The M51 is about as crazy as any production Shermans ever got; however some Slavic country (of course I can't remember which one, maybe it was Czechoslovakia) did experiment with fitting the Russian 122mm gun from the IS-2 into the Sherman. I believe they had a few prototypes of these.
PhlyDaily the IDF had two upgraded Shermans the first was the M50, this was a Sherman upgraded with a French copy of the Panther 75mm L70. That is the same gun you find on the AMX-13 just no autoloader. The M51 is the one you are playing here. That is the same gun that is on the AMX-30 but with one meter taken off the gun tube to drop recoil down a bit. The other possibility is that the Israelis upgraded one last time a group of M50s in the 80s for Chile with a 60mm hyper velocity that was designed to kill T-62. There is also a Argentina Sherman Firefly rearmed with a similar 105mm to the M51. Finley the M50 and M51s were never called Super Shermans that is only M4A3E8s in IDF service.

Israel has multiple Sherman variations. There is also an M50 Sherman that has a long barreled, high velocity 75 mm gun, similar to the French M4A4 SA50 but with a different breech, variations with the ammunition, and the T23 turret, unless I’m mistaken. The Israelis also used the Sherman chassis as the base for multiple vehicles including but not limited to APC’s and self-propelled howitzers.

I keep facing this thing whilst playing 5.3 and 5.7 Russia and it’s a total pain. Long range sniping with most hits causing immediate kills or massive damage. My only moment of triumph was putting a shell through its front plate with a T-34 at just over 1650 yards
I don’t care what anyone says, I love my M4A3 105 Sherman. It’s not the best tank in the world, but it gets the job done. How does it go? “This is my tank. There are many like it but this one is mine.”
To answer to Steve questions yes. The M-60 Chilean Super Sherman it was a M-50 Sherman with a 60mm HVMS Gun and a new more powerfull American engine. Basically imagine one of those italian cars with darts on a sherman chasis.

The APFSDS round arrived in IDF hands in the exact same year they retired their M51's, 1977. They probably never fired it. But this gun will chamber it. Most of these M51s became 120mm and 160mm SP mortar carriers, but a few were handed over to the Lebanese Christians.
This tank is so fucking toxic. 400mm of pen at any range at 6.0 is game busting. It's like armor just doesn't exist anymore when you have a 6.0 that can kill a Maus or a J-tiger at any range. It's beyond ridiculous. They just added a vehicle to game which effectively removes 8-10 vehicles from the game, because they're useless now. This thing needs to go up to 7.7. I mean fuck, even the IKV91 is 7.0, though it should at least be 7.3. 400mm HEAT has absolutely no business being in the same game as H1 Tigers. These things dominate long range shooting maps.
There is also the M-50 Sherman. It has the high velocity 76mm gun. Still has the extra weight because they extended the back of the turret to make room for the recoil of the gun.
Talking about different Israeli Shermans is quiet interesting because all of the Israeli Shermans in one way or another were different from eachother, The M51 for instance had many different Sherman hulls, since there were so many after the war left and given to many countries, Many M51s and M50s were either M4A1s or A4s and as they progressed they received many upgrades over their service.

it shouldn’t go any higher than 6.3 because this thing is shit. everything about it is absolutely terrible besides the gun which has bad damage. it shouldn’t go to 7.7 because it would get clubbed by everything.
I also think there will be another M51 in the regular TT. This variant use the M4A3 hull, but the most common hull used was the M4A1 Large Hatch, hull, that gave more space for the ammunition.
We already have the other israeli sherman in the French tech tree, the M4A4 (SA50) as that would be the M50 super sherman. Israel also had a 155mm SPG mounted on a sherman chassis though obviously it does look quite a bit different then a regular sherman. But technically yes, a converted sherman to have a 155mm gun to use as an SPG. Which honestly I could imagine as the first "TD" for Israel.
