Edna marries Texan Sam Gladney, operator of a wheat mill. Edna discovers by chance how the law treats children who are without parents and decides to do something about it. She opens a home for foundlings and orphans and begins to place children in good homes, despite the opposition of "conservative" citizens, who would condemn illegitimate children for being born out of wedlock. Eventually Edna leads a fight in the Texas legislature to remove the stigma of illegitimacy from birth records in that state, while continuing to be an advocate for homeless children.

This was my dads favourite film. I think because he watched it as a little boy in the early 1940’s, and he was an orphan, so I think it
Was a reflection of his own life.

Greer Garson was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar back in 1941 for her performance as "Edna" in this film, while "Blossoms in the dirt" was nominated for Best Picture! The Winner of Best Picture that year was yet another film that this film's other co-star Walter Pidgeon starred in titled, "How green was my valley"...This was the first time Greer appeared in a technicolor film, and it was the first of 9 films that Walter & Greer would star in together! Absolutely wonderful movie, and well deserving of the nominations it received!🎥🎬📼🎥🎬

This lady Edna bought my great great grandmothers house …. The house that’s depicted in the movie that she ran the orphanage from. It still stands and now a national landmark.

I watched this as a little girl with my mum. Mum is gone and I'm 48 now and sadden that try as I may I cannot get my hands on this wonderful film. I live in Sydney Australia and if anyone can help me obtain it I would be most happy .thanks xoxox

Hi Molly, have you tried buying it on Amazon.com or Amazon.uk even Australia's Ebay I have this Movie on VHS but I'm sure it's available on DVD or even Blu ray now If you buy it from the United States you will need a multi region/zone DVD Player. I just checked Ebay and they have one available in Australia which is region/zone free (All)(which should play on any DVD Player)

To Molly mayer I love this film too the ending always make me cry. The film is avadible on dvd you should be able to buy it on Amazon or ebay. Hope this has been helpful. Reguards from michael from Yorkshire and proud of it.

I just got it at Dollar General for $6.95. It came with a Christmas collection. So 3 other movies came with it.
