave me no instruction. Gave her assignments but no way for me to check it. So I would read over her work before she submitted it, not knowing if she was doing good or not. Find the right program.

My daughter is in her first year of teaching and she teaches 1st grade in a public school in a nicer suburb of a capital city. There are 2 other 1st grade classes which started with 22 students each. Within weeks of school opening one of those teachers went out (not sure why) and they split her class between the other two teachers (one being my daughter in her first year) it took almost three months to replace that teacher. A few weeks later they fired the other one. (I don't have any details) so 2 more just up and quit including the "head teacher" who is the only one with experience. My daughter is stuck in a contract with the school system. She says that over half the students are "trauma cases"❤ being raised by grandparents or foster parents due to their parents being dead, gang affiliated or in prison. She has one little boy (these kids are about 6) who regularly "advocates for himself" (his words 😑) because she might be his teacher but she's white and he doesn't have to listen to her. Which, every parent should know, is a contagious point of view among 6 year Olds who do not want to follow directions in the classroom. And, according to the senior faculty, is an opinion that must be "respectfully considered" and "not immediately disregarded"... seriously. So now my daughter says things like: "Well that's an interesting opinion... let's consider for a moment if it's true while you respectfully SIT DOWN." I asked her if she's going to send her kids to public school when they're ready and she said "absolutely not." She started with another teacher this year who is gathering the money to pay her way out of her contract by the end of the school year. You get a bonus for contracting... she's paying it back so she can quit.

Right now, I'm fighting the CESSPOOL in our church youth group with what my 13-year-old has been exposed to during Bible study, and we're at a strong Bible-teaching church. We've watched parents turn away and not care over things that made our mouths drop. I've had to fight for things I shouldn't have to fight for in a house of God. It's not just secular places; it's Christian places too! Our kids will be exposed to the junk, but I will fight to keep it as limited as possible. The world's standard is not a standard we will allow in our household.

I personally know 2 women ( related to one) who's husbands left them. Both are Christian women. One woman has 5 children, the other has 4 children. They had to get full time jobs outside the home (neither chose welfare or government help) and still successfully homeschooled their children. Truly, it is a matter of priorities and convictions. Even so, if you take your kids out of the schools and do NOTHING except teach them how to work hard, be honest & ethical, teach them the Bible....they'll still do much better than any time spent in the government indoctrination institutions. BTW~ the kids turned out very well .Any parent would love for their kids to do as well.

Right on Zack. We have been homeschooling for about 18 years. I've never been a single parent, but was raised by one. The one thing that is so hard to deal with down here in Alabama are the churches. They do not treat homeschool kids equal. The homeschoolers are pretty much ignored. I don't want this to be about specific religions. However, we homeschool for the Lord and I can't understand how pastors can stand up and glorify these institutions. It's sick. One thing you said that really sticks out is the stealing of the child's heart. I've yet to meet a pastor that homeschools. Also where we are, the churches are very involved in the schools and they wear it like a badge of honor. It's good they're trying to reach kids. But it would great if they'd push homeschool.