Just a cool fact about the Israeli shermans: yes, they had a few other crazy variants as well, one of which is *technically* already in the game but also not really (the french M4A4 SA50). The M50 Sherman (the one that existed just before the M51 here) is basically the french M4A4 SA50, but with a few mish-mash of engines, HVSS suspension and just 50.cals and 30.cals welded onto the turret and a whole bunch of other bits and pieces added here and there. The M60 sherman (which I believe is an Argentinian upgraded variant of the M50), is basically just an M50 Sherman but with a 60mm High Velocity gun that fires APDS. Dunno too much on this tank but I feel like it'd belong around the same BR as the M51 in WT. Also if you're wondering why the 105 or the big boy 75 actually works in the Sherman it's because that massive bustle in the back is actually mostly solid so it can be used as a big fuggen counter weight for the 105 or 75. Edit: Holy shit this thing went through the T-34's driver hatch at 7:15
There's another Israeli postwar Sherman with a 60mm high-velocity gun, and also some SPG and rocket artillery variants that could perhaps make it in...
i think the main reason the first panther failed to kill you is he probably didn't recognize you or knew you were a new tank so he didn't know where to shoot, or maybe he thought you were a jumbo
Phly! Probably expect the Sherman M-60 modified by Chile, which was a 60mm high velocity cannon that shoots apfsds that pens a 120mm plate at 60° over 2km!!
Tbh I like the HEAT rounds on this thing. 400mm of pen and can punch straight through a tiger 2 Hull. Just aim for the right side and you knock the driver and gunner. Effectively disabling it
phly I think you forgot the italian sherman (m36e1 or something...) with the 90mm 305mm pen heat FS....it's actually better with more speed and acceleration, as well as a more effective heat round...maybe less muzzle velocity and pen but still seems better at 6.3...
Yeah it's very similar but it's different, just because the m36b1 is m36 with sherman chassi in fact the turret is open on top. I repeat, they are similar but different Ps: the m36a1 is at 5.7
Hey Phly.... just wondering.. have you ever figured out how many cannon rounds you have fired? (over the whole time you have played?)your long range gunnery is simply crazy.. hitting anything at that kind of range is really impressive.
Merkava to progress the entire tech tree M51 to completely rape German heavy tanks with severy undertiered HEAT slinger If you go with M51 be wary that its BR will most likely go up to about 6.7 after the hype around it goes down and sales with it.
not israeli, but argentina had a 105 french gunned sherman with a cummins diesel (called sherman repotenciado), chile did some mods back in the 60s/70s too. theirs had a 60mm hyper velocity gun. and i think egipt also had some weird one. or maybe it was a captured m51.
I'm pretty sure Argentina probably got those from the Israelis. And the 60mm high velocity gun modification for the Sherman was bought from Israel as well.
@@IronPhysik there’s no evidence of it fighting IS-3s, not saying it didn’t, but there was statements saying the M51 Isherman fought the early model T-72s but it didn’t say whether it did well or not
Israel did use other weird Sherman modifications. This tank uses the same gun used on the AMX-13-105, which is just a shorter version as the 105mm cannon found on the AMX-30. The HEAT round could barely called a normal HEAT, as it was designed to have similar characteristics as a HEAT-FS before HEAT-FS had proven itself. The other weird Israeli modification would be the M4A3 SA-50 that we already have in-game. It is designated as the M-50. Phly, if you want an answer to your question and want to play the other modification as quickly as you can, play the M4A3 SA-50 in the French tree. Because it's literally that tank. (Gaijin put that tank in the French tech tree because we need a filler at 4.7/5.0)
The average person playing this tank right now is so sweaty and over-salted, it's great. You blast him, he comes back with backups. You blast those, he comes back in his CAS plane, and then that is backed up. Always feels good yeeting golden whales.

fun the m51 is actually supposed to have a 0,50 cal. on top but it has a 0,30 cal. also i would love to see the m50 sherman which is just a regular 76 one but with heatfs.
Hey Phly, would you be open to doing a detailed guide for using rangefinder? How to set it up in the settings, use it most efficiently etc. ? Cuz I've gotten to the tier where I can use it but I'm a tad lost
nice video, i know im 2 years late but the m51 has a range finder which you could have used (im saying this as a israeli ground player... btw i got the m109 yesterday)
Yes Israel have sherman m-51 wich we hat now as premum but some off those Israel sold to Chile. These Shermans had already been owned, upgraded and operated by the Israelis, who then sold them to Chile (than those be renamed as M-60) in the early 1980s. Chile bought 65 of these tanks, who in turn, requested that they be modified once more. This modification included the replacement of the main gun with a 60 mm (2.3 in) High-Velocity main gun, and a new Detroit Diesel engine. pretty neat wehicle with fast reload and apfsds round and stab over all this should be tech tree version change my mind.
7.7 is way too high, due to what other tanks you have at that BR. But at 6.7 it would still be too strong. Probably 7.0 due to the platform, or 7.3. Even the Ikv was at 6.7 with heatfs, a laser range finder and I think better mobility. (Ikv should be 7.7)
lmao then it would be the same BR as the AMX-30 which has the same gun, more armour, faster, better survivabilty the furthest this thing will go is 6.7 but i expect it'll go to 6.3.anymore than 6.7 than this thing is completely obsolete
Two different things. You find out the range with range finding, and manually zero the gun. You can find both in controls. Some late tanks zero the gun automatically with the ranging.

Edit: Holy shit this thing went through the T-34's driver hatch at 7:15
M-60 is a Chilean tank, chilean here :D
wish it makes it to the game along the 60mm Chaffee
@@AllMightyKingBowser Cheers for correcting me man
There's another Israeli postwar Sherman with a 60mm high-velocity gun, and also some SPG and rocket artillery variants that could perhaps make it in...
Israel didn't use the M-50/60. They were only used by the Chilean army, who took surplus M-50s and gave them the HVMS.
Giving this a watch before trying the M-51 for the first time. Great video.
Can someone explain what he do in 0:09? How to set up the Range
I hope they release a non premium version. And the Israeli T54 with a 105 mm slapped in it
I want to see the last Sherman model put in service. I think it had a 60mm gun.
i think the main reason the first panther failed to kill you is he probably didn't recognize you or knew you were a new tank so he didn't know where to shoot, or maybe he thought you were a jumbo
I watched several minutes of this at .25 speed, you sound baked and I'm here for it.
Phly! Probably expect the Sherman M-60 modified by Chile, which was a 60mm high velocity cannon that shoots apfsds that pens a 120mm plate at 60° over 2km!!
It was never called M60, the Chilean kept the M50 denomination
@@Theo2lag Sure, it’s just a nickname
There is a Yugoslav Sherman with 122mm gun called SO 122, I think they should add it as well, it would be really interesting.
NO PLEASE NO
More cancerous 5.0 tank?
PLEASE HELP, so in ground RB my vehicles want to go into reverse gear as soon as I let off the throttle. Why is this?!?!? Bug??
Day 23:
Phly, play the Panther F in Combo with the Amerikabomber and show the allies how real War Thunder Suffering feels
Phly, any way you could take a screenshot of your graphics settings page? I’m curious about your adjustments. Thanks.
Odd: "this tank is a driving can" and does great
Phly: "This thing is an absolute monster!" And does grate
:D
Phly there's another variant of the Sherman, that being the M60 Sherman from Chile. Would love to see it in game.
It was never called M60, the Chilean kept the appelation M50.
Tbh I like the HEAT rounds on this thing. 400mm of pen and can punch straight through a tiger 2 Hull. Just aim for the right side and you knock the driver and gunner. Effectively disabling it
yeah 400mm of penetration and instant rangefinder at 6.0. seems legit.
Another great video ! Coincidentally, last night I watched part 1 of The Tank Encyclopedia's video on the M-51.
phly I think you forgot the italian sherman (m36e1 or something...) with the 90mm 305mm pen heat FS....it's actually better with more speed and acceleration, as well as a more effective heat round...maybe less muzzle velocity and pen but still seems better at 6.3...
Yeah it's very similar but it's different, just because the m36b1 is m36 with sherman chassi in fact the turret is open on top. I repeat, they are similar but different
Ps: the m36a1 is at 5.7
The m36b1 is 5.7. Also the french HEAT performs just like HEATFS.
@@emaacqua2163 yeah. the m36b1 is just straight up better.
nice that unlike oddbawz, you understand this tank is op. least some youtubers are sane
Hey Phly.... just wondering.. have you ever figured out how many cannon rounds you have fired? (over the whole time you have played?)your long range gunnery is simply crazy.. hitting anything at that kind of range is really impressive.
thats funny because Vergis is a MTFCKR unkillable TANK lol
still debating M51 or the Merkava (hope a vid is coming soon on that too)
decisions decisions
I would go for the merkava. Not that big a difference in price, iirc it's very strong. Also allows you to grind the entire tree.
Merkava to progress the entire tech tree
M51 to completely rape German heavy tanks with severy undertiered HEAT slinger
If you go with M51 be wary that its BR will most likely go up to about 6.7 after the hype around it goes down and sales with it.
not israeli, but argentina had a 105 french gunned sherman with a cummins diesel (called sherman repotenciado), chile did some mods back in the 60s/70s too. theirs had a 60mm hyper velocity gun. and i think egipt also had some weird one. or maybe it was a captured m51.
Iirc those Argentine Shermans were bought off the Israelis. The Cummins diesel was a common modification they did
I'm pretty sure Argentina probably got those from the Israelis. And the 60mm high velocity gun modification for the Sherman was bought from Israel as well.
Egipt
As I can remenber : France sell amx 13 and m4 with 105 to Israel and M4 with amx 13 turret to Egypt
@@asiftalpur3758 sorry for the mistake. spanish speaker writing in english. in spanish its "egipto".
yeah. nothing like using a 1970's gun to fight ww2 tanks. Gajin logic.
Daily Distracted with the barrel sees a deer “oh heya. Raindeer”
its a super fun sherman because its not meant to technically fight germans its built to fight T-62s and T-72s
it was mainly meant to fight IS-3, T-34 and T-54
it does not have the pen to kill T-72
@@IronPhysik there’s no evidence of it fighting IS-3s, not saying it didn’t, but there was statements saying the M51 Isherman fought the early model T-72s but it didn’t say whether it did well or not
@@AirwolfGames Meant =/= did
and no... by the time the Syrians / egyptians / jordanians got T-72s the M51 was LONG out of service
(Gaijin put that tank in the French tech tree because we need a filler at 4.7/5.0)
Not Israel but Yugoslavia had the best Sherman. With the best engine and a 122mm gun
The average person playing this tank right now is so sweaty and over-salted, it's great. You blast him, he comes back with backups. You blast those, he comes back in his CAS plane, and then that is backed up. Always feels good yeeting golden whales.
There were M-51 Super Shermans sold to Chile by Israel and they equipped the shermans with the High velocity 60mm gun, like on the AUBL
puta que somos weones
Nitpick, it where M-50, not M-51
and the gun was not the only upgrade, they also got a better engine
@@IronPhysik thanks for the correction and addition 😂
Phly: If you take less ammo, you expect to get hit and die. So, if you take full ammo, you expect to survive, and thus survive!
Me, an Intellectual: You see Komrade, if you take less ammo, you hit enemy more, because you are too afraid of wasting your little ammo))))
I just want to know how he keeps the barrel so stable. When I'm driving mine it seems like I bounce between looking at the ground and the sky.
fun the m51 is actually supposed to have a 0,50 cal. on top but it has a 0,30 cal. also i would love to see the m50 sherman which is just a regular 76 one but with heatfs.
When other nations are getting your tanks before you:
*Sad french noises*
The M-51 shermans were regular shermans which received L57 75 mm guns purchased from Frenchs and which were coming from the AMX-13/75.
that was the M-50
M-51 had a 105mm
Hey Phly, would you be open to doing a detailed guide for using rangefinder? How to set it up in the settings, use it most efficiently etc. ? Cuz I've gotten to the tier where I can use it but I'm a tad lost
nice video, i know im 2 years late but the m51 has a range finder which you could have used (im saying this as a israeli ground player... btw i got the m109 yesterday)
"udder monster" just imagining cow's udder being a monster
US: You get a Sherman, and you get a Sherman. Everybody gets a Sherman!
There is also the Sherman M50: with AMX-13's 75mm cannon
I remember people wanting this back in the day
Crazy Sherman variant information. The Israelis sold some of their old Shermans to the Chileans, who put the gun from the premium AUBL/74 HVG in them.
First popular video game ever to feature Hebrew (the tank crew voices) :))))) so surreal...
I got my first nuke with this M-51 and the Israeli Spitfire for CAS. Gotta love it
Oddbawz: this thank is bad
Phly: this thing is a monster, buy it
its funny, because Odd got a nuke with his M-51, like... if it is so bad.. how did you get a nuke???
Hi Phly just to let you know if you click on the back round crew while in the hanger you throw snow balls at them
Yes Israel have sherman m-51 wich we hat now as premum but some off those Israel sold to Chile.
Tbh this was one of the vehicles I was excited to see in the tree, just not as a premium
there is a second variant of that tank using the M4A1 hull, that variant was also alot more common than the one based on the M4A3 that we have.
I have waited this gigasherman for too long. Thanks Phly =))
Day 102:
Hey Phly! Please play the Tiger1P (Pz. Bef. Wg. VI (P) ) again :)
You can also combo it with the Fw 190 F-8, or the Do 335 B-2
How do you set your scope? Like to 1700m then back to normal
Popping off Tigers like they were fish in a barrel! :)
This tank at 6.0 is just ridiculous, I don't care about any other stat. That thing should move straight up to 7.7 at least
7.7 is way too high, due to what other tanks you have at that BR. But at 6.7 it would still be too strong. Probably 7.0 due to the platform, or 7.3. Even the Ikv was at 6.7 with heatfs, a laser range finder and I think better mobility. (Ikv should be 7.7)
lmao then it would be the same BR as the AMX-30 which has the same gun, more armour, faster, better survivabilty
the furthest this thing will go is 6.7 but i expect it'll go to 6.3.anymore than 6.7 than this thing is completely obsolete
Its literaly worse in every meaningful way than the m36b1.
@@Acerrzzz i'd say 7.3 then, it need a br wall between it and 6.3 heavies; currently it's like if gaijin put a Tiger 2H at 4.3
How do you do that thing where it moves your barrel up and says the distance you would be shooting for
Two different things. You find out the range with range finding, and manually zero the gun. You can find both in controls. Some late tanks zero the gun automatically with the ranging.
Its called zeroing. Its something done for any balistic weapon.
@@Acerrzzz what's it name under in the settings?? I'm sorry I've just never seen this before
Hey PhlyDaily. I have a question about War Thunder of the M-51 Super Sherman? Will the tank crews in the M-51 Super Sherman needed to be upgrade in the training? After purchasing the M-51 Super Sherman.
I do remember that Israel has a Sherman modification with high velocity 75mm sold to some south American country in the 1980's
dident they also have an sherman with a long 50 or 60mm gun ? firing ADPS-FS ? Sherman M50 HVG something ?
I hope they never change this thing it’s amazing
It's halariois that the 76 jumbo is 6.3 but this 105 jumbo is 6.0
This is not a jumbo. This is a regular m4a3 the only change is the gun. No jumbo to be found here.
@@chadjustice8560 ok so a 105n m4a3 is better then easy 8 when it was at 5.7
